modest pants

To the OP, I think your pants are very nice. They remind me of some styles I’ve seen in the muslim community I use to live near. Modest, but beautiful. I don’t wear pants a lot personally, but it’s just because I love skirts (I’ve always found them to be warmer in the winter, but that may be because I have some silk wrap skirts to wear underneath my cord or wool skirts, it definately makes a difference.
I also love wearing make-up, eye-make-up in particular. I like to make my eyes darker, and larger looking, I like the dramatic “flair” of eye liner. I don’t usually wear make-up on my face.
I don’t feel any sort of lack of confidence without make-up, though I remember having that feeling for a while when I was younger. I gave up make-up for Lent though, and that cured it 😉

Sometimes we can get a little wrapped up in what is and isn’t modest, it ends up sounding so legalistic - I’m thinking of a man who told me my shirt was immodest because it was about four inches below my collar-bone, instead of two. As I understand it, modesty is accomplished by sharing your beauty with the world, without “unveiling what should remain hidden”. The general outline of my figure, while attractive, is not immodest - I’m a woman, of course I have the outline of a woman; my exact measurements, however…shouldn’t be on display.

I’ve always disliked the “shapeless jumper” because it seems to indicate a desire to go beyond modesty and into a sense of shame about our bodies and their natural form. I’m sure there are pretty jumpers, I just don’t think I’ve seen any. 🤷

Blessed Lent,
Masha

Just a little anecdote…

DH goes to daily Mass… and there is a particular group of (what he assumes are) homeschooling mothers (a group) with several children, who all wear LONG skirts, LONG sleeves, and mantillas and come to Mass on each First Friday of the month.

Every time he sees them he calls me laughing… 2 of the mothers long skirts are completely see-through.

You know, sometimes “modesty” is in the eyes of the beholder. 😉

I think that people who think that pants on women are immodest are taking things way too far. Modest pants are always comfy.

I am married and I wear make-up about 80% of the time, not to attract my husband or anyone else, but it makes me feel more put together and I don’t look so tired when I look in the mirror; therefore, I feel better about myself, which in turn makes me more attractive to my husband!!! I’ll wear high heels too, not to show off, but if I have a dress that matches them and they are actually comfortable. In my lifetime, that has been exactly ONE pair of high heels. They have a closed toe and are very classy and I believe modest shoes.

Personally I think that if you are actually worrying about whether your clothing is modest and are not wearing things to show off, then you are dressing modestly. To over-worry is not good either and I don’t worry about people who say I should only wear dresses.

Ironic!

Hello,
we had this topic before, but i’d like to open a whole new thread to one special question:

do you think, a woman wearing pants is dressed modestly ? I myself love pants and wear them every day: They are comfortable, you can move without taking care of rising hems and you never need pantyhose anymore, sheer ankle-highs do it for me!

Find attached a photo of me in one of my favorite pants outfits; does anyone think, wearing pants this way could be immodest?

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/5snw-i.jpg

My own opinion is, pants in general are even more modest than skirts/dresses, because i don’t show leg in them!

I think the ones you are wearing are very modest, and thats the type I would wear. However, the skin tight jeans girls and women are wearing are not modest and they look
uncomfortable too (watch out for yeast infections in these). And, some wear these to church. I would say a skirt or dress would be more modest in that case, but some of them are also short and tight.

Someone (their mothers) should have told them how to dress and particularly how to dress for church.

And by the way, most of the stores don’t carry loose pants like yours, but cater to the teen age market.

Greetings from Europe !

I personally wear makeup to have confidence because I really hate my looks without it. It doesn’t always feel so modest to wear it, though. What feels modest is to be bare-faced, but if I go bare-faced, I have ZERO confidence.
If modesty means not drawing attention to one’s self, some of us need a little makeup in order to blend in and not look like the living dead. I am fair-skinned with sparse blond eyebrows and lashes, and if I don’t put on a little bit of eyeliner and Ultra-Brow, my eyes disappear behind my glasses. If I go out completely bare-faced, people are always asking me if I’m sick! I don’t paint myself up like a Las Vegas showgirl by any means, but I do like a bit of color to liven up my pale features. Moderation in all things, my friends! 🙂

As far as high heels are concerned, I avoid them simply for comfort reasons. As long as they are moderate in height and don’t look like something a streetwalker would wear, what’s the problem?

