Your response that Athens doesn’t want its masterpieces is too absurd to even respond to. These are all Roman copies of the originals which are lost to antiquity. : Aphrodite c. 300 BCE by Praxiteles. It presently resides in the Museo Pio Clementino, in the Vatican collection. It is believed to be the most exact replica known. Apollo late 4th-1st Cent. BCE. Since they are pagan gods it seems strange that the Vatican would have them. I’m sorry you missed them on your visit. The Vatican has a glorious online museum. You might try looking there. They have a surprising amount of Egyptian art as well. Did you see any of that?

Where is this all leading to Spirit Meadow, as we all know that many Countries own things which do not belong to them (look at the Royal British Museum for starters)?

It was going nowhere Josie, beyond a playful poke in the ribs at your remarks about the Mona Lisa. Surely you are right, every country has antiquities belonging to other lands, and they all should return them to their country of origin. Actually the Vatican Greek pagan statuary is roman in origin though they remain the only copies of the greek originals and their pagan representation is a bit amusing wouldn’t you say? They are fully entitled I would agree to keep them as Roman antiquities.

As usual OHCA picks a fight because he/she seems always to find anything offensive if said by a NonRC, and half the time she tees off on other Roman Catholics. The ferocity makes me try to avoid speaking directly to him/her, but he/she continues to interject her anger at me in posts not directed to him/her.

I guess the Vatican appreciates art no matter what its origins. In a way I kinda like that, because they can see beauty in all things.

The science used to date the clothe has shown that it could be from Jesus’s time.

A blood sample is AB just like the blood from a still existing Eucharisitc miracle where the Eucharist took on all the accidents of Jesus. flesh from the 7th century.

It seems the shroud is very likely from Jesus’ time and quite possibly the same shroud used to cover Jesus.

A little humility wouldn’t hurt you, OTCA. It is a Christian virtue. And since when were you elevated to the chair of Judgment?

Just curious - are you EVER wrong? I know I can be - why can’t you admit it?
