Matt Fradd on Andrew Cuomo and Excommunication

He’s not be prideful. Matt Fradd is world reknown for pornography and masturbation addictions and he’s also world reknown for speaking on Aquinas. He has masters in theology and philosophy I believe. He’s not pushing an agenda. He’s using his God-given gifts to make a difference. Truly a modern day saint along with Evert and West in my opinion
 
I personally think he should be excommunicated. That law he signed goes beyond the scope of Roe v. Wade. The Church has to take a moral stand here and say that this isn’t something that is acceptable of any Catholic to do. I know people may disagree, but come on. The Church has to either stand on what it teaches or it may as well just become a secular body.
 
No one disagrees about his right to offer (name removed by moderator)ut to the bishops. The only issue is whether it’s a good idea for a layman to tell the LAITY, and non Catholics, what the bishops should do.

If you wanted to offer some (name removed by moderator)ut to Matt Fradd about his ministry, would you send to him, or get a platform where you tell the bishops what he ought to do.

They can’t decide if an infant is a person or not or what the meaning of gender is. I doubt they can do what Nero, Napoleon, Hitler, and Stalin couldn’t do.
 
The Church works best when each does their own part. Mothers, father’s, priests, sisters, bishops.

It works worst when everyone does the other party’s job…and neglects their own.

I’ve seen too many priests who go overboard, trying to act like “one of the guys”. Then there’s the “nuns on the bus”. What ministries get neglected when they are acting like laity?
Some people want the pastor to be now called the Facilitator. Some pastors agree.
Don’t get me started with role confusion in the family!

Cardinals Dolan isn’t his Bishop.

The New York archdiocese consists of Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, and westchester counties.

Cuomo is in Albany.
 
The Bishop of Albany can’t excommunicate him. Bishop Sharfenberger already said this in his interview on Fox News yesterday which I linked above. He said Cuomo is not in his jurisdiction.

It does in fact fall to Cardinal Dolan
 
The Epistle for Mass today is relevant, St Paul’s analogy of the Body, with different roles. The primary duty of “excommunicating” pro abortion pols is to defeat them from reelection. This takes work, by the laity. It begins at the grass roots level, when good guys, and bad guys, are seeking nomination in primaries.

It means taking around petitions for Town Council, getting a good lady nominated, maybe a couple times before election. Then support them as they move up.

The vast majority of Catholics who prefer prolife, never work for Prolife.

Thus, you see lots of comments on the internet complaining about what bishops should do, and no threads about laity working to excommunicate proabortion politicians from office.

I believe it is by nature of him being Cardinal Prelate of NY. But either way, Bishop of Albany said Cuomo isn’t in his jurisdiction so he has no say in the matter
 
That’s my confusion. The New York archdiocese doesn’t cover all of New York State. It doesn’t even cover all of New York City. Brooklyn and Queens are in the dioceses Brooklyn. Cuomo lives in Albany.
 
Well Dolan has said he won’t excommunicate Cuomo and Bishop of Albany says he can’t because Cuomo isn’t in his jurisdiction.

Won’t sounds like Dolan can but chooses not to for the reasons discussed in this thread above by Matt Fradd. Perhaps because Dolan is a Cardinal

@F_Marturana I looked it up. It’s because Cuomo was born in NYC (presumably baptised there). Therefore, Dolan is his Bishop

God forbid I commit a terrible deed to warrant excommunication, Cardinal Dolan couldn’t excommunicate me. He’s not my Cardinal.

Someone is Cuomo’s Bishop. I don’t think it’s Dolan.

Need to be some universal truths around here:
  • Church almost never excommunicates anyone, anymore.
  • Excommunication is not enforced.
  • The hierarchy of the Church can’t be bothered with the matter. Listen to Dolan, whining that Cuomo’s “not in my diocese”. Then why not call the Bishop of the diocese Cuomo belongs to? Blood is one everyone’s hands on this.
 
Cuomo grew up in the Diocese of Brooklyn and graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School.

The Bishop of Brooklyn is Nicholas Anthony DiMarzio.

This Diocese is an Ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of NY. So it’s either DiMarzio or Dolan who has jurisdiction here
