We are all unique, yet it is the One Lord that told us He would give us more than we can bear. So, I am sorry, but you are wrong, everyone can chose to NOT masturbate, just like everyone who is a smoker, can quit. Will it be easy? No. Could it be easier for some and more difficult for others? Of course.

Having been addicted to both smoking and masturbation (and lets throw pornography in as well) I may be speaking personally when I say I was able to stop, but I am not unique. Everyone can stop. And lets not make excuses, I am 29 years old, started masturbating and smoking when I was 13. Quit smoking at age 20, and only just recently stopped masturbating. My libido is fine (I got married at 22 and had a good sex life, yet still I masturbate sometimes). It is our current culture that brainwashes children into thinking masturbation is okay, when it is a sin. After reading “Good News About Sex & Marriage” by Christopher West, I firmly resolved to never masturbate again, and I know that I never will. Do I still have urges to smoke or masturbate at time? Sure do. But I have firmly resolved to never do these things again.
Isn`t that what my post in essence is saying, Yeh & another thing, I am always wrong, I attend church weekly, sometime twice a week, I go to confession often, I listen to what the PRIEST tells me, But I am always wrong, Well, I think You are wrong. Now West says that oral & anal sex is ok as long as its not brought to climax, & your telling me a man or woman cant masturbate without sin attached. Oral & anal sex is animal, it has no place in a Good catholic marriage, But once again I guess I am wrong. The mouth or anus are not sex organs & should not be used as such. I also predict that You will certainly masturbate again

I’ll adress this in chronological order to make it a little easier to understand why you are so very wrong! first off your claim and chessmane4e5’s claim are near direct opposites! your veiw is very reminiscent of calvanism saying that only the elect can avoid a certain sin! and thanks for your great rap sheet on church attendance but that realy has no relavence at all to wether or not your stance is right there are many “devout” catholics who are horribly mistaken in some of their claims! and what is with your hatred of the west? and oral and Anal stimultion are ok as long as a climax of the male happens inside the vagin of his wife! this has been well established in many a thread on this board! And are we not technicaly animals check your science! we are above animalistic drives but still a party to them!and just as a final word here, why do you feel you need to add doubt to those who are trying to fight the good fight? is it because misery loves company and you simply wish to drag another down with you? because if that is so the bible says woe onto you!

I am not trying to drag anyone down with me, I am the last person to do something like that. WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS living here on earth not heaven, God knew man was weak & knew he had to send a savior to redeem weak man. As long as man lives on this earth he is going to do something sinful & You know it, we don`t walk around with halos, also That is what confession is for if anyone wants to go, not many do U know. I do not agree with west at all , these threads on this board mean nothing, Go to church & confession these threads are just a pastime for most who think they know it all. Your post makes no SENSE!

Ok to tell someone your simply human so will never be able to fully conquer a vice is very much trying to drag another down! and I never said we were perfect! I basically said we are called to attempt perfection! if you simply quit you have failed! and saying that you should simply use confession without making an effort to stop not only invalidates a confession it adds the sin of pressumption to your next one! Also it matters little what sense you think my posts make they all contain THE TRUTH! and to argue that this thread is simply for no it alls does nothing for you but show that you for some reason have a deep seated somthing against the people on this forum. oh and although these forums aren’t confession true, they are still very helpful to those who are trying to learn more, expand their faith and conquer their own vices such as I.

Hey I have my opinion about some things & you have yours, thats about the whole scene on these threads.I told You man I go to confession I listen to the advice of My confessor not any of these people on this forum. Everyone`s life is different some people can never rid themselves of a particular sin tho they try all their lives & Guess what, all the Lord asks is that we try, & only he knows that . Every one is on a different level of his spiritual growth, we are not all growing at the same speed.
If & when I sin, if I feel called to confession, I go, even tho I may confess the same sins over & over again like most all of us do who even bother to go to confession, even tho I know that I will probably fall into the same sin again I go, at least I wont receive the Eucharist in a sinful state like most do. Trust me we are all managing our faith differently,we are . Now tell me my confessions are not valid, I take the advice of my confessor not You or anyone like you

It’s certainly an alternative, just not a good one. Just because we can stimulate ourselves to orgasm with X, doesn’t mean it’s right, or even advisable.

