One can also speculate why this seems to hold no weight with you whatsoever.
Perhaps because of a reason already stated about waiting more than a relatively short amount of time to make sure they’re canonizable.

So it was everyone else’s fault except his own?

So “a great relief”…in what way? That it was NEVER his fault but always the other guy’s?

Guess what…

Anyone who continually takes advantage of the Church that Jesus Christ built is guilty of lying to and cheating the ENTIRE FLOCK of Christ’s sheep. How about he concentrates on paying us back the money meant for the poor that he stole while he mooched off of us? Cuz no pervert ever ADVERTISES their intentions…

Unless of course they’re trying to infiltrate the public school system with tax dollars while doing their best to undermine the authority of the tax payers paying those taxes. But that is a different, albeit current, subject.

Ah yes, armchair Pope knowledge. How’s your papacy working for you these days? 😃
This does nothing to erase the pain of victims who should never have been such because of a pontiff who refused to believe multiple sources. If anything it speaks more to his lack of ability.

And if that includes sins that are also crimes, then go to the PROPER authorities to have these matters investigated and not holy men cuz they aren’t cops
Ugh that brings up the whole issue of why cops weren’t brought in and secrets were swept under the rug. Why money was paid and hush ups were common.

This does nothing to erase the pain of victims who should never have been such because of a pontiff who refused to believe multiple sources.
Again, were you floating around in his head at the time? No? Then you have no idea why he made the choices he did; and some very good reasons for them have been put forth already.
If anything it speaks more to his lack of ability.
Only to armchair Popes.

I was fine with the money paid to victims…

However, imo the rotters should start working to pay back the sheep…even if they have to do it from behind bars. And, not that they could, but they should try, because they took advantage of ALL of Christ’s one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church with their lies! They mooched off of us while committing those crimes! As far as I’m concerned they can beg Christ and their victims’ forgiveness from behind bars for the rest of their earthly lives, AND pay back the material poor our money was earmarked for, while they CREATED the poor in spirit by harming young people physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, medically, and SPIRITUALLY!

just my two cents here…

it seems to me that there is a huge problem in the fallen human race with the general topic of sexuality.

It causes so many to fall.

Yes, forgive, as even Saints need the Precious Blood of Christ!

I think it’s important that the Church should let the police deal with actual crimes, while itself dealing with non-criminal sins.

But I also think that some misdeeds which are presumed to be sins but not crimes are in fact crimes as well.

For example, when a man enters a seminary, he automatically says no to sex. Therefore anyone of either sex, whether lay or clerical, who makes a pass at that seminarian in the seminary is automatically guilty of unwanted sexual advances in the workplace/campus which is a fiorm of sexual harassment.

Jesus told His men to gird their loins…

And now someone is blaming the hierarchy? Did he put his intentions down on his resume to the priesthood? And if so, how come so many people are SHOCKED to find out that some (obviously not all) of the shepherds they trusted took advantage of the innocent?

Liars, cheaters, thieves, etc. USUALLY do not advertise and brag about their crimes to the general public just sayin’.

We are all sinners, and no, we don’t advertise our sins to others, do we? do we not keep our sins in the darkness of our broken souls? and then, with the grace of God, experience true contrition, confess, and strive to sin no more?

All men are guilty of sin.

We need a Savior!

ps-my apologies…I guess I don’t feel like beating up a Saint today.

Going now to pray for the world through the rosary.

God bless

There are two quite different issues. The crimes and the coverup.

The coverup is important because some of those involved may still be at large and may perpetuate the problem.

Just to be clear…

I did not read this report. I am just commenting on anyone who wants to point the finger of blame on JPII or any other holy men who had to deal with this problem in recent decades.

Hmm…

No one gets away with their crimes, whether they’re caught by the authorities or not.

Many people were effected by this, even those who never knew such a priest including myself. Because I know people who DID know such a priest, and just having to explain to their young children and teens who were not directly assaulted by him, as to why their Church and someone they loved and trusted was being arrested on tv, was very difficult for the parents/guardians who loved and trusted that false shepherd - who baptized them, married them, etc.
