False, the South went Democrat as late as 1976. It was only Jimmy Carter’s weak and inept foreign policy towards our enemies that impelled a change. Southerners are hawks by nature. They would hardly stand behind the Neville Chamberlain of the Cold War.

The 1980’s called though, they want your ideas on Russia back as out of date and out of touch with the current reality.

Also, I’ve seen where it has been asserted, Georgia only went Republican in the 2000s, Louisiana has never gone truly Republican. I can see that these points can be debated but let’s not forget, other talking points include lower taxes and smaller government. Honestly, the Republicans have been limited in what they have done for smaller government but I don’t think one can deny the Southern streak of independence (maybe more so in the past) of wanting lesser government. I mean, that’s kind of what the South has been about at times. I’m not lauding it or being critical of it and I’d add in, a lot of rural communities North, South, West, East feel that way.

There was a gradual transition of the Democratic Party during FDR’s leadership whereas it was the Dems that was the more conservative party prior to the 1930’s but gradually became the more liberal party afterward, which is why most “Southern Democrats” prior to the 1960’s became overwhelmingly Pubs today, especially since the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960’s were passed during LBJ’s tenure as president that he lamented would lose the South. [how’s that for a run-on sentence?]

This revisionism has be debunked numerous times. Of the Dixiecrats, only one became a Republican. All of the rest remained loyal Democrats.
Blacks gravitated to the Democrats, not because of a change in racist attitudes among Democrats, but because of perceived economic advantages.
Southern whites did not gravitate to Republicans because of race, but because of the leftward shift of the Democrats. In fact, most of that shift happened after the Republican led assault on Jim Crow and segregation.

It’s a fundamentally racist position. I think we know who virtually all of the slave owners were. They were white people. So, notwithstanding that most white peoples’ ancestors never owned a slave, whites are to pay the reparations …

It was their race that enabled them to profit from the loss suffered by the slaves. It is a mistake to think that only direct descendants of slave-holders benefited from this injustice. All whites benefited. Since whites as a class benefited more than they were morally entitled, some sort of reparations are not unreasonable.