And to the O.P., I think your outfit looks fine! 👍

I know the feeling, at my new job is filled with beautiful women, and I have to keep up. So I get up at 4 am to blow out my hair (stupid wavy hair), put on makeup, put a business suit, and wear 3-4 inch heels (today they are 5 inches and red). 🙂 I get hit on a lot though. 😃 And when I get home, it’s all about the maintanence. If I were to dress differently, I would stand out in a bad way, you know? I don’t want to call attention to myself.

Denim jumpers? EWWW. 😛
First of all, wavy hair is not stupid (haha). I love my wavy/straight hair just the way it is 😃

I exclusively wear pants/jeans because I feel more comfortable and actually safer wearing them. Skin tight pants cause stretch marks, (not to mention immodest), so I do NOT wear them that way.

As for heels, I’d probably kill myself wearing them, and I do like wearing pretty shades of lip gloss that have SPF 15. Other than that, I wear powder also with sunscreen included.

You can embrace your femininity without trying to turn men on. Which, in most cases, because it is only natural, men will be attracted to you regardless.

P.S.- I also do not get the denim jumper look LOL

*I like your outfit too…perfectly modest and attractive. 🙂 I wear pants suits for work more than skirts…I like skirts very much, and when the weather gets very warm in Florida (it’s been chilly lately) I will wear knee length skirts…and sundresses with little sweaters. My dd is 13, and she wears jeans and tees a lot…she likes the faded ripped jeans…I can’t believe I PAY to have them look this way. I say, take a pair of jeans and rip ‘em up if you like this look…’‘mooommm, they’re not the same.’’ 😛 She does not wear them for church…but they are not immodest…oddly enough. I wouldn’t permit her to dress immodestly. She has never liked skirts, but she wears a dress now and again, if we go out for a nice dinner…she wore one to a wedding last year, but her style is tees, jeans, and a light hoodie. Always modest, I think.

I have noticed a type of jeans worn amongst the girls her age, they are very tight, and suppoedly the look. She doesn’t like them…and I think they are just too too tight, and they sit low on the hip so the girl’s belly shows a bit. My dd doesn’t like the look, but if she did…no bellies showing, she knows my thoughts on that.

But that outfit you are showing us is mah-velous. :)*

Ahh, I believe you would be talking about the skinny jean…cant stand them myself. I have a 14 y r old that dresses the same as your daughter…And I have to get her in a dress for upcoming functions at her catholic school. Its been a fight. But I think she is giving in to the fact that sometimes you just have to wear a dress. We are looking into pretty capris, but she doesnt like those either. Thankfully I havent had a problem with my girls wanting to dress immodest. Usually the only time I have a problem is in the summer. Its hard to find teen shorts that arent jacked up to you know where.

And not to derail…I love pants too and think that they are very modest. Again, depending on the type 🙂 No spandex over here:D

Before Vatican 11, we had to wear dresses to church. During the summer they had to have a sleeve, even if it was a cap sleeve! No strapless sun dresses. And hats!

I grew up in Cleveland in the 50’s and early 60’s and during the summer it was humid. It was horrible wearing stockings too because they just stuck to you and this was before panty house. And heels, of course.

It seemed silly then, but I think we went from one extreme to another. I don’t like dresses either and would much rather wear modest pants(shorts around the house during the summer) but it seems that the teens here wear a lot of low cut tops, tight pants, and even shorts to church during the summer.

Somewhere there has to be a happy medium. You don’t have to dress up when you attend church, but if you’re going to wear pants, wear an outfit like the one pictured or similar.

By the way, I love your outfit too. As for makeup, I only wear lipstick, but I was blessed with a nice complexion and since I’m a senior, many of the products just emphasize your wrinkles, and I’m not ashamed of mine.

