I’m just following your logic.
um no. I am talking about immodest swimsuits and you have gone past the original posters question about some swimsuits being immodest.

God bless.

You also talked about women thinking about what they wear in the morning. Doesn’t that go beyond swimsuits?

Hello Denise.

Listen to St. Paul’s messages below concerning what was relevant in his time - “eating meat” offensive to a brother - and translate to this issue: “wearing clothes” offensive to a brother, which would cause him to stumble:
Rom 14:13 Then let us no more pass judgment on one another, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
Rom 14:14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but it is unclean for any one who thinks it unclean.
Rom 14:15 If your brother is being injured by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not let what you eat cause the ruin of one for whom Christ died.
Rom 14:16 So do not let your good be spoken of as evil.

Rom 14:20 Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for any one to make others fall by what he eats;
And related:
1Co 8:10 For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol’s temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?
1Co 8:11 And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.
1Co 8:12 Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
1Co 8:13 Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother’s falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.
The difference is radical - but Christian - to gladly suffer inconvenience or worse, rather than to cause a “weak” brother to fall to sin. Christ died for that brother! Would I say, “Well, his weakness is his problem, not mine!” - when my Lord and Christ died for him.

Yes, we ARE our brother’s keeper. Pray about it.

I only said that because you asked a related question.

I am bowing out now as I believe this conversation has drifted away from the original question and the only other thing that I would add is that we all have to answer for our actions some day and we will be responsible if we cause another person to sin.

God bless.

defining these terms for world wise usage, only within my argument.
  • Beautiful / handsome : attractive in a chaste way.
  • Sexy : attractive in an unchaste way.
You’re starting off from a false premise. Those categories are not mutually exclusive. A woman can be:
• Beautiful but not sexy
• Sexy but not beautiful
• Both beautiful and sexy
• Neither beautiful nor sexy

Not to mention that every man would have his own opinion as to which category a woman falls into.

Male, too, I presume.
My wife says the last thing she wants to see when she drives into our neighborhood is one of the guys, flabby, hairy, sweaty, working shirtless in his yard.

I don’t think anyone wants to see that either.

Allegedly, Padre Pio thought all women wearing trousers, or a sleeve that didn’t come down below the elbow, were indecently dressed. This would mean that 75 percent of women, including many over age 65, whom I see at Mass on any given day are immodestly dressed. It would mean that we have canonized several female saints who appeared in public on a regular basis dressed immodestly.

It may have made perfect sense during Padre Pio’s time when clothing standards for women were different. It does not make sense today.
Especially with global warming. 😁

No, not exactly. The point is that a 13 year old boy is a bundle of hormones and it may not make any
13 year old boy? How about a 23 year old, or a 43 year old? I can’t vouch for 53 year olds, because I’ve got a few months to go. But a 52 year old still notices and he can tell you that an attractive woman is an attractive woman. Why, for about 25 minutes once I fell deeply in love with a dental hygienist who was wearing scrubs and a mask. She had the most alluring eyes I’d ever seen.

Padre Pio who died in 1968 even refused hearing confession of those women who wore immodest dress
Hmm. 1968. Not quite 100 years ago and not too different of a culture as has been implied by some of the posts.
Aren’t all good christians called to follow saints example and become another?
Absolutely.
You’re hardly a “little one” if you’re big enough to be feeling lust when you look at a woman in a swimsuit.
Jesus was referring to those who believe in Him, , the faithful, not just children.
woman appropriately dressed for swimming,
Isn’t this the key or the answer to the OP question, women appropriately dressed.

Who knows what Padre Pio approves of?

He is not the Magisterium and so people may be inspired by him but should look to the Church for matters of faith.
I just think it’s strange that many people do seem to love him and follow his advice, except about immodest dressing, which he did seem to bring up at least a few times.

From the Catechism:

[2525] Christian purity requires a purification of the social climate . It requires of the communications media that their presentations show concern for respect and restraint. Purity of heart brings freedom from widespread eroticism and avoids entertainment inclined to voyeurism and illusion.

[2526] So called moral permissiveness rests on an erroneous conception of human freedom; the necessary precondition for the development of true freedom is to let oneself be educated in the moral law. Those in charge of education can reasonably be expected to give young people instruction respectful of the truth, the qualities of the heart, and the moral and spiritual dignity of man.

[2527] "The Good News of Christ continually renews the life and culture of fallen man; it combats and removes the error and evil which flow from the ever-present attraction of sin. It never ceases to purify and elevate the morality of peoples. It takes the spiritual qualities and endowments of every age and nation, and with supernatural riches it causes them to blossom, as it were, from within; it fortifies, completes, and restores them in Christ."316

IN BRIEF

2528
“Everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” ( Mt 5:28).

2529 The ninth commandment warns against lust or carnal concupiscence.

2530 The struggle against carnal lust involves purifying the heart and practicing temperance.

2531 Purity of heart will enable us to see God: it enables us even now to see things according to God.

2532 Purification of the heart demands prayer, the practice of chastity, purity of intention and of vision.

2533 Purity of heart requires the modesty which is patience, decency, and discretion. Modesty protects the intimate center of the person.
