Reducing the spread is important, even if we cannot perfectly eliminate this. This is because this reduces the number of people who may catch the infection, the number of people who may need an ICU bed as a result of the infection.

Already there are multiple places that are being overloaded, these patients are being sent to other cities.

So please wear your mask! Your healthcare providers will thank you. Some of them by the way may themselves be at risk of severe health problems if catching Covid, due to their own medical conditions. Yet, are still continuing to work. Same with other front line workers.

This absolutely is a moral question. Will you participate in saving lives, or will you continue to risk the lives of innocent people? That’s the very definition of a moral question
Many believe masks do not help, certainly not enough to be statistically significant,or that they can even end up increasing the spread. It certainly isn’t “saving lives” for healthy people to run around wearing a mask. It is not a moral question of any worth to people looking at all the data and doing the math. Please stop with this hyperbole.

No, it’s about ensuring there are enough medical icu beds for people who need it with covid, so health care workers won’t have to triage who lives or dies.

Can you summarize? I don’t have the fancy google account and it won’t let me access it.

4 1/2%
Math is math and anyone who can do basic division can calculate the rate.
Are you saying the death rate is 4.5% or .45%? 4.5 is absurd so you must mean .45, which is still likely high for combined all age groups.
I believe numbers in the few-percent range are the ratio of fatalities to confirmed cases. Unconfirmed cases are not included in that calculation, so it does not accurately reflect the lethality of the disease.

A presentation referencing several studies and citations on the negligible effect of wearing masks to prevent the spread of a virus, especially on those not presenting with coughing as a symptom. Quote from Dr Fauci and references statements from CDC and WHO.

I think the only way I’m wearing a mask is going to the grocery store, which I do already, but that’s it. Most times I forget and laugh about it, but won’t get it. I don’t believe all the hype(not radically), how it was transmitted and the misinformation that is out there with the thing in the first place and masks. If I’m asked to wear one, then I’ll put one on. They aren’t going to arrest or fine anyone, that was a scare tactic to do it. They might if they decide that it will be like that though.

BUT, in the very beginning I heard it came from China and I studied it a bit. So much information out there. So many opinions from News, TV, Internet. It’s still like that.

Of course, professional people should be wearing it, like always.

Link please.

Dr. Fauci has changed his opinion so I’m not sure that counts.
Yeah, but, according to him, he really didn’t change his opinion, he just said that earlier because he wanted to control how we reacted so there would be more medical grade masks available to medical personnel back then.

That definitely does not play into the “they’re just lying about their reasons for mask mandates, it’s all about control” narrative at all.

The comment that started this was about creating mass graves for one third of humanity. . . . 4 1/2% of humanity is roughly 7.8 billion x .045 which is roughly 350,000,000 deaths. A number far beyond anything I’ve heard.

. . . .

Not sure how to answer because I’m not sure what the original content in the video is regarding Fauci. What point are they trying to make where are you trying to make with respect to masks and Fauci?

His/her 4 1/2% makes no sense at all.
The number makes sense in its correct context because it is based on real data: covid-19 deaths divided by positive covid-19 tests.

Public health professionals know, and they’ll tell you, that the true lethality (true covid-19 deaths divided by true covid-19 infections) has to be lower than this figure, because not everyone who caught covid-19 and recovered went and got tested. The number of recovered untested persons is unknown at this time. Public health professionals are reluctant to guess how many those are, but it must be a lot.

This should be a straightforward matter of known knowns and known unknowns (thank you Dick Cheney). The confusion begins when journalists or commentators misinterpret that figure.

I think it’s unkind and misleading to question anyone’s math skills about this. The number is calculated correctly from the available but incomplete data.

The death rate of those that get the virus is somewhere around 4.5% at this time, in the United States. I varies based on location and lag. That is the rate only of confirmed cases, of course. I could not be clearer earlier as I had limited typing capability. Already the number dead has passed those who die of Alzheimer’s in a year, and is approaching the number who will die from stroke in 2020, then those who die from accidents. It is most probable that it will be the third leading cause of death in the United Stated this year, behind heart disease and cancer.

Exaggerating the danger is not helpful, but neither is downplaying the disease. Make no mistake, this year, COVID and our response to it has become a significant pro-life issue.

I see someone has a head for numbers. When I was a kid, we used to have contest where all the calculations where done in our head and we could only right down the answers. I thought that was a lost skill.
