The Holy Father himself said we need a smaller but more orthodox Church…
Are you sure he said this? Was it before he became Pope or afterward? I did a bit of Googling and am having trouble tracking down that quote. Would happen to know when or where he said it?

Yes I know the Holy Father said something along those lines. Jesus on the other hand I just myself can’t help but wonder whether He wants a smaller Church of saints, closed off to sinners,
We dont claim to be saints; we know were sinners!
The only sinners to whom the Church is “closed off” (your words) are the ones who persist in their sinfulness, with no desire to change.
Fr H Kung, Sr J Chittister and Fr Fox (Once a priest: always a priest.) have had decades to ponder their relationship with the Church! (i don`t know anything about the other scheduled speakers.)
or if He would not turn away anyone who comes to Him. In Jn 6:37 I believe He said something about the latter.
By turning their backs on the Church, they`ve turned their backs on Jesus: “He who rejects you rejects Me…”.
And no. “Time and talents” I meant as words for the work they do in parishes, servng in various roles, and in the good work they do in serving the poor, leading clothing and food drives, running soup kitchens and such in those parishes that have them. So you lose those talents along with the financial support they give to aid the Church in her various works of charity. But if the Church thinks less people can make up the slack, and that Jesus would approve, then I guess the Church can go for it and give it a try. And I guess the Church can see whether or not then, if or how much they are missed.
God bless you and peace.
First and formost, the Church exists to save souls. Helping the poor, social justice activism etc. are admirable; after all, theyre part of the corporal works of mercy. But, theyre secondary, and flow from the primary reason.

The Catholic Church is not a (secular) society of social workers! Mother Teresa (among countless others) did an almost unbelieveable amount of charity work; and at the same time, she remained totally faithful to the Churchs teachings on Faith and Morals. Why cant these spiritual termites be the same?

The Church is better off without these subversives, along with their tainted money. (Mother Angelica had great Faith in the money area!)
If any of them repent, and wish to return, the Church will receive them with open arms, just like the Prodigal Son`s father…and just like the rest of us who fall into the state of mortal sin, and then repent. Our Lord is waiting to embrace the repentant sinner!

The Church should have trademarked the word “Catholic” so that groups like the “American Catholic Council” couldn’t mislead people that they represent a Catholic viewpoint.

Doing so would cut down on much confusion. Unfortunately, at least in the US, the word is already in use by many organizations (including religious denominations) other than the Catholic Church which is led by the Holy See.

 See here’s what I have difficulty with. Pax et Bonum says “let them go”. You say the Chuirch is “better off” without them…

Yet you say “we know we’re sinners! The only sinners to whom the Church is “closed off” (your words) are the ones who persist in their sinfulness.” (Btw I used the words “closed off” simply because it appears to me it is the desire that they be outside in their current state.)

But anyway that aside, the difficulty I have is I am presuming since “we’re all sinners” none of us have conquered sin and therefore we sin, regardless of any desire we might have to change and to sin to no more. Yet sin still persists in our lives. If the most faithful, conservative, orthodox, whatever term you’d like to use, Catholic, did not also sin, then there would be no need for them to approach the Sacrament of Reconcilliation any longer. They would be sinless. But even those of you who desire the liberals to be out, still sin after you have repented. Which you acknowledged when you said, “we know we’re sinners!”

Peace.

You clearly don’t understand the difference between true repentance for sin and someone with an ax to grind.

The Archdiocese of Detroit had it’s Priestly Ordinations today at the Cathedral. Some attendees at this conference were outside with pro-women’s ‘ordination’ signs.

My son’s comment was 'They are all so old"

Theirs is not the Church of the future, theirs is an imaginary church that they conjured up in the 70’s and their vision is dying with them.

