please stop being so dismissive and rude.
You know, your posts are tiresome. Early in our conversation, you said you wouldn’t “put your country before Christ” and that it would be “silly” to not support someone who…

You were being dismissive and rude, and now you want to take me to task? I haven’t spread calumny about a potential presidential candidate. Calumny is a more serious offense than rudeness in my books.

Regardless, there is an ignore feature on CAF. Feel free to use it on me, if you find my posts that offensive. My feelings won’t be hurt. I’m an adult, and I’m not as thin-skinned as some posters.

so then do not respond to me, but please allow me the chance to correct some things you have written. i never wrote that it was “silly not to support someone who”… the person that brought up silliness to begin with was YOU (see below, bold emphasis mine):
I honestly don’t have a problem with voting for someone, Democrat or Republican, who belongs to a Church with anti-Catholic beliefs. ** I think it would be silly for anyone to have a problem with that. ** I expect Protestants to be anti-Catholic…certainly anti-papacy! …
i used the word “silly” in response to your original statement.
i will not put my country before Christ. God comes first. i don’t think it’s silly to choose not to support someone who subscribes to this:
so what you wrote is false.

and as for the putting country before man comment, i tried to expand upon where i was coming from and you brought up your point and i again mine. what i wrote below is how i see it. i stand by it.
how so? if someone believes the Pope to be evil and believes they should resist him, and yet for some reason we support that person by putting he or she into a position of great power are we not putting God in the backseat?
no where did i make a personal attack against you like you have done to me.

i am not the one doing the insulting. please show me where i have libeled michelle, you or anyone on this forum for that matter? all i have done is provided online references and given my opinions on such.

You have insinuated by linking to attack articles about her that she is anti-Catholic. You’ve given nothing to directly support such a thing. That is defamation in my books. At a minimum, you are spreading gossip. You may consider it moral, but I don’t. I’m not sure that Bachmann is a good candidate for president, but I certainly won’t stoop to linking to yellow journalism and defaming her name.

so then do not respond to me.
I’m not the one whining and crying about being insulted. I will respond, as it is a forum. I merely pointed out the “ignore” feature because you complained about my posts. If you find me insulting, ignore me. It’s that simple. I’m going to continue to be direct about my opinions.

she admits to having belonged to that church. i think it is safe to assume that is a fact. cnn reported that she officially removed herself as a member, so that too is a fact. if you want to libel cnn and the other news sources by saying they didn’t check their facts regarding her ties to such associations then by all means take it up with them. i am not reporting gossip. these are actual news stories.

are you having a bad day?

Hi Peeps,
A thought from over the pond - the woman is THICK. Is this not is the lady that said she felt the same as John Wayne in a speech in her home town - not realising that the John Wayne born there wasn’t the movie star bur some mass murderer? You’ll find if you dig deep enough that the decision to leave her church wasn’t her’s but that of some advisor (spin doctor) who realised that the “Antichrist” thing wouldn’t look good on her CV if her church membership was current. We know about convenient church membership over here - Saint Tony Blair only converted to catholicism AFTER resigning as PM - so as not to rock the political boat. Law disbars catholics holding office as PM

by all means, be direct about your opinions on the issues i am bringing up, but please don’t resort to name calling. i didn’t complain about your posts, i just asked you to stop insulting me. geez. what am i missing here? 😦

I think every american supporting Bachmann needs to take a trip overseas in order to see the madness and how embarrassing she is. Democrats fearful of her? Maybe for her, but certainly not of her.

Yes, she confused John Wayne with John Wayne Gacy, neither were born in Waterloo (her birthplace) but only the mass murderer lived in Waterloo.

I must admit I am surprised that Bachmann is doing as well in polling as she is. But as the primary season wears on, I think other Republican candidates will begin to point out some of the extremist statements she has made over the years. At least I hope so. A Bachmann nomination would pretty much assure that President Obama would be re-elected.

Obama was loved overseas and has been an utter failure as a president. I don’t take overseas opinion into account much. All they know is what they are spoon fed by our media.

I think you may be right. Then again, Obama visited all 57 states when he was campaigning. 😛

Perhaps, as Bill Donohue recommends, Michele Bachmann would be wise to make a brief statement (as she already alluded to a few years ago) that she had no knowledge about her church’s views regarding Catholics and the Pope, just for the purpose of clearing the air of this distraction. After that, I would consider the whole incident a non-issue.

👍

But, until then, she’s guilty, right?

it is interesting that progressive Catholics have no problem not holding likes of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi to the teachings of their church but insist that Michele Bachmann’s membership of this church proves she supports everything it teaches.

Thanks, Bob. I was thinking the same thing, as I went to sleep last night and totally forgot when I woke up. Imagine progressives condemning Pelosi for her Church’s views on homosexuality and abortion. Pelosi’s been a Catholic a lot longer than Bachmann was at the Lutheran Church and has known the other obscure pastor who was brought up.

👍

Possibly guilty for some Catholics and others. It’s unfounded incidents like this that may derail a presidential candidate, so why let it fester? However, if Bachmann chooses to say nothing, that makes no difference to me since I realize many of those who charge her with possible anti-Catholic sentiments are just attempting to score political points and couldn’t care less about her views on the matter. (Others, however, such as Bill Donohue, may be sincerely concerned.) For myself, I don’t believe Bachmann is anti-Catholic, and there are plenty of other reasons I wouldn’t vote for her.

Well said! 👍

Well, I think this confirms my decision to leave Catholic Answers Forums for good. This thread is the proof that whatever a conservative does is acceptable, as long as they are a conservative, and that they don’t even deserve mild condemnation for it.

Please deactivate my account. I don’t think its possible to delete all my posts, but it would be nice if it was.

Let me interject: I’ve been to TUCC and I’ve heard Rev. Wright preach. Others have heard snippets. I kn ow personally members of Rev. Wright’s family.

He’s not a racist. He also served two tours in the Navy as a corpsman connected to the Marines and is by no means anti-American. He is very critical of some things which occurred in American history. I’m not alone in this view, either. Nationally known theologians (who are not members but have attended Trinity) have stated that the good reverend is no racist.

So, let’s not talk as if what some folks believe is a done deal. I realize that this is not the thread to discuss Rev. Wright but please do not use him as a stalking horse.
I served 15 years as a Navy Corpsman and 8 of those in direct support of the Marine Corps. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?
