There is no such thing as a heavenly mother. There is no distinction made by sex, race, slave, or free in the Kingdom of Heaven. We are all one including Mary.

Do Catholics believe that there is a queen of heaven?
Virgin Mary is the Queen of Heaven. We believe in the Trinity - The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Maybe God the Father has no gender, but why we call him Father?

How many have come to know Jesus on their own?
More over. I know Francis Beckwith, an Evangelical was a former Catholic and was a minister. After reading the writings of the Early Apostolic Fathers, Nicene-Church Fathers, he return back to the Catholic Church.

I know Alex Jones a former Penecostal Minister, now a Catholic Deacon, also converted because of Jesus and the writings of the Early Church Fathers.

Many converts who were former Protestants love of Scripture lead them to the study of ECF, and calling to become Catholic. Scott Hahn and his wife Kimberly, Tim Staples, Jimmy Akin, Steve Ray, Dave Armstrong, Patricia Bond (James White’s sister (Baptist Apologist).

ah probably not. if Joseph really endured an entire lifetime of sleeping beside her without sex. :D*

inappropriate
Aggy,… and you wonder why I’d put you on my ignore list…!?

I would highly suggest that all others dump AgnosTheist onto their ignore lists as well.

I’m a big fan of silliness, but outright blasphemous rubish is something entirely different.

Best to you Aggy in growing up a CONSIDERABLE amount before you show your goofy monicker around here again.

Saints have describe Mary as extremely beautiful. They also describe Jesus as extremely handsome and beautiful. I would reframe using the word Hot to describe Mary.

Your converts isn’t the subject I was referring to. I was speaking to the question of how many folks have come to Jesus through Mary.

Have you looked in your bible concordance for queen of heaven?
You might be suprised to find that this is not a new belief since the time of Mary and this practice was not so very good.

Jeremiah 7:18 (Whole Chapter)
The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger.

Jeremiah 44:17 (Whole Chapter)
We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our fathers, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm.

Jeremiah 44:18 (Whole Chapter)
But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine."

Jeremiah 44:19 (Whole Chapter)
The women added, “When we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands know that we were making cakes like her image and pouring out drink offerings to her?”

Jeremiah 44:25 (Whole Chapter)
This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You and your wives have shown by your actions what you promised when you said, ‘We will certainly carry out the vows we made to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.’ "Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows!

Ah, well, what is this referring to?

If you say God, do you mean Zeus?

If you say queen of heaven do you mean Mary?

Seeing as how Mary did not exist at this time in the Bible, it is highly unlikely this refers to her. This is referring to the pagan god Ishtar.

Catholics do not believe Mary is a goddess. Perhaps that is your belief, but it is not Catholic.

To Catholics, Mary, as the Mother of Jesus, is our spiritual mother. She is the Mother of God, and the Mother of the Church (in a spiritual, not literal sense). Christ as our elder brother in the Faith, has given us, by our adoption into God’s family, His mother to be our mother as well.

For Mormons, Mary does not occupy this role. There is, as we have established on another thread, an unnamed Heavenly Mother who is married to God the Father. Now a thought occured to me tonight. Joseph was a holy man, so is it not possible, even likely, that he is now a god, with his own world? And if this is so, and since marriage is eternal in Mormonism, Mary would still be his wife. Thus, Mary could be the Heavenly Mother of another world. I know this is pure speculation, but is this in theory possible in Mormonism?

POI & FWIW: Jesus Christ is “the Author and Finisher of our faith” - the phrase “our elder brother in the Faith” could suggest that He is only a saint, & not the “King of saints”.

As for the theory suggested - On Mormon premises, isn’t Mary married to God the Father & to Saint Joseph ? God the Father is only (IIRC) “a perfected man” - though not necessarily from this earth. Which suggests that God the Father is (from our POV) an alien.

Mormon Mariology is interesting - but certainly not Christian…

I wonder if the Catholic Church has replaced Ishtar with Mary.

I have seen pictures of Pope John Paul 2 kneeling to a crowned statue of Mary. Is this practice acceptable in Catholocism? This very act implies worship of Mary and also gives the appearance of Idolatry.

No, Queen of Heaven is a title given to Mary as the Mother of God. We do not worship her as a goddess the way the people of Jeremiah’s time did with regard to Ishtar.

I will assume that you are serious in your question, and not merely being “silly”.

