Here is what radio talk-show host Michael Savage had to say on March 28 about the Catholic Church’s response to the immigration issue:
It is a pig story! It’s animal farm all over again. And also make no bones about it, it’s the greedy Catholic Church that was behind it because the people of America walked away from the molesters’ dens and they need to bring in people from the Third World who are still gullible enough to sit there and listen to the molesters…the Roman Catholic Church was behind this, the Roman Catholic Church started this a year ago. The Roman Catholic Church flooded the streets because they cannot get parishioners anymore amongst educated white people who have caught onto the racket and instead they need to import dummies to sit in the church pews. That’s the story and it is not difficult for you to understand—I’m telling you the truth. It’s all about greed. It’s greed at the top of the Catholic Church.
*Make no mistake about why this is happening. This has nothing to do with compassion for Mexican workers. This has nothing to do with fairness for Mexican workers—it has to do with the greed…. That’s all there is to it. And that includes the Catholic Church pigs. And if you don’t like it, don’t listen to the show—I really don’t care anymore. I’m not going to be duped by this sanctimonious garbage that all churches are good and that the institution itself is good. Bah humbug. The institution is rotten from the top to the bottom. *
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:
“I was scheduled to be on with Mike Savage the day he savaged the Catholic Church and made bigoted comments about Latinos. But in the pre-interview—which occurred just a half hour before Savage went ballistic—I let a producer know that I did not share the host’s position; after he checked with Savage, I was told they would not have me on the show. That was fine, but what is not fine is Savage’s diatribe about the ‘greedy pigs’ in the Catholic Church and how ‘the institution is rotten from the top to the bottom.’ He owes all Catholics an apology.”

Thanks for the info. I have sent a letter to my local radio station that broadcasts his show and to the local Catholic Diocese calling for a full boycott of that station by all Catholics in the area. It probably won’t go anywhere, but at least I feel I did something about it.

I sent an email to the VP of the local station that carries the show and informed him that I will be boycotting all programming and advertisers until Savage publicly apologizes. I’m not holding my breath, but I had to do it.
I read the transcript of what Savage said. Not good, even for him.

Thanks for the Chicago link, I just sent my complaint. However, I don’t want an apology. It would not be sincere. However, I will never even inadvertantly listen to even 5 minutes of Michael Savage again. When Michael Medved is done, I will switch right back to Catholic radio. Catholic radio is great, but I do like some variety. I like Medved’s historian outlook, and I like his reviews of movies.

That’s too bad, Bill Donohoe was a good guest on Savage. I’m pretty surprised he would go this far with his Catholic rant. I could handle his rants on the more “liberal” proponents of the Church, it was painful to have things exposed, but I believe he was speaking truth, but this is too much.

All these talk radio guys are a bunch of blowhards. Whether they are from the right or left. They have an agenda. They like to start fires. It is the Howard Stern Show with politics. Same “shock value”. Who cares.

Just a follow-up. Here is the response I received from a rep at my local broadcasting company that airs “Savage Nation”. I also received a response from my local Diocese and was told they have received other complains, but no words on any statements or actions.

I have never had a real problem with Michael Savage. He has been very supportive of the Catholic Church on many occasions. I haven’t listend to him much lately, because I am not in the car when he is on. He rants… oh yes he rants… about everything… liberals, and conservatives, ect. This isn’t right though. I have been thinking lately that something is wrong with him. He needs to take a long vacation. I don’t even think he likes his job anymore.

Michael Savage was taken off the talk radio station here that aired him every night for some reason, and I live in a pretty conservative area. But let me tell you something: I haven’t missed him one bit since he’s been off the air.
I used to listen to him, but as the days went on, he started to irritate me more and more. It became very clear that he was nothing more than a bigot with an over-inflated sense of self scream-ranting in a microphone with a toy poodle by his side.
If he weren’t a Jew, I’d believe he’d be a white nationalist. I mean, why not? Much of the same hatred, moronic paranoia, and idiocy comes comes out of his mouth.
So yeah. I wouldn’t necessarily stop listening to him because he bashed the Catholic Church. I’d just stop listening to him because there’s no use in subjecting yourself to so much hot air.

Not the first time Savage has attacked the Church. He likes to emphasize the ‘Institutional’ Church.
As for all of you posters praising Micheal Medved, perhaps you should listen to him more. See how you feel when you hear what he has to say concerning the Catholic Church and its doctrine at the time of the Reformation. How it was ‘rotten to the core and it needed to change its doctrine. Thank God for the Reformation’. This he said on 3/16. And he points out it’s the doctrine not the customs. But he has said it on a number of occasions. He also emphasizes that the Institutional Catholic Church and its doctrine was corrupt. Not just some of its members.
Medved was a consultant on the movie, ‘Luther’ and believes him to be an important ‘saviour’ of the Church.

Any respectable Catholic would have been offended at his rant. I turned it off and I wrote an email of complaint. I will never listen to him again even for a few minutes.
By the way(this is a message to a different poster) I do understand satire, and Michael’s words were not satire. I think you are deceiving yourself.

Absolutely! His name says it all! I listened to him for all of about 2 programs and couldn’t take it anymore. My husband and I kept looking at each other and saying, “Is this guy crazy?” I have never listened to him since. I happen to be a conservative who loves talk radio, political discourse, and good satire but Savage fits none of those categories. Whoever called him the ‘right’s Al Franken’ was dead on!
I’m a Limbaugh fan and I can’t take 5 minutes of Savage. I keep hoping that he will draw such a small audience that he’ll be taken off the air…but I guess ‘hatred spewed at a high volume’ is popular. It’s a shame.I never knew he was so anti-Catholic but then, I’m not surprised either!
