Oh, and if everybody’s dead, were they dead before the 8 got off the island?
What about Claire’s son who’s living with his grandmother? And Walt’s boy living with his?

We know John Locke definitely died. Killed OFF the island so he couldn’t have been dead the first time, though he DID get off the island via a time warp. 😛

Don’t know how Esau took the form of John but it had to be after John’s body was returned to the island. John’s body is buried, but for a while there, Esau was walking around in John’s form while John’s body was still in the coffin.

We know Jacob was killed by Ben and supposedly there is a short window of time available for him to find a replacement body. However, that window is not so short because he’s still appearing to Hurley as himself, and perhaps as other people (Jack’s dad, Isabella).

Sayid definitely died in the temple. He came back to life, though. Maybe that’s proof he wasn’t the chosen one for Jacob. If Jacob has to abide by the same conditions as Esau’s, there has to be a dead body among the chosen. Perhaps the body has to be dead for a length of time and since Sayid did not remain dead for that entire time (the hourglass perhaps?) he just got a second chance at life…

Temple people are dead.
The other Island, however, has Charles Whitmore - is he alive or dead?

In Esau’s Camp:
Claire disappeared. Jin should have blown up on the freighter. Sayid died and came back to life. That we know of, Kate and Sawyer haven’t died.
**
In Jacob’s Camp**:
Jack, Sun, Lapidus, Miles, Ben, Hurley, and guards: Ilana and Richard…

They’re not dead enough for Jacob to take on their form…yet.

And what’s with the alternate reality off the island - Jack with a son, a lot of past characters from the different time periods alive and crossing paths with each other in a time period in which they all exist - including Ben’s daughter and father and Claire (still pregnant)??

and one more thing, did anyone else read more into the final scene than was shown?

Jacob gives MIB the bottle of wine, and its as if MIB was familiar with the analogy because he too turned the bottle upside down showing how the evil was trying to get out. But curiously MIB doesn’t pull the cork out, he smashes the bottle itself which also releases the wine. is this perhaps symbolic of his grand plan? he is going to find an unconventional method to achieve his goal? Perhaps he is not simply going to leave the island, but destroy it to ensure he is never imprisoned again, reminiscent of the sunken island perhaps? 😉
That reminds me of the magnetic issue and the original timer. Wasn’t that supposed to cause the island to implode or something? I recall a huge disturbance but that’s all (that was so long ago!). And yet, the island ‘moved’ before Oceanic 8s eyes. I don’t think the island is destructible, but I do think there is some meaning to MIB smashing the bottle.

Since Jacob was intact, and MIB was not in John’s body for that scene, I took it to be taking place shortly after Richard left MIB with the rock. Jacob’s reference to MIB having tried to kill him was with regard to RIchard, not Ben. It was to show us how long this plot of MIBs has been brewing (1867ish??), which, come to think of it, explains the whole Dharma initiative and the nuclear bomb…attempts by Esau/MIB to get the island blown up.

The present picture was MIB/Esau/John looking over the hill to see Hurley and Richard talking after Isabella appears to Hurley.

I was irked by the priest too. I felt it was better when they showed the priest receiving money from the captain. That solidified it for me that he was a rotten evil priest, and not a normal, Holy one. I hope the rest of the audience understood that too, and that ALL sins are forgiven.
I went over to Lostpedia today to check out their Ab Aeterno thread, and it looks like it devolved into an anti-catholic flame war over the “unbiblical” Catholic Church, priests, purgatory, catholic works, catholic guilt, and the whole nine yards. Normally they are pretty cool over there, but I was afraid this would happen over this episode (which had a very strong Catholic plot that drove Richard’s motivations).

Bleh. People can be so ugly; especially on the internet. The internet seems to reveal the really dark thoughts of people who often mask it in reality due to conformity and fear of consequences.

Not sure if I missed a post on this, so if this has already been asked, sorry for the duplicate.

Has anyone thought of what or who might be locked up in the sub? When Sawyer jiggled the padlock, the guard with the gun started to get defensive. I have absolutely no idea if a “what” or “who” is locked up in there. Anyone have ideas?

It’s been suggested that it could be Desmond in there. I’ve also heard theories that it is Walt. My bet is on Desmond and possibly his family as well.

I forgot all about Desmond. Why do you think Whitmoore wants Desmond or Walt to go to the island?