Especially with how easy it is to let the mind wander (or become influenced) towards seriously lustful or perverted thoughts, playing with oneself really becomes a gateway to getting into some serious perversions. It’s no wonder the Church has always taught against it.

Sure, masturbation in and of itself is pretty minor, it would seem. But I think it’s another matter of God knowing that we need strict discipline in order to truly develop to our best spiritual potential. Just like with anything else, the self-mastery needed to truly live in a state of grace is a difficult and exacting task, and rigorous demands such as avoiding masturbation would help contribute to it.

For the greater good, I can see why it’s a mortal sin.

I can also say that using a condom will not kill anyone, but it is also sinful. Of course, one who has controlled his desires before they were married (not masturbated) will be much better prepared to practice NFP.

I agree, but what they do not need is permission. The OP was citing scientific sources to show that masturbation should be allowed (in some cases).

I know it seems to appear as though we are all callous, heartless, hateful Catholics, that want nothing more than to see people suffer, but in reality we (or at least I) are trying to keep people on the narrow path so they do not suffer the fires of hell.
I agree
If I love the person who struggles with the sin of masturbation (and I do, I do emphasize & know that it does indeed hurt to go through suffering with regards to avoiding this sin ) I would rather they go through the temporary pains of this life in order to enter the eternal joys of heaven than give in to the sin and suffer the eternal pains of hell. In other words If I love you I want you in heaven and will therefore do everything (including standing up for Truth, that is masturbation is wrong) that I can to get you there

Your brother in Christ
Zachary

Ok… there are many things wrong with that post! One, your veiws may be opinions but mine are simply the restatement of facts from the catechism, bible, and statements of the church… two, say that there is no possible way to conquer yours or anyone vices is not onlyfalse and unbiblical, it is also simply depressing! and good for you to not recieve communion with a mortal sin on your chest, but it doesn’t validate sinning on the basis of “I can just go to confession later”! 👍 And I care very little what you think about me, if you read the postes at least there is a chance of a seed being planted. is there not a verse in the bible: [BIBLEDRB]John 15:18[/BIBLEDRB]

Laud, I think that chessman mistakenly left out the not in his first sentence. The Lord told us He would NOT give us more than we can bear!

Qoute from Laud:

Laud,

And you are mistaken when you think that we cannot conquer this sin. I know many single men and women who have done this for many years. Yes, we can all stop sinning mortally if we ask Jesus for His help, are truly sorry for our sin, and we keep trying to rid ourselves of it. Maybe we don’t all walk around with halos but we are all called to become saints! Yes, that is biblical. Don’t you want to be a saint! It is possible you know. Try to love Jesus more than the sin. Because you are separated from Him and the His sanctifying grace every time you do this sin. When you go to confession and you receive sanctifying grace again you will get more graces every time you frequent the sacraments. Then it becomes easier to fight the fight. When you do confess make sure you have a firm purpose of amendment and real contrition for your sins. Jesus really wants you to choose Him rather than this sin. He will fight with you when you fight!

I most certainly did!!

Thank you for catching that :o

The Lord told us He would NOT give us more than we can bear!
So true! It’s easy to forget, but we know through the Scriptures and through the Tradition of the Church that the Lord does not overburden us. There’s never a need to give in to masturbation or to anything else.

If you need to masturbate, then lock the door and go for it. I guarantee 100% you will not go to hell, or be struck down by God.
who the heck are you to guarantee such a thing??

how arrogant…

how about this:

i can guarantee that if you go against the Church God estabilshed on Earth, you WILL go to Hell…

of course, that is overly simplistic, but so is the post i am responding to…

You have no real way of knowing that, to talk to someone that way, condemning someone to hell, thats The Lord`s job, not yours. The Lord is Merciful & compassionate,& understands our human nature better than we do.None of us are perfect, if we think we are we deceive ourselves. Seems like You have canonized yourself for beating the sin of Masturbation, yes, You may have done it over a period of time, so now give someone their time.

Read the above posts and you will see that Distracted was being factitious. You are correct to say that no one knows who will go to Heaven or Hell.

To be honest, I do not mind that people that tell others they are going to hell for such and such sin. On the other hand, it really irks me when I hear people tell others that they are going to heaven, so don’t worry. If the former is wrong, no big deal. If the latter is wrong, then that is a BIG DEAL.

