The GIRM calls for the Conference of Bishops to decide on the gesture for the sign of peace and also says that it is only to be shared with those who are near and in a sober manner. Guess some people interpret sober/near to mean reaching across three pew or leaving the pew to go shake hands with the person 5 rows back.
As for how the sign of peace is shared, why have our two conferences of bishops NOT set that? Is it because they know it won’t be followed?