Is it acceptable for a man to remember his mother in front of a reminder of her, and ask her, since he considers her to be alive in heaven, to pray for him and those he cares for?

Yes.

Does the appearence of the protestant “flailing about and blithering incoherently in apparent voodoo trance” make that behavior “psychotic”…!?

No.

To hold to a belief that others are evil simply because one’s uniformed prejudices declare them evil without enquiring into what the real explanation of there apparent “evil” is is to sin greatly, with the sin of uncharity.

No. That is one of the Anti-Catholic bias that comes from Protestants. They make it to justify the false belief of Catholicism.

The belief that Mary is the heavenly Mother is her relationship to her son, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. We know Jesus inherited the kingdom of his father, David, and he will reign over his kingdom forever. In the OT kingdom, Jewish kings have mothers as queen. Since Jesus is from that lineage, his mother would rightly earn the as heavenly queen mother. This is what we called Biblical typologically.

I recall a theologian once said, I forgot his name said this. The NT is hidden in the OT, and the OT is revealed in the new. I also like to note that Middle Eastern cultures not just Jewish culture in the ancient Near East have mothers as their queens.

Consider these passages in the OT.

1 Kings 2:17, 20 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the King does not refuse his mother. Jesus is the new Davidic King, and He does not refuse the requests of his mother Mary, the Queen.

1 Kings 2:18 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the Queen intercedes on behalf of the King’s followers. She is the Queen Mother (or “Gebirah”). Mary is our eternal Gebirah.

1 Kings 2:19 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom the King bows down to his mother and she sits at his right hand. We, as children of the New Covenant, should imitate our King and pay the same homage to Mary our Mother. By honoring Mary, we honor our King, Jesus Christ.

1 Kings 15:13 - the Queen Mother is a powerful position in Israel’s royal monarchy. Here the Queen is removed from office. But now, the Davidic kingdom is perfected by Jesus, and our Mother Mary is forever at His right hand.

2 Chron. 22:10 - here Queen Mother Athalia destroys the royal family of Judah after she sees her son, King Ahaziah, dead. The Queen mother plays a significant role in the kingdom.

Neh. 2:6 - the Queen Mother sits beside the King. She is the primary intercessor before the King.

The passage of Revelation 12:1-5 affirms this. We read, a woman clothed with sun, with twelve crowns on her head, and a moon under her feet. She gave birth to a male child, who will all nations with an iron rod.

There are considerable factors when we read this passage. First let us interpret the individuals here as individuals, or persons.

Let us look at the passage shall we.

Revelation 12:1-5 said:
1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars: 2 And being with child, she cried travailing in birth, and was in pain to be delivered. 3 And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads, and ten horns: and on his head seven diadems: 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to be delivered; that, when she should be delivered, he might devour her son. 5 And she brought forth a** man child, who was to rule all nations with an iron rod: and her son was taken up to God, and to his throne**.

We read three characters.
  1. The woman clothed with the sun.
  2. The red dragon.
  3. Man-child.
When we interpret this passage (note I said this passage). The red dragon is clearly identified as Satan. The man-child is Jesus. We know the man-child is Jesus because he will rule all a nations with an iron rod. We also read that the man-child was taken out to God and to his throne. This verse sounds like the ascension of the Lord, doesn’t it. Ok, here is the kicker. Who is the individual woman who gave birth to Jesus? Mary. Yes, the woman clothed with the sun can be interpreted as Mary because the child is Jesus.

There are other interpretation of who the woman is. The woman can also be interpreted as the Church because she have offspring of believers. The woman is also Israel because from Israel a Messiah was to be born. The Book of Revelation contains literal and symbolic meaning. This is just one.

This thread is two years old. Most of the people posted in it originally are no longer here. Why would anyone want to go and dig it up?

zerinus
Because people are always interested in their Heavenly Mother. Why would you bump it? 😃

I think people now change there wrong thoughts against Mother Of Queen (Mother Mary) after read this topic.
I listen some people are saying about Mother Mary like Match Box. So please now change you mind and give to Mother Mary respect. Please don’t say sin anymore. Please pray for them those have wrong thought about our Mother Mary and Her Virginity.
I pray for them that God our Father Change their mind, Amen! :gopray2:

I have the utmost respect for the mother of Jesus whom he was made incarnate from. But I do not believe that proper respect for Mary includes titles such as mediatrix, co-redemptrix, queen of Heaven or our mother. Mary is a saint, not diety.
