McCarthy rips Pelosi, says Dems were 'preoccupied with impeachment instead of protecting this country'

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., blasted Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Tuesday night for being more concerned with impeaching President Trump earlier this year than preparing the U.S. to fight the coronavirus contagion.

“They were preoccupied with impeachment instead of protecting this country,” McCarthy said on “Hannity”. “That’s exactly the only thing they focused upon. And then you watch Nancy Pelosi, I watched her sit there and say those words, and it was very upsetting to me as an American, not as an elected official but as an American.”

McCarthy claimed that members of both parties had largely agreed on the parameters of the $2 trillion coronavirus aid package enacted last week before Pelosi “flew in” and “stopped the relief.”

I believe he is right. The Democrats seem to have this extreme obsession with doing anything they can to impede President Trump’s job, make his life difficult, or to simply slander him.
 
I think it is obscene they are focusing on politics at this time and still doing everything in their power to impede the president. He has enough to worry about
now.

Pelosi and Schumer and Obama should be ashamed of themselves.

That doesn’t have anything to do with the impeachment though.

The house wasn’t holding up the senate with impeachment when Mitch McConnell failed to act on the bipartisan pandemic preparedness bill that the congress passed almost unanimously in early 2019.

The distraction idea was earlier brought up by McConnell, who suggested that Trump was distracted and failed to give proper attention to COVID-19. Considered the amount of time Trump spent on golf courses and at political rallies during that period, it is the lamest of excuses.

You mean, the January when Trump said it was “totally under control?” In between his six golf trips and 5 campaign rallies? While Schumer was calling for HHS to declare a public health emergency so the CDC could access emergency funds?

The idea of McConnell as that the WH failure to act early was because it was distracted by impeachment., The record shows more distraction with gold and political rallies.

I am not sure what you think the Congress might have been doing on Corona virus in January. In fact, with 20/20 hindsight it is not clear.
 
While Americans have the unfortunate situation of a Democrat Party (and “news” media) that was too busy with their impeachment obsession during January (and for the last 3 years), Americans are blessed to have our courageous President Trump:

In an order issued Friday, federal officials announced that as of 5 p.m. Sunday, “Foreign nationals other than immediate family of U.S. citizens and permanent residents who have traveled in China in the last 14 days will be denied entry into United States.”
American citizens returning the U.S. from areas in China where they may have been exposed to the virus will be quarantined, while others coming from the rest of China will be screened for the virus.
Earlier Friday, officials said Americans who evacuated from Wuhan earlier in the week would be quarantined for up to 14 days at March Air Reserve Base in California — the first mandatory quarantine order in the U.S. in 50 years, according to NPR.

In case you haven’t noticed, the steps were not tough.
And tragically, they were terribly successful - as predicted at the the time. You might look at testimony on that matter in Congress on Feb 5 2020.
 
Dr. Anthony Fauci referenced Trump’s initial travel restriction targeting China:
“Yes, there’s no question that if we had not done that in a timely way, there would have been many more travel-related cases from China. And as you know, the outbreak that we’re having here in the country, these cases originated from travel-related cases that came from China — and then we had the issue in Washington state and what we’re seeing now in other states. So, coming from outside within was the thing that started it. So, I think [Trump’s travel restriction against flights from China] saved us a lot”.

It’s not just Democrats in the Senate who were ill-prepared. Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York State is the epicenter of coronavirus.


Several years ago, after learning that the Empire State’s stockpile of medical equipment had 16,000 fewer ventilators than the 18,000 New Yorkers would need in a severe pandemic, state public-health leaders came to a fork in the road.

They could have chosen to buy more ventilators to back up the supplies hospitals maintain. Instead, the health commissioner, Howard Zucker, assembled a task force for rationing the ventilators they already had.

In 2015, that task force came up with rules that will be imposed when ventilators run short. Patients assigned a red code will have highest access, and other patients will be assigned green, yellow or blue (the worst), depending on a “triage officer’s” decision.

In truth, a death officer. Let’s not sugar-coat it. It won’t be up to your own doctor.

Why is anybody worried about who to blame? Why do they have so much time on their hands that they can worry about blaming someone?

The back-up for local supplies had been the national stockpile.
In the midst of this crisis the Trump administration has taken a radically approach . The federal government is competing with the states for supplies, and. has literally changed the roles of the national stockpile.

The Trump administration on Friday changed its description of the Strategic National Stockpile on a government website after journalists noted that it contradicted a claim Jared Kushner had made about the program.

Kushner on Thursday evening offered a novel argument about the national stockpile. He said some states still had stockpiles that they hadn’t been employing for the coronavirus outbreak and that localities should go to them first. And then he suggested that the national stockpile wasn’t even meant for them.

“And the notion of the federal stockpile was it’s supposed to be our stockpile,” Kushner said. “It’s not supposed to be states’ stockpiles that they then use.”

As reporters quickly noted, that didn’t match with how the Department of Health and Human Services was describing the program. On its website, it said, “Strategic National Stockpile is the nation’s largest supply of life-saving pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for use in a public health emergency severe enough to cause local supplies to run out.” It continued to say, "When state, local, tribal, and territorial responders request federal assistance to support their response efforts, the stockpile ensures that the right medicines and supplies get to those who need them most during an emergency.”

That language suddenly disappeared from the site Friday morning, as journalist Laura Bassett noted, and was replaced with something de-emphasizing the size of the stockpile and its role in helping states. The new description cast it as a “short-term stopgap.”
