It is worse than Dems being preoccupied, they used the media to focus the nation on their impeachment snipe hunt, pushing the threat of pandemic below the fold.

According to Nancy Pelosi, impeachment didn’t slow down the CoronaVirus response because everybody knew about the problem.
During the Senate trial of President Trump, the President began fighting the spread of the virus, Senators were forced to act as the jury for the trial and couldn’t work on anything else, and Pelosi did nothing. So which one was it madam speaker? Did you ignore the issue, or are you incompetent?

Why is anybody worried about who to blame? Why do they have so much time on their hands that they can worry about blaming someone?

Work to fix it.
Finer words of wisdom were never spoken. What good does it do to be complaining and blaming? We don’t have time for that. We are in crisis mode.

Oh my goodness. Below the fold.
I guess that made it unfathomable.
I see you are prooftexting, and deflecting again
Nasty habit.

Do you not agree that the constant focus on impeachment deprioritized corona reporting? Mind you, we aren’t saying it wasn’t reported at all, just that it wasn’t a headline focus, you know what get’s everyone’s attention.

Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.

8454 deaths in the US - do we have a proportional reason yet?
Most of those are in New York. Yes, the death toll will rise.

Right now it is not constructive to sit around complaining. I am sure a year or two from now Frontline on PBS will have a program about it and give the story you
want to hear.

Tens of millions died in the pandemic from the Spanish flu a century ago.

This is a novel coronavirus. Hopefully, tens of millions will not die from this.

If China had been forthcoming with the world the end of November or even tne
end of December, many lives would have been saved.

New York was not prepared.

Spain, Italy, France, England were not prepared.

As I said, if China had been forthcoming with the rest of the world the end of last year as to how infections this virus was, perhaps the death toll might be lower.

This was not a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood or volcano.

This was an unseen enemy. We have been at war against a virus we did not know
and did not the impact it would have on different age groups. No one was
prepared.

It is time we pull up our pants, stop looking for someone to blame and deal
with it. That is the mature way to move forward.

The liberals have been complaining since November of 2016. It is not
constructive and has gotten them nowhere!

I do wish people would stop criticizing Pres. Trump for golf. It’s the only exercise he ever takes, and he is about 30 pounds overweight according to his doctor. He has a right, in fact, a responsibility–to take some R and R. In fact, I’m willing to bet he’s doing the same thing a lot of us are doing–grabbing junk food to snack on while he’s doing a lot of desk, online, and phone work–so the golf (his only physical activity!) is even more important.

And yes, I know, he rides a cart, so it’s not an awful lot of physical activity–but it’s still something out in the fresh air. Better than nothing.

Pres. Obama used to go play a little basketball, and Pres. Nixon used to bowl in the White House bowling alley. Pres. Bush (younger) jogged, and Pres. Clinton tried to jog, too (he’s better at it now that he’s changed his diet and lost so much weight).

These are men, human beings, and they need to take an occasional rest and do some physical exercise. We all do–I have been trying to take a daily walk in a park near my home.

And that walk is even more important now–even in the hospital where I work, inspite of all the extra work we are doing with COVID specimens, we still take breaks and a lunch, and we are still having occasional treats from kind-hearted companies and individuals (last Friday, Hershey’s sent ice cream treats to us with a thank you note!).

Stop criticizing something that is actually good.

I still see that you are unclear of the concept of proof-texting

But I have given my answer. The idea that the matter was de-prioritized in news reporting is of little or no consequence. Just a red herring.

It is easy in retrospect to think that we could have gotten off to a quick start of things in later November.
But at that point what was seen a case, then later a number of cases of a severe pneumonia-like lung disease. What was it? Was it novel? Was it like a cold, a flu, or MERS How was it transmitted?. None of this was known. By the end of December, however, the virus was identified, isolated, and sequenced. This work provided the knowledge needed for testing and for the start on the development of vaccines. By the end of January human-to-human spread, which has been suspected earlier, was confirmed. This was, in reality, great work.

Some countries were quick to act on this information. It was that quick action, that has been the key to saving lives.

  1. Pertinent to this thread, the idea that Trump was too busy with impeachment to pay attention to COVID-19 is belied by his schedule during that time, which showed ample time. It is not the golf per se but that lame excuse for his inattention to the looming pandemic.
  2. Trump criticized Obama repeatedly for golfing. Karma ia karma.

Of course, one would never find Obama on the golf course during his presidency.

. In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.

Still under the flu rate but…I don’t see mere impeachment, that was an attempt by some Democrats to overthrow a legitimately elected President.

Didn’t Mr. Trump say he wouldn’t have time to golf if he was President.

Indeed, this is not the time for partisan politics or grandstanding. Here in Canada, refreshingly, the opposition parties have all buried the hatchet and are working cooperatively with the government.

What a novelty, politicians behaving as responsible adults… it’s refreshing to see!

The United States was not prepared. We have typically depended on the federal government to provide emergency support in disasters such as hurricanes as a single state cannot necessarily prepare for the scope of the disaster. This is no different.
No, that has never been typically how it works, in the USA.

State and local govt provides first response to disasters.

FEMA is kinda a new thing, they roll in later with offers of money and maybe with trailers to act as longer term temp housing.

which country or which region of the US do you reside in?
