Kamala Harris Supports ‘Some Type of’ Slavery Reparations

Justin Caruso 11 Feb 2019 Breitbart News

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) said in an interview Monday she supports “some type of” reparations to black Americans for slavery. . . .

. . . Charlamagne asked again, “So you are for some type of reparations?”

“Yes I am, yes I am,” Harris responded.

Harris announced her 2020 campaign in January, kicking off the race by saying, “The American people deserve to have someone who is going to fight for them, who is going to see them, who will hear them, who will care about them and put them in front of self-interest.”

Last week, she expressed support for the socialist Green New Deal introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

To this I would say three things.

1 - I wonder how hard she is willing to “fight” on behalf of pre-born black Americans?

2 - This is a “collective guilt” paradigm she is embracing and is evil (at least in my opinion).

3 - This “collective guilt” makes a person
guilty based upon the color of their skin.
In other words it is institutionalized RACISM.

(Edited from two points to three points based upon Ridgerunner’s great point here).

.

Harris is very “mixed up” in her thinking.

Neither Harris nor Obama can claim US slave ancestry. Harris’ father came from Jamaica while Obama’s father came from Kenya. Kinda rich that they both claimed to speak for the blacks who did descend from slaves in the US.

The vast majority of us have no slave owners in our family trees. But we have “collective” guilt. I don’t think so. I’m not accepting responsibility for something that happened before my direct ancestors came here. Heck, I think those who can trace their American ancestry much further back should not accept responsibility either. This is not going to go over well.

I am all for former slave holders paying reparations former slaves.
On the other hand, since virtually all slavery holders were Democrats, that’s where Harris should look.

There was a gradual transition of the Democratic Party during FDR’s leadership whereas it was the Dems that was the more conservative party prior to the 1930’s but gradually became the more liberal party afterward, which is why most “Southern Democrats” prior to the 1960’s became overwhelmingly Pubs today, especially since the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960’s were passed during LBJ’s tenure as president that he lamented would lose the South. [how’s that for a run-on sentence?]

It’s a fundamentally racist position. I think we know who virtually all of the slave owners were. They were white people. So, notwithstanding that most white peoples’ ancestors never owned a slave, whites are to pay the reparations because of their race, and only because of their race.

The South went Republican when the Democrats went soft on Soviet Communism.

False, so maybe google “Southern Democrats” on this, and even the Wiki piece on them covers it quite well. Neither party went “soft” on the Soviets, but Trump certainly seems to love former KGB agent Putin. Is he "soft’, iyo?

Oh? What has he done for Putin? Did he stand aside while Putin took over Crimea and eastern Ukraine? No. That was his predecessor. Did he sell Putin 20% of American uranium? Well, no. Did he encourage petroleum production, thus greatly reducing Putin’s main income source? Yes, he did do that.

False, the South went Democrat as late as 1976. It was only Jimmy Carter’s weak and inept foreign policy towards our enemies that impelled a change. Southerners are hawks by nature. They would hardly stand behind the Neville Chamberlain of the Cold War.

The 1980’s called though, they want your ideas on Russia back as out of date and out of touch with the current reality.

If one excuses all that Putin has done over the last decade in order to defend Trump’s bromance of him, that’s really quite sad. His removing of the sanctions alone on Russia is appalling.

I pointed out the fact that it was a “gradual” process, especially since old habits tend to die hard.

Again, one can check it out for themselves even by just using Wikipedia, and all they have to do is to type in “Southern Democrats” and then scroll-down to where it talks about the Civil Rights Acts under LBJ-- it’s all there in plain old black & white.

Yes, it absolutely was, but if one only gets their “news” from Fox, …

Pretty convenient that they so definitively died when Jimmy Carter’s weakness was manifest to all.

Literally none of my ancestors owned slaves or even participated in Jim Crow, etc. (They lived in Canada) Yet my family would still have to pay for something someone else’s ancestors did just because we look like them.

It would be very hard to track down everyone who had slave ancestry and slave owner ancestry and probably expensive too. And what if you have a person who is mixed race?

It would be better to spend the money on improving schools in poorer areas, which would actually help African Americans.

They would either have to search each white person’s family tree back several generations (which would be incredibly time staking and expensive) or they would just have all white people pay reparations.

Either way its not a good idea-there are far better uses for the money as I said before.

Trump didn’t give up Crimea, Trump didn’t see the invasion of Eastern Ukraine. This is way off topic.

Also, maybe we should trace back to who sold those people into slavery and perhaps, who had the ships.

Slavs is derived I’m told from the word “slave”, perhaps they deserve some reparation too.

One can talk about a so-called Southern Strategy all they want and the history on that btw, is not even foolproof but when it comes down to oppression, lynchings, voting rights, segregation, it’s pretty clear who was mainly responsible for that and that, can not be pawned off to others.
