Further, I believe that Moslems, at least, throughout the world, actually TEACH Arabic as a second language to be used in prayer, in order to actually ACCESS their religion, because of positive prohibitions against the translation of the Koran, etc. (I admit, I’m not that up on Islam). I think that’s bizarre: in order to practice your faith in God, you have to know a certain language?
hey my son who is in a Catholic High School learns Latin…mandatory for graduation…nothing wrong with it…🙂

I don’t think anyone could construe from my post that there would BE anything wrong with that. Your son’s situation is not generally the case, however.

Need I say more…which looks more reverant and respectful to you? Which looks for God Fearing?
Sonny:

The pictures you post ARE extremes, are they not? I mean, here in this city, the most radical “liberal” parish is known by simply having not having kneelers or any time at all scheduled for confession, NOT for having clown masses, or magician masses, etc. These are specific (and in the thousands of masses offered every day, isolated and relatively small in number) abuses and they are NOT native (ontologically inherent) to the Novus Ordo Mass, any more than a “mumbled” Mass or a sped-through Mass is ontologically inherent to the Tridentine. If you had posted a picture of a Mass typically celebrated in most NO parishes and NOT these extremes, I would have stated with conviction that neither was more reverent, respectful, or God-fearing than the other (I would have stated with equal conviction that I’d take the properly celebrated NO Mass any day of the week, because it would be in the vernacular and because I believe it possesses more of a noble *simplicity, *ie, LESS can be MORE, esp. with the birettas and the superflous gestures like the lifting of the chasuble at the Elevation, a holdover from when chasubles were very heavy/gem encrusted, etc., and the priest really needed help, but now institutionalized into a gesture with little practical meaning).

It’s happening more and more!
And you know my opinion, dear friend, learning Latin helps us know the Roots of English.

And you know my opinion, dear friend, learning Latin helps us know the Roots of English. My point remains, if we’re going to cite Moslems as maintaining a sacral language: they must, in order to access their religion, to participate. I don’t think we need to do so. That isn’t to say that Latin isn’t important (again and again, I’ve said it’s as important as Greek or Hebrew), but we don’t have to understand it in order to pray and worship God.

I’m all for better education all the way around. I oppose saying that we have to have Latin for most of the Mass

That reminds me, I have to get my Minimus the Mouse text book out from behind the girls bed. Dad was reading it to them before the Christmas break.

hey if it is good enough and allowable for the Vatican to use that word…why cant we:confused:
Because some people are so sick of hearing it that they will research your posts to find it!!!

:rotfl:

Oh…I never heard of that…is it geared towards younger kiddies?
Do tell…where I can find out more info about it…if it is geared towards younger kiddies perhaps I can start with my youngest…that is inbetween the german and “proper” english he is learning:)

How about this one…

You know my biggest problem is the idea of having to touch your neighbor’s hand instead of touching his soul.
I regard this as a minor thing, though I do not hold hands myself, and frankly NOT that big a deal. My major objection to this ONLY stems from people being forced to do so when the Church doesn’t demand it. I don’t even consider it a distraction. Why? Because my eyes are closed at this point in the Mass and I can’t see anyone holding hands. If the Church wants to come down on this, then She can. People should obey. BUT AGAIN, even this is NOT ontologically inherent in the Pauline Mass itself (ie, not OF THE NATURE of the Pauline Rite).

I agree with Most. (although I think the TLM should stop being “forbidden fruit”)
But some can’t hurt.

That’s what both of us want.

it really is not that hard to learn…come on give it a try you might like it;) 😃
I teach second language learners exclusively. I believe I know what’s involved in learning a language.
