It’s an Episcopal Church. They also think same sex marriage is holy.

What is their suggestion for how to handle trespassers? I bet when people want to trespass on their church property they don’t do nothing about it. Someone should test that out.

I suppose that would of kept Jesus safe, too.

Yah, know?

From the people who wanted to MURDER all the baby boys.

Good grief. This political nonsense has gotten out of hand. No one wants immigrants murdered.

Mary and Joseph fled from not their home to another place that wasn’t their home but all within the same region. It was all part of the Roman Empire. It would of been closer to go to Arabia. But they didn’t because it was a different country.

Sad, neighborhood thieving must be real bad. Need to move to the burbs I guess.

Well they weren’t Arabs then. The Arabs didn’t move in until Mohammed I don’t think.

You’re right. They did not think of themselves as ARabs then, and were a distinct people. The Arabs just conquered them, but they didn’t kill them all. Some of the Christians in Egypt still speak a language little changed from ancient Egyptian. But I think they all consider themselves “Arabs” now.

“Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do to me.”

Under the latest Flores decision, the government must provide the minors (and they’re not all little children) with food, clothing, shelter, education, entertainment and safety while their parents’ cases are being heard or waiting to be heard. The parents (or whoever they are) can end it immediately by voluntarily waiving their asylum claim and going back to Mexico.

So, as long as they are willing to leave and put their children back in danger (because that’s why they are seeking an asylum), they can be with their children. Doesn’t sound heartless at all.
The last I knew, the rejection rate for asylum seekers was 75%. It has been for some time, including before Trump.

Well, I guess the 25% with legitimate claims either lose their kids for prolonged periods of time without knowing where they are or how they are doing OR they can go back to wherever they came from and put their kids in danger.
Those who are successful are permanently allowed to reside in this country.

Keep in mind that there are nearly five times the children who come here alone than are here with their parents seeking asylum. Typically they have finally grown up enough to “run away” and reunite with their illegal immigrant parent. Enrique’s Journey is a good book on this. The sad fact of the matter is that many of the children here aren’t coming with their mother or father.

If they have a parent, it’s one parent. And many times it’s against the will of another parent…which is one reason children’s asylum claims are denied. It’s extremely ugly and dirty and people don’t want to deal with custody issues if a child’s life is in jeopardy from criminal or civil elements. Does no one remember Elian Gonzalez? His mother died trying to get to the US and he had relatives to care for him but his father wanted him and did not want to come to the US. His case is not rare and one willing parent doesn’t override another.

Asylum cases are overwhemingly approved with little physical evidence and little more than a story. (For obvious reasons) To be denied the US typically acts with concern of criminal activity, which includes parental kidnapping.

The crying little girl used as the face of parental separation? Not separated from her mother. Her mother did, however, take the girl against her father’s will and abandon her 3 other children between the ages of 6-14

Great - but your approach is that the kids can either be taken away from the parents to some unknown place without any communication or the parents can take their kids back to wherever and put them in danger.
Not at all. Those who really are in danger, presumably, don’t go back to their home countries.

The separation and communication issues are moot now. Trump apparently opted for “catch and release” just as Obama did when the Ninth Circuit said they couldn’t keep the minors in detention with the adults they came with.

But they do (or would have) ended up separated from their children under the Trump policy, so child trauma is a feature of seeking asylum in the US. I’m glad that Trump changed this evil policy, but his administration isn’t doing a very good job of getting everyone back together again and I am disturbed by how much pressure it took for him to change this evil policy.
Keep in mind, these people have traveled hundreds of miles in a slow trek to the U.S. Do you really think their accompanying adults (whether parents or others) didn’t tell them what was ahead? The adults (and I’m sure the minors) knew exactly what would happen if they were caught and claimed asylum.

But never fear about getting people back together. A Ninth Circuit District Court ordered the government to release them all within 30 days. That was about a week ago. They’ll be released into the general population of the U.S. because there isn’t an alternative for the Trump administration any more than there was for the Obama administration when the Ninth Circuit told them they couldn’t keep adults and minors together.

Open borders. That’s what the Democrats wanted all along, and now they have it.

It’s a shame that the Trump administration with all of the best people can’t work with a Republican Congress to come up with a system that actually works.
All it takes is two Republicans to side with the 100% of Democrats that vote against everything Repubs propose, to block any kind of meaningful reform. Can’t pass the senate with 49 votes any more than the Obama administration could.

Snicker if you wish. Not terribly surprising that as many as two Republicans would not agree with the others. But the real block is the Democrat “resistance” movement that opposes everything Trump or the Repubs propose, without exception.

This is a remarkable admission that these children are safer in the care of the Americans that separated them from their parents in accordance with the law than they were with their parents.
It is also a remarkable statement that they should not have come in the first place. Mexico failed to keep them safe on their journey here. Let’s give them a safe journey home.

The Republicans hold all branches of government, they own what happens.
They actually don’t, though their efforts deserve little or no credit. Their majority is paper thin. Now if you want to go harsh on someone, look at your Dem party. They really did have an unassailable majority in the early years of the Obama administration. They could have totally re-written immigration law, but did nothing.
that the refugees are coming to this country to get out of harm’s way
Possibly as many as 25% of them, yes.