It could be said that it is a responsibility to look our best for others just to make their day more pleasant. If that takes make-up and high heels to accomplish it, so be it. If your priest is not comfortable with women in pants (for whatever personal reason), don’t wear them to Mass - this is a no-brainer - just honor him and die to self. If you are married you probably already know your husband’s take - no brainer - honor him and die to self. If you are single, do what you want - God will convict you if you’ve crossed the line. It reminds me of a woman that kept pulling her knit top up while in church…she may have thought it OK while at home but unconsciously kept tugging at it, especially in the presence of the priest! The OP’s outfit is really pretty but I would not wear it to church only because I would want my priest’s full attention on the Mass, not thinking, “why won’t the women dress like women?”. Bottom line: I want him focused and happy at Mass so he can experience the full joy of it, too. If I can do this one little thing that makes him comfortable, why wouldn’t I? Do I wear pants? Yes! I was “born” in jeans! Do I wear them in church? No.

*Yes–that’s the name…skinny jeans…thank goodness my dd doesn’t like these…even if she did, the answer would be no…but I see girls (and some guys :ehh:) wearing them at her school, and they look eh, ok…just too tight, to me. It’s odd when I see teen boys wearing them… *

In windy Seattle, wavy hair gets blown around and gets really tangled and frizzy, so I have flatiron it every day. And it still bounces back by 1 pm, grr.

I don’t wear super tight pants, mostly because they look stupid on me. I prefer to wear skirts with heels, they make feel so pretty. Plus, they emphasize my legs and the chest (God blessed me abundantly there). And strutting in heels is fun. You can’t strut in flats. 😛
So I will suffer to look good for men. I’m single, and I need every advantage I can get over the younger single women.

So true… I’d be miserable in a dress and heals every Sunday.

a young lady living in our street allowed me to post her “before” and “after” photos here; she came from ukraine to germany 2 years ago; she was used to wear short dress every day back then, generously showing her legs:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/5snw-m.jpg

in her home it seems to be common practice for a woman to wear skirt or dress - and usually the hem line hardly reaches the knee…my neighbour unthoughtfully continued this habit after moving to germany 2008;

after we had made friends with each other, i attended her to a shopping tour in the city; i advised her acquire a basic equipment of a few cute pair of pants in different colors; this suggestion produced a fundamental change in her clothing habits; she promptly assumed my habit of wearing pants on a daily basis and soon realized the advantages:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/5snw-n.jpg

some weeks later we discoverd during a conversation, that both of us don’t possess one single pair pantyhose anymore! meanwhile she accepted the modesty point too; she feels better now covering her legs than revealing them!

do you agree that she looks better now after changing her clothing habit?

greetings from germany !

I like the dress, just not for work…it’s too short to be professional…but out for dinner with one’s spouse, wouldn’t be bad. I love the pants outfit in the second pic. Thanks for sharing…

high-heels and make-up are usually worn to attract the opposite sex; thats why i skipped both items some years agao for modesty reasons; would you/do you allow your dd to wear high-heels and make-up ??
…and Mother Angelica, when asked about women wearing make-up, said “that for some women, it was an act of charity”!!! I love it because I happen to be one of those women!

I don’t wear make-up to attract the opposite sex…I wear it to prevent either sex from being scared! Seriously though, it hides imperfections that make me feel uncomfortable about myself…

These threads get ugly fast.

A prize for the first person who says that Mary did not wear slacks
…and Our Lord and His Apostles did not either! So those that feel the need to comment about Our Blessed Mother better have a husband and sons wearing flowing robes or togas or if they are male and responding, they had better be wearing something akin to that! 😉

Pants can be immodest. Many men have said they draw a line that leads right up to… You get picture.
Longer tops that stop that line lower down are useful.

Agree with the longer tops…but “many men” need to get control of themselves and quit blaming women for their own choice to “not have custody over their eyes”🙂

I didn’t say anything about blame. Women should want to be helping their brothers get custody of their eyes.🙂