Conservative and liberal are political terms. Not terms that apply to church or religion. The appropriate terms are 'Faithful Catholics" and " Unfaithful Catholics" . I was told this by a speaker at the Call To Holiness Conference today.
I was also told that the American Catholic Council conference had maybe about 1500 attendees. That is from 30 groups of dissenting Catholics from the US & abroad. No where near the number I read projected of 10,000.
This group promoting diversity, by it’s own demographic study, is 95% white and about 95% over the age of 45.
The conclusion by this person was that this group is dying out and going no where.
IMO - they should join a church that agrees with their philosophy rather trying to change 2000 years of doctrine. …or start their own church…it’s been done before.
You should read their constitution on their website…“teaching should be based on individual spiritual experiences rather than any doctrine” and by the laity! How they would ever decide this is beyond me.
If they aren’t heretics, they are the closest thing to it!

I clearly understand I am not going to judge another’s repentance. Good luck in your smaller and younger church. And blessings along your journeys. Peace.

True blessings and peace along yours as well.

In John 6, Christ laid out the theology of the Eucharist. Many objected, did not understand and therefore walked away. Christ did not change the theology to accomodate them, rather, He let them go.

The Church cannot change the theology of nature of the priesthood regarding women, or gay marriage. If there are those who obstinatly refuse to accept the Church’s teaching on those subjects, the Chuch can do little less than to follow the example of Christ and let them go.

Yes, the Church is not here to accomodate us or the world, but to gently lead us to the fullness of life as Christ promised. We are completely free to accept or reject the message. I, too, see signs of an orthodox renewal in the young, newly ordained seminarians - the contrast between them and the older clergy is sometimes quite evident as they are attempting to bring back devotionals designed to instill faith and the content of their homilies will often contain elements of a catechism lesson. I’ve even heard them mention sin! 👍

Just what we need in this age of ignorance of the faith.

You obviously don`t understand!

We all sin (not necessarily mortally) because were weak. We repent. We admit weve sinned.

For decades, the likes of Fr H Kung and Sr J Chittister have been PUBLICLY rejecting at least some of the Churchs ***INFALLIBLE*** teachings on Faith and Morals. Theyre causing confusion, division and scandal (Our Lord said something about millstones: Matt 28:6,7…)! Theyve had plenty of time to reconsider their stand; but they insist on continuing to ***PUBLICLY*** defy the divinely instituted Church. ***They have no desire to change***; and theyre leading others along the same path.
They haven`t repented of their very ***PUBLIC ***acts of defiance, so:
What repentance are you talking about?

i said in that earlier post (#22) that if any of them repent, the Church will welcome them back with open arms…

The Parable of the wheat and the tares (Matt13:37-39) could be applied to these folks…

We all need to continue to ask for St. Michael’s intercession as well as that of our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph for unity and peace in our Church. I have attached a Chaplet that I pray from time to time as a devotion to St. Michael. I modified it from the original Chaplet of St. Michael to make it speak to me and hopefully God, more effectively.

If anyone is interested in using it or joining me, they are welcome.

Peace of Christ,

Jason

You are also free to modify it per your own needs as you like. I found the original freely available online and while I did like it a great deal, I wanted to make it more suited to how I pray and think.

God Bless!

I’m pretty sure he said it after he became Pope.I know I read it in several different sources but I’m sorry it’s been a few years and I cannot remember.

They have received innumerable warnings. They refuse to submit to the teaching authority of the Magisterium. They cause scandal and confuse Catholics who have had poor catechization. They’ve already left spiritually they should leave physically.

The Church is a hospital for sinners of whom I AM THE BIGGEST PATIENT BUT i WANT TO GET WELL AND COOPERATE WITH MY TREATMENT PART OF WHICH IS THE PRESCRIPTIONS FOR CONFESSION,REPENTANCE,REPARATION AND OBEDIENCE.These patients want to become the doctors, and reject their regimen of treatment.

There is NO repentance to NOT JUDGE.They can he part of orthodox Catholicism simply by submitting to the teaching authority of the Magisterium, until then they are unfaithful heterodox if not heretical Catholics.God gave them Free Will but did not give them authority within the Church.Instead of being grateful sheep they are wolves in sheeps clothing, seeking to change the Church in the image they see staring back at them in their bathroom mirrors.Old hippies with sixties rebelliousness who will be dead soon.Pray for their disobedient souls.