Truthfully we do not know who is going where, There are people who live very degraded lives & have death Bed conversions, there are people who live saintly lives & then go wild, one size dont fit all in any situation, No two of us are going to be judged the same, to whom much is given , much is expected, to whom little is given, they are not held culpable. A priest once told me Ignorance is bliss, I believe that & most people want to remain ignorant, because they dont have to worry about shaping up their lives to please God.We will never know the real truth about anything until we die,

But if someone comes to you and ask “Is masturbation a Sin” because they are ignorant, are you to say, “Nope, go ahead, there is not way you will go to hell.”

Of course not, which was what was said earlier. I agree with everything you have said, but our job is to preach the Gospel of Christ, that includes what is Sinful. I know the Church has a reputation of making people feel guilty, but better to feel guilty in this world and repent, then to be happy but later go to hell.

This is how I feel chess, I personally do not think masturbation is a sin, I think its a God given healthy outlet or sublimation until You marry or whatever, have You noticed that almost every other new thread that is started is about people struggling with masturbation. they fight it for yrs &yrs & actually never beat the so called sin. The Catholic Church says we should avoid occasions of sin, but our sex organs we can not avoid, they are a part of our body, sometime even with the very best intentions, we still masturbate, it relieves stress, I think its healthy for us etc, however, tho I personally do not think it is a sin, If I do it, I will not approach the altar to receive the Eucharist without first going to confession, so I only think its a sin because the Church tells me it is. Many Catholics have problems with the teachings of the Church in some area, even Priests & consecrated religious have differences with the Church, we all have doubts, religion is supernatural, we are natural. sometimes it`s hard to believe in things You cant see or feel, also we are sexual beings , its very hard not to touch something that is right at your fingertips & feels good. If they say that married people can enjoy anal & oral sex, then what is so wrong with masturbation. Also, when I go to confession & confess the so called sin of Masturbation, the Priest thinks little of it. I really do not think it is a sin:shrug:

If you are Catholic I highly advise you read “the Good News about Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West. I just finished it today. It has opened my eyes to a lot of things and will recommend it to any Catholic! And, it makes sense.

With all do respect, why do you think your personal opinion is better than 2000 years of Tradition?

Also, from what you have written, I take it you are not married. (Correct me if I am wrong). So, do you think that once you are married, you will stop masturbating? Also, when you spouse touches you, do you think it will feel the same way as when you touch yourself? I speak from experience, it will not. Since you have “practiced” on yourself, you know what feels good. So now you have a problem. You can either try and “help” you spouse “do it the right way” or say nothing and not be truly enjoying the moment. This is not healthy for your marriage (I do not like to use the term ‘sex life’).
they fight it for yrs &yrs & actually never beat the so called sin.
Who never beats it? Everyone? I have, and I have heard from others that have. If people can beat Alcoholism, they can beat this.
The Catholic Church says we should avoid occasions of sin, but our sex organs we can not avoid, they are a part of our body, sometime even with the very best intentions, we still masturbate, it relieves stress, I think it`s healthy for us etc,
True, your sex organs are literally at your fingertips, but you can still avoid the occasion of sin. Set-up something to do during those times you used to masturbate. When you feel the desire, say the Rosary. Avoid movies or t.v. shows that arouse you. If you try, you can avoid a lot of the occasions of this sin.
however, tho I personally do not think it is a sin, If I do it, I will not approach the altar to receive the Eucharist without first going to confession, so I only think its a sin because the Church tells me it is. I have addressed the first lines. It is true that many Catholics do have problems with Church teachings, but this is not an excuse to disregard them. The last 30 years (maybe more) schools have been teaching that masturbation is normal. Is it no wonder that so many people are therefore trying it and doing it? It is definitely sad that their are Priests who doubts the teachings of the Church, but it is true they are human and can err, yet again this does not mean the Church is wrong.
If they say that married people can enjoy anal & oral sex, then what is so wrong with masturbation. Also, when I go to confession & confess the so called sin of Masturbation, the Priest thinks little of it. I really do not think it is a sin:shrug:
The Church does not say that Oral and/or Anal sex is “okay”, this is a misconception. If you are truly interested in learning why masturbation is a sin, and how a Catholic is to view sex, please read “Good News About Sex & Marriage” by Christopher West. You can get it at Amazon for under 10 bucks used, including shipping. Very easy read too 🙂
