Funny, I thought this country had a jobs crisis. Maybe I’m mistaken and it’s just made up…Or are those toilets and floors to be cleaned for free? There are always plenty of toilets and/or floors that need scrubbed.

Sounds like you live on the moon, Daizies. Around here, our poor live in the lap of luxury - off the stolen wealth of hardworking people. On our planet, this travesty is what has supplanted the glory days of perfectly adequate Church-run charity. No offence, but how much money does your government give these people that they want to stay on welfare? Where I live, a single person on welfare would not even have enough money to be able to pay my rent, never mind live off of it. A person (or family) gets a basic amount, and then can supplement it through odd jobs or part time work up to a certain amount per month before it is deducted from their benefits. It is actually in a person’s best interest to get a job, even part time. Then they have subsidies to help those transitioning from welfare to work, to help pay medical costs which are covered under welfare, so the sudden increase in costs doesn’t put them back on welfare. Sure it’s not perfect, but it seems, to me at least, a little more compassionate.
Plenty of jobs, just no one willing to do them for what they are worth.Funny, I thought this country had a jobs crisis. Maybe I’m mistaken and it’s just made up…Or are those toilets and floors to be cleaned for free?

We are hurting for good workers.Plenty of jobs, just no one willing to do them for what they are worth.
Welfare is not meant for rent, that’s what HUD is for. Our foster kid’s mom lived on welfare her entire life. She was 30 years old and had never worked a day in her life. Her common law husband lived with her and occasionally worked when he couldn’t find stuff to steal. Eventually their dope habit got so bad the state finally took the kids away and sent the bio dad to prison. Her main complaint - her welfare was reduced when the children were taken away.No offence, but how much money does your government give these people that they want to stay on welfare? We are too. The key word being “good”, the type that show up every day and don’t quit after the withholding orders start. We are hurting for good workers.
Wow, tell that to the suffering in the Sudan and Africa’s Horn. What organization does more for the poor and human dignity than the Catholic Church?Sounds like you live on the moon, Daizies. Don’t forget EBT. That’s not included in welfare either. For some reason, people think aid should cover all cost of living. Aid is designed to supplement, help out.Welfare is not meant for rent, that’s what HUD is for. Our foster kid’s mom lived on welfare her entire life. Perfetly adequate Church-run charity? How did that work out during the Great Depression? None of the churches, from the Catholic to the fundamentalist were able to meet the needs of their congregants in those days. Glory Days indeed?!the glory days of perfectly adequate Church-run charity.
Man, that’s a huge issue for us too.We are too. The key word being “good”, the type that show up every day and don’t quit after the withholding orders start.
And with federal government spending trillions of dollars the same can be said today.Perfetly adequate Church-run charity? How did that work out during the Great Depression? None of the churches, from the Catholic to the fundamentalist were able to meet the needs of their congregants in those days. Glory Days indeed?!
Did I say the Church doesn’t help? You might want to check my signature.Wow, tell that to the suffering in the Sudan and Africa’s Horn. What organization does more for the poor and human dignity than the Catholic Church?
I was just being facetious Rich - sorry. I’m well aware of the historical facts but sometimes around here, we seem to prefer discussing fantasy.Perfetly adequate Church-run charity? The government also hasn’t been able to keep up with demand either. The poverty rate actually has gone up since 1965, especially among people of color.Did I say the Church doesn’t help? You might want to check my signature.
All I’m saying is that historically, the Church was not able to keep up with demand; that is only to be expected since the general population outnumbers the number of Catholics (or even practicing Christians) in this country.
Today’s Gospel was about seeking to remove the speck from another’s eye while ignoring the plank in your own.I was just being facetious Rich - sorry. I’m well aware of the historical facts but sometimes around here, we seem to prefer discussing fantasy.
Last week it was about fraternal correction.Today’s Gospel was about seeking to remove the speck from another’s eye while ignoring the plank in your own.
You may disagree with my argument, but calling those who disagree with you as discussing fantasy is most uncharitable and against forum rules.
I think I was being fraternal here.Last week it was about fraternal correction.![]()
Watch the beginning of the movie Idiocracy. The movie is stupid but the first 10 minutes show how we got the here and were it’s headed. Is it the amount of people or the welfare mentality that started breed generations of people feeling they are owed something…The was a time when we didn’t have millions who didn’t want to work. There was/is legitimate need out there…There are also those who don’t want to take anything beneath what they had so they will just take till it’s gone.
