oh wow! My friend thinks Jack will be the new Jacob! Wouldn’t that be Epic if Jack became Jacob and Sawyer because MIB? haha
It would be very fitting! Especially since Jack has become the man of faith instead of the man of science.
Ok my fellow lost fanatics, heres my crackpot theory!
all of our losties who corresponded to the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 are all destined to take Jacob’s place together as a team. Throughout the series these numbers and only these numbers appear as a group, and i think its highly significant. This is why it was so important that sayid live and that all of the “candidates” survived, that is why dogan and lennon are so adamant about kate getting sawyer back safely. obviously the only candidate who corresponded to the numbers who is now deceased is john locke. But jacob has a bit of an insurance policy…i believe alternate timeline john locke will be the substitute for on island dead locke. The title of the episode had more significance than locke being a sub teacher.
how about that
I think the title was referring to MIB attempting to recruit Sawyer as his substitute. But you could be right. Somehow in the end, I think the realities will merge in some fashion. After all, dead Juliet told Miles that, “It worked”. I think she was referring to the incident creating the alternate timeline and preventing Oceanic 815 from crashing. Somehow, this will be relevant to those in the non-815 crash reality.

Interestingly, I don’t think Kate was given one of the “numbers” on the cave wall and Jin may not have had a number either (since the cave wall listed Kwon which could refer to either Jin or Sun or both). Also note that the Others at the Temple were very concerned about Jack staying and getting Sawyer to return. They did not seem concerned about letting Kate and Jin loose to hunt them down. I think the Others know that Kate and Jin are not as important as Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, Sun, Locke, and Sayid (all who had numbers). I thought it was odd that Kate had no number.

I don’t think Jacob is supposed to be God. And I don’t think MIB is satan. Jacob and Esau are equal, whereas God and Satan are not. It’s more of a ying and yang thing, good vs evil.

I don’t think Kate was given a number since she was bad in real life as in off the island. The Others kept talking about some sort of list and that they had to take the people on their list to the camp. Locke was on the list but I don’t remember Kate ever being on it.

AWESOME!!!

Yeah, I find that interesting about Kate as well. As far as “Kwon”, I lean towards it being Jin because wasn’t Sun’s original plan to ditch Jin at the airport?

I’m enjoying the ride!! 😃

just 3 more hours until tonight’s episode entitled “lighthouse” =D im so excited!!! as i am every week 😛

Interesting episode last night. I really liked Hurley’s adventure with Jack to the lighthouse. He was hilarious the whole way. “Good times dude” 😃

It sure looks like the two realities are becoming entangled and slowly merging. Jack noticed he had a scar from a removed appendix in the alternate reality that he couldn’t really remember. His mother seemed to remember it, but it still caught Jack by surprise. In the original reality, Jack’s appendix was removed by Juliet while on the island.

Claire sure has turned into Rosseau. It looks like she and Jin are going to somehow let Smokey into the temple to wreck havoc on the Others. I have a feeling that Miles isn’t going to live much longer, and that Sayid will soon join fake Locke’s dark team. It looks like the battle lines are almost drawn. My prediction for the candidate teams: Esau/fake Locke, Sawyer, Sayid vs. Jacob, Jack, Hurley, Jin and Sun. Kate is going to be the wild card who will have to choose between running or finally standing her ground.

That’s right! I knew there was some significance to the whole appendectomy scar and Jack not remembering. I forgot that he had it removed while on the island.

Yes, the battle lines are being drawn!

is anyone else loving the Jacob Hurley duo? i find it pretty hilarious. the comic relief on one end and the all knowing island master on the other 😛

Anyways…I really liked last nights episode, particularly the lighthouse scene, my bet is that 108 is Desmond

A conglomeration of the numbers on the lighthouse gear/wheel:

#20 - Rousseau - crossed out
#32 - Rutherford (Shannon) - crossed out
#51 - Austen - NOT CROSSED OUT - interesting…
#58 - Burke - crossed out
#101 - Faraday - crossed out
#104 - Lewis (Charlotte) - crossed out
#106 - Radzinsky - crossed out
#108 - Wallace - crossed out
#109 - Friendly (Tom) - crossed out
#117 - Linus - crossed out
#124 - Dawson - crossed out
#313 - Littleton - crossed out

Which makes me wonder why Jacob would have TWO places where he has the names written?

Did anyone else see a church steeple at first in the lighthouse windows, before Jack turned it to his house, or did I imagine that?

Does anyone here ever frequent Lostpedia, the Lost wiki? They have an extensive list of all the Candidates from both the cave wall and the Lighthouse wheel:

lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Candidates#Complete_list_of__candidates

There are over 100 names listed!!! I am thankful to all those Lost fans with HD TVs and an abundance of time on their hand for providing a list I could never come up with on my own. 🙂

To paraphrase Pope Paul VI: It is as if by some mysterious, no not mysterious, the smoke of “Locke” has entered the temple.

Sayid missed the opportunity. “Locke” did say a few words before the blade was thrust.

Now the battle for souls has begun.

Biblical allusions all over the place.

Yess im loving this Biblical allusions!

here are some biblical allusions that jumped out at me…

Flocke tempting sayid telling him he could have whatever he wanted was very reminiscent of Jesus and the devil in the desert.

Flocke leading the “Freed” others out of the temple and off the island was very similar to Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. But this Moses figure of Flocke is an opposite, an antimoses if you will. instead of leading the others to freedom like Moses did with the Israelites, im certain Flocke will lead them to death/enslavement. This Moses allusion has been made before, in the season 5 finale when ben had his speech in front of Jacob he said “but when he (locke) asks to see you, he gets marched straight up here as if he was Moses.”

I thought of Satan tempting Adam & Eve w/ Locke. I hadn’t considered Jesus!

Interesting episode.

I wonder why Locke was able to enter the temple only when Jacob & Dogen are dead. Then he can cross the ash? What about water then?

That was an interesting look that Locke had when Kate came stumbling out.

And what about Kate telling Claire about Aaron? Claire looked like she was ready to kill Kate.

One of the best episodes of the season. There was so much action.

I loved watching Sayid’s descent into evil. Sayid looked completely mad after killing Dogan and Lenon. When you send Ben Linus scurrying away after looking into your eyes, you know you’ve descended into a very dark place.

Jacob’s plan is really exacting a high price. It seems all of his disciples (Dogan, the Others, the candidates) are suffering greatly for his aims. If he is a Christ figure, he better have a good reason for all the suffering in the end.

I’m still disappointed that we aren’t getting more than a trickle of answers this far into the last season. So far the only big revelations are MIB’s purpose for pulling the strings, the revelation that the Lostie’s are candidates to replace Jacob, and the identity of fake Locke as the smoke monster.

I did think that it was interesting that Dogan had met Jacob before, but Ben had never seen Jacob (which he desperately wanted) while leading the Others. Remember Mikhail (the one eyed guy who killed Charlie)? He claimed, with conviction, that he was recruited by a “magnificent man”. I think this implies that Jacob must have done something for him to bring him to the Island. I wonder how many of the Others had personal promises from Jacob that gave them the motivation to stay and defend the Island from MIB’s machinations?

So when is Simon Peter going to be Rock and given the keys of the kingdom?
