Perhaps for the moment we are blessed. However I for one am quite concerned when I hear of the “fairness” doctrine being presented by the left. Then there is ‘political correctness’ itself. Not to mention the fanatical refusal to even get to mention Intelligent Design in school textbooks. The change in Immenent Domain laws are concerning as well. Parental rights are being eroded as well with issues such as abortion rights for all (under age children) without parental consent such as in California. Then let us look at the demonizing of the Tea Party. The Media Bias -the self described Liberals in overwhelming percentages of the Media and College institutions. (see Ben Stein’s ‘Expelled’) The banning of ROTC from college Campuses. The battles for the Conscience Clause for health care providers. Eric Holder suing Arizona for protecting itself … Then there is abortion itself which denies Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness’ to the pre-born. Really …need I go on?
Oh just be quiet and count your blessings that you live in the land that is bless by God Himself. It is the greatest nation the world has ever seen and we are better than everyone else because…well…because we think we are.

Well, who was it? … Dept of Homeland Security? … that declared conservatives, religious Christians and veterans are the biggest threat?

I think you may be referencing one of Obama’s Faux Pas about Christians toting guns etc…

According to Mark Levin, anyway, yes it does.

Ok, good, just checking. I’m with that for the most part, but some people give Republicans a pass and I don’t know why. 👍

Considering that DHS and the FBI are now sweeping Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc… to collect 'evidence" of criminal activity, YES. Plus, I am not in the business of trying to convince people just how much liberty they have lost since 9/11. If you can’t figure that out for yourself and take precautions, that’s your problem.
If DHS and the FBI are sweeping Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc, looking for evidence of criminal activity, that is not evidence that you have lost any degree of liberty . . . unless, of course, you are actually involved in criminal activity. I would also note that with this post you don’t seem to be in the business of trying to convince anyone of anything, but you seem willing to toss out these alarmist gems for some reason. “I’m not in the business of trying to convince people just how much liberty they have lost since 9/11. If you can’t figure that out for yourself and take precautions, that’s your problem.” What is the purpose of this statement if not to create alarm among people? You seem to believe that people have lost liberty since 9/11 and that they should take some sort of precaution, but you don’t explain how they have lost liberty or what sort of precautions they should take or why you even believe this. No, you’re not in the business of convincing people . . . but you’re attempting to just that. Only, you don’t present any evidence of lost liberty at all. You’re simply telling people that they if they can’t see it for themselves, they have a problem. This is simply a slightly dishonest and insincere way of saying something without having to bear the burden of proving one’s own opinion with solid data.

the US Constitution was suspended by two supreme court judgments in 1973 and we are operating essentially outside the Constitution until the most fundamental rights it guarantees are restored, namely the right to life.
👍

I think it’s a stretch to say we are presently in a police state. However, there are some things to really be concerned about.

-If the Feds go after you, you had better be a multi-millionaire, because no ordinary person can afford the kind of defense he would need. Add to that the fact that many federal criminal statutes are so vague that almost anybody could be charged under one of them.

-The current administration is determined to split America into a majority population of “recipients” and a minority population of “payers”. This is not really even a secret. Once this is accomplished (and I believe it will be) the “payers” will simply be at the mercy of the “recipients” in an economic sense at least, and of the government that manipulates the “recipients”. We might already be there. Obamacare, for instance, subsidizes the health insurance costs of a family of four up to a maximum income of $88,000.00. That would very much be the majority. Of course, the fact that the increased cost of all the mandates will probably erase (and more) the subsidy, will be lost on everyone, somewhat like the fact that SS is a ripoff but everybody insists on getting “his”.

Not a nation of men, but a nation of really, really vague laws.

  • The Patriot Act gives federal agents the right to write their own search warrants.
  • The supreme court upholding “no knock” searches allws law enforcement to break a door down, search, and seize the property of anyone they suspect of committing a crime, or attempting to cover up a suspected crime. Once this property is seized, it is damned near impossible to recover, even if you are proven innocent.
  • DHS is asking people to spy on their neighbors with their “See Something, Say Something” campaign.
  • The federal government is going to troll social networks to “look for evidence” of criminal activity. You don’t think the publication of this fact isn’t intended to have a cooling effect on free speech?
  • TSA is going to start taking their pretty blue uniforms on the road! They announced a plan to do random stop checks on buses and trains. How long before they have random road checks to make sure you have your papers?
  • Speaking of papers, people are now being arrested for nothing more than lack of adequate identification. Yes, if you are stopped for any reason by a cop, even if its for jaywalking, and don’t have “proper ID”, they can arrest you and hold you for up to 24 hours.
You don’t think we are living in a police state? I say take your head out of the sand.

Well to be fair, there are degrees of police state activities. There’s the police state that spies on people and that’s it. There’s the police state that fondles people at airports in addition to spying using street cameras. There’s the police state that requires people to purchase things against their will. There’s the police state where you are asked for papers at every intersection.

So you see, it can all be a little confusing. Just like sexuality, a police state is really along a continuum and the very declaration of “police state” is judgmental and subject to alternate points of view.😃

Your comments, citizen, sound disturbingly like free speech and love of liberty. These are ideas relegated to a monstrous past filled with individuals like George Washington and Patrick Henry. We have evolved beyond those primitive beliefs. And remember, you leader loves you.

Hmmmmmm… One wonders… With the vast stores of monies that Planned Parenthood has - will they not lobby to call protesting abortions ‘illlegal activity?’ They have already been linked to the Occupy Wall Street crowd I have been told (Theresa Tommio {MSP?} of Catholic Radio) So… why not?

Oh just be quiet and count your blessings that you live in the land that is bless by God Himself. It is the greatest nation the world has ever seen and we are better than everyone else ***<—Who (beside you) has said that? ***because…well…because we think we are.
Apparently you have a problem thinking that being blessed is somehow connected to being “better than everyone else”, and rather than own your own problem, you project it onto other people.

The overwhelming majority of people don’t make that kind of presumption and I DO know what I’m talking about here because I work two jobs to pay my rent and one of those jobs is driving around wealthy gated communities in a clunky old 1987 Aerostar picking up bags of drycleaning/laundry from people, having it cleaned for them and then delivering it back two days later. All these people are more blessed than me, and NONE of them behave with that kind of attitude. Unlike what you describe, they’re open, welcoming and kind…all of them.

After work I come home to an area of town where the homeless folk are all over the place because of the nearness of a large state park where they can sleep. And I don’t treat those people like I’m better than they are just because I am blessed by comparison. Neither do my neighbors. These folk are all over the place here and they’re as much a part of our little “south-town-society” as anyone else.

Who besides you is talking about being better than other people just because one happens to be more blessed.

I think what can happen is that you can start off with the perfectly moral and correct philosophy of “work hard to get ahead” and it starts to morph into what you’re complaining about: “you aren’t as successful because you didn’t work hard”. This morphing often occurs because it easy to run into people that abuse the system and never lift a finger. However, it’s wrong to use that experience to begin blaming all the poor for their various situations.

I think this ties into why charity is supposed to be done on a individual or local level (subsidiarity) because we can then help the needy and downtrodden and not waste our finite help on abusers and scammers. Of course, this assumes that people are charitable.

Come on in, but watch out for the 60-pound anvil I suspend over the door every night.

Might make your head flatter than it already is.

I’ve called them I don’t know how many times on Eric Holder not prosecuting the Black Panthers, on Obama refusing to enforce the law of the land (DOMA), and on Timmy Geithner not paying his taxes, and they just continue to ignore me…

Reach out and fondle back. That’ll get their attention.

Reciprocal groping. I like it. I have to fly out in the morning, I’ll give that a try.
