I wonder if a sushi roll is considered a full meal. Of course I did eat that quarter of a stale Twinkie too.

I usually eat two rolls for a meal, so I think one would be considered a smaller meal. 🙂 It also depends on the roll…some are packed with more goodies than others. I think if I were to do a sushi roll it would be a veggie one…

I haven’t had sushi in a while, at a restaurant…I miss it.:o

A stale twinkie? You were feeling either very risky or very desperate…lol:p

Fadda Miguel said to eat something you don’t like in place of fasting. 😛

It was a Gojira roll, which was spicy crunchy tuna with avocado on top. My usual Friday night roll.

If I had access to a stale Twinkie, I’d eat it right now.

I’m diabetic, but fasting on Sunday morning until after Mass doesn’t cause any problems (except a little rubbly tummy) and I can manage the only two days fasting is asked of me.

On Wednesday, I went to my aunt’s funeral. After we had a luncheon at her favorite restaurant and that was my meal. Almost everyone there was at least nominally Catholic, but only 3 of us ordered fish, me, Aunt Rena who’s 93 and my late aunt’s sister in law who’s in her 80s. Then about 9pm I had some toast. That works for me. On Good Friday, I’ll probably put off eating until dinner time, get some fish at the fish fry, and maybe a little something like toast later in the evening.

I think that if you take a look at your normal meals, and cut two of them down, you’d probably be ok. You don’t have to starve and get cranky. Instead of 2 eggs, toast and juice for breakfast, just have one egg and the toast. Instead of a sandwich and fries and a milkshake for lunch, just the sandwich (tuna or cheese, of course). You can find a way to make this work for you without making everyone around you hate you.

lol–hmmm…eat something I don’t like. Broccoli here I come! lol
I loathe that veggie.:o

Hmmm…your sushi roll sounds heavenly. Have you ever made sushi? It looks complex…I don’t think I’d ever be able to wrap it that tight.🤷

We always have a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch (like tuna fish or peanut butter or a grilled cheese sandwich), with maybe some pretzels or chips of some kind or a piece of fruit, either that or a bowl of ramen noodles with crackers or some veggies that we add to it and then a piece of fruit and then for dinner, some kind of fish, some veggies and some kind of potato, either baked, fried, french-fries, potato wedges or tater tots. We don’t eat between meals and we do this on Ash Wed., every Friday during lent and all Fridays throughout the year. We’re both healthy though and it has never bothered us. We once tried bread and water on Wednesdays and couldn’t do it, we went through like a half of a loaf of bread, a gallon of water each, at least, and we were cranky as all get out and light headed to boot. So, instead we do the above.

I like your meal idea…I had never thought of toast. LOL I ate a bowl of oatmeal, small bowl, today…for breakfast…and for lunch, had the soup and a small amount of fish. For dinner, the sorry fish filet sandwich from McDonald’s. Is that food? lol

I need to remember…TOAST. Toast would be good.👍 Thanks for sharing.

i had a PBJ and a hunk if spinach calzone for lunch today. ash wednesday i had a greens only salad and a 1/4 cup of brown rice.

Okay…Okay…so I thought today was supposed to be an obligatory fast…lol maize…your lunch sounds sooo much more appealing (albeit the food group blend is a bit…odd) than mine was!😛

I had egg salad and a few grapes for lunch… It was gooooood

Actually I have! I made a Cali roll, and it tasted EXACTLY like what we get in the local Japanese restaurants—except somehow it ended up in a spiral instead of the usual roll with rice on the outside, stuff on the inside.

There’s a lot of technique going on at the sushi bar.

The Pioneer Woman recently blogged about a sushi chef visiting her and teaching her some sushi-making techniques. There are two more posts that go with this one. Have fun, sushi lovers!

I eat a bagel and tea for breakfast. A peanut butter sandwich for lunch. A piece of fish and veggie salad for dinner. That and small variations on it are my Lenten meals.

I do miss sweets, and hamburgers. They taste very good come Easter.

Thanks for the link. Awesome knife there in the picture!

although one of my major pet peeves is the mis-use of the word DECADENT to describe something luxurious or delicious. The root word is decay. Decadence is to be avoided at all costs.

Hey, that looked like a Cali roll, too.

I do have a question: the official fasting rules state that liquid can be taken between meals. Is this just water, or is coffee with milk in it okay?

I can has a V-8?

I don’t like misused words, either. The one that annoys me lately is “decimated.” It is used in place of “devastated,” but it actually means “reduced by 10%.”

You can has V-8, OJ, coffee with milk, Hawaiian Punch, sweet tea, root beer, milk, Slim-Fast, hot chocolate… If drinking were restricted to water, the rule would say water.

You cannot has cheezburger, however.

Funny you say that, I bought some pancheta to add to an eggplant dish I made last night, and it tasted reaaaallly good…I think I will have a greater appreciation for meat, etc once Easter comes, so true.:o

I had pizza for lunch today. What I learned was that pizza with extra cheese, which is a slithery mess when it first comes out of the oven at the pizzeria, is much, much better when gently warmed after it’s been refrigerated for a couple of days.

Last night we went out to dinner with FIL and DD, and while I had a dish of fruit salad, I watched them eat cherry pie, lemon meringue pie and coconut cake.

Oh, you said DON’T talk about pizza and desserts - sorry! 😛