Because Desmond is a central part of the plot. He is “the variable” and the “rules don’t apply to him”. This suggests that rules such as “Whatever happens, happens” aren’t applicable to him.

He also swore to his wife that he would never return to the Island and told the Oceanic survivors that he was done with the Island. The only way he would possible go back to the island is in chains. Given that Widmore is his father-in-law and pretty nefarious, I’m guessing Desmond is held captive in the sub as part of Widmore’s plot.

I need to refresh my memory on the prior seasons! I forgot about the variable business. Interesting.

alrite ive got some breaking news regarding lost!

The knife that the man in black gave richard to use, (also the same knife dogan gave sayid to kill MIB) is a roman pugio and on the sheath there is depiction of romulus and remus being fed by their she wolf mother in the legend of how rome was formed.

So what i draw from this is that romulus and remus are like Jacob and MIB, i think they are brothers, and the wolf mother symbolic of their own mother who MIB regarded as crazy. MIB says he lost his humanity, perhaps he was stabbed in the heart by jacob using that same dagger?

I had great hopes for LOST, but given the fact that the writers have altered parts of the story so many times, I’ll be happy if they can even wrap the whole thing up with some credibility.

I enjoyed last night’s episode, “The Package”. The flash-sideways was surprisingly entertaining. Keamy makes a great villain. This was the first episode of the season were it seemed that the centric character had a worse life in the alt-reality. Jin walked right into Paik’s trap and almost got killed, Sun lost all her life savings, neither are married to each other, both are now broke and on the run in a foreign country, and both most likely lost their newborn daughter when Sun was shot.

It was also interesting to see Sun look into the mirror with bemusement. It seems like all the flash-sideways characters have looked into a mirror at vulnerable times: Jack on the 815 flight when he discovered a cut on his neck, Sawyer when he smashed the mirror, Sun in this episode, etc. I wonder if this has significance or if it’s merely a device to show that the universes mirror each other.

I thought the episode was OK. The last couple of minutes was interesting.

It was pretty low what Sun’s dad did. Sending Jin to give Keamy the money that is Keamy’s pay to kill Jin, that is just the epitome of arrogance and “badness”.

Good observation. I suppose the flash-sideways is “through the looking-glass”, in more ways than we might realize.

Oh, and whoever made the guess that it was Desmond locked in the room on the sub: Good call! 👍

It was a good episode, but there is no sense of urgency or epic action/drama that I would be expecting this late in the final season. The bar should be set higher; this would have been a great episode if there was still a season worth of episodes left.

I have the feeling that Lost is operating on a tight budget and they are conserving the epic action (and the lion share of their budget) for the final episode. I saw an article on a news website that lists the advertising cost for Lost’s final episode. It’s good, but the cost is nowhere as high as the final episode of series like Seinfeld, Mash, Raymond, etc. Lost has lost a lot of fans and probably a lot of advertising dollars as well since season 1/2.

I can see that.

I suppose that’s the one drawback to having a vision of the end of the show since the beginning. They don’t want to give it away until the very, very end, so it becomes necessary to coast a bit.

I thought last night was a great episode, and I got more emotion out of Jin seeing his child for the first time than the whole last week’s episode with Richard. And we found out more in this episode than last.

BTW, SPOILERS FOLLOW if you haven’t seen the episode!

IMO, something is going on with the magnetism and power pockets on the island. Maybe Smokey’s power is based on magnetism, thus making the island a great barrier for him. Remember when he said he couldn’t just turn into a cloud of smoke and fly over the water? No magnetism. And Charles W’s scientist wanted to know about the magnetic pockets Jin mapped. The hatch was a control over the big pocket of magnetic energy that they found when they tapped that area. IMO the magnetism and time travel are connected, too. I think that’s a key part of what’s going on.

We also found out that Flocke needs all of the candidates to go with him and leave the island. I betcha as long as the candidates are on the island he’s trapped. I’m liking the gates of hell analogy a lot more. And we know Kate isn’t a candidate, anymore.

Reading that my mind flashed to an image of Jacob at the lighthouse. What if in those moments Jack, Sawyer and Sun looked in the mirror Jacob was at the lighthouse looking at them through the mirrors there?

When did Jin mark the map?? Was this the result of one of those time travel flashes which placed him in the Dharma initiative?

Yes, Zoe told Jin that the map was made by the Dharma Initiative and asked if Jin did it (his name was signed on it). So he must have done it back when he worked security with Lafleure (Sawyer).
