You hit the nail right on the head. Hannity gets a pass from many here because they like him. They sit there in front of their TV’s and watch him bully some liberal politician or liberal activst and cheer him on.
John Kerry would get the same treatment. Ted Kennedy would get the same treatment. I personally, have been seen as defending Mr. Hannity because I personally disagreed to in what manner Fr. Tom spoke. I do like Mr. Hannity but care must be taken when trying to bring Catholics back into the fullness of Truth. I think Fr. Tom was completely out of line to say he would deny Mr. Hannity communion a better response, “I would discuss that with you in private or that is not my decision, I am not your ordinary.” I know Mr. Hannity was rude and wrong and I don’t think any Catholic with a opinion similarly to mine defends that.I wonder if Chris Matthews, also a baptized Catholic, would get the same treatment as Hannity? Would the same people who are excusing Hannity also excuse Matthews? I doubt it very much.
The Parisees were condmened for being hypocrites, not because they had the seat of authority. Christ said to the people to do exactly as they tell you to do, but do not do as they do.You fail to see the problem here that Jesus clearly rebuked and which Paul did not repeat. The Pharisees called out individuals for sins in a public forum and declared them heretics sinners and publically condemned them many times to death. Jesus spoke out against these tactics and counciled such persons indivudually and in private. Jesus and Paul were not shy to condemn sin and by all means artificial birth control is a sin. But they did not call out you lowly sinner Sean Hannity are a heretic and know nothing and not worthy of the catholic religion and I don’t want you in my church. No my friend this is the attitude of the Pharisee of which you have bought into. Judging indiviudals in a public forum was not the tactic of Jesus but since you think Fr Euteneuer trumps the teachins of Jesus and John Paul II and POpe Benedict by all means support this rouge priest and his un-Christ like tactics.
And please your sola scriptura like insertion of the players in this controversy is embarassingly protestant.
Well that is the difference, I and many other Practicing Catholics believe he said exactly the right thing. It is about time that Our Priests and bishops started to step up to the plate and let the liberal and dissenting Catholics know they are wrong. Perhaps then The Church will get stronger and Cafeteria Catholics will embrace their faith more. Heaven knows the other way keeping their mouths shut has not worked. Furthermore Hannity asked that question knowing exactly what Fr’s answer would be, otherwise he never would have asked it. That is the kind of Catholic that is projecting Our faith to millions of viewers every day via TV real comforting.I think Fr. Tom was completely out of line to say he would deny Mr. Hannity communion
He did not judge Hannity’s soul. He judged his words. Objectively, Hannity rejected the authority of the Church. How culpable he is is not our concern. What is of concern is how his erroneous words influence others to hold the same wrong position and perhaps engage in these actions.Mr. Hannity is still my favorite personality on TV. Do I disagree with what he had to say? Yes. Do I think Father Euteneur was being somewhat hipocritical? Yes. While Mr. Hannity should take SERIOUS time in researching this issue, Fr. should also not be judging people. Mr. Hannity did make a good point that about judging. I think attacking him while yes it should be pointed out, was not right when there are so many other Catholics out there who skew the truth far worse than Mr. Hannity.
Well it is a difference and I can respect it. I appreciate that many practicing Catholics have different point of views on certain things, the pews in Church are wide. So there will be people that agree and disagree. Silence is not the best policy. I don’t think Mr. Hannity believed he knew the answer. He asked it because to grow off Mr. Colmes question to whether Mr. Hannity would be welcome at Fr. Tom’s Church.Well that is the difference, I and many other Practicing Catholics believe he said exactly the right thing. Goes beyond worry for Hannity’s own soul… You find something wrong with that statement? Apparently it is a big deal for Fr Tom…Well yes it would seem so that is why he has tried to discuss this issue with Hannity since 2004 (privately) with no results… I would think the saving of millions of souls would be a big deal especially to a Priest. This apparently is a really big deal for Fr. Tom, that even he said goes beyond worry for Hanity’s own soul. But I don’t see where Hanity is using his large platform to deliberately mislead Catholics, to the extent that “millions of souls are potentially led astray by a man with that kind of platform” as Fr. Tom wrote today. I applaud Fr. Tom’s orthodoxy, and his zeal for our faith, but is this the appropriate battleground? I think he gives Sean way too much credit for damaging the Church.
…and the pews are often all too empty …not all opinions are equal just as not all Catholics are equal.Well it is a difference and I can respect it. I appreciate that many practicing Catholics have different point of views on certain things, the pews in Church are wide.
I likewise find is totally amazing that any Catholic worth their sand would have a bone of contention with the manner of presentation of the faith made by Fr. Euteneuer to Sean Hannity.I don’t think Mr. Hannity believed he knew the answer. He asked it because to grow off Mr. Colmes question to whether Mr. Hannity would be welcome at Fr. Tom’s Church.
I appreciate all insults and the degrading of my faith and other’s faith. May God Bless us both as we continue to both journey in our faith.I likewise find is totally amazing that any Catholic worth their sand would have a bone of contention with the manner of presentation of the faith made by Fr. Euteneuer to Sean Hannity.
Sean Hannity knows full well the Church’s stance on anyone supporting abortion and birth control recieving Holy Comminion. He had even made comments at earlier times about how the Church might deny him because of his stance on ABC. So he knew full well what Fr E.s answer would be. Hannity’s full reason for bringing Fr on that show was to humiliate him and truthfully I feel sorry for him and he needs our prayers.I don’t think Mr. Hannity believed he knew the answer. He asked it because to grow off Mr. Colmes question to whether Mr. Hannity would be welcome at Fr. Tom’s Church.
That I agree with and we constantly should pray that God may open the hearts of all people to His grace and counsel.he needs our prayers.
How does encouraging one to walk ion the fullness and faithfulness of one’s Catholic faith equate with degrading the faith? …this is all but an act of mercy. How many self-deluded or obstinate Catholics will die this day to meet their Creator.I appreciate all insults and the degrading of my faith and other’s faith. May God Bless us both as we continue to both journey in our faith.
No one is insulting or degrading your faith, relax, we simply disagree. The fact that I find it amazing that you think Fr E was wrong well DUH shoot me.I appreciate all insults and the degrading of my faith and other’s faith. May God Bless us both as we continue to both journey in our faith.
My above quoted comment is meant more as a brotherly challenge, as in iron sharpens iron, fellow warriors in the daily battle against the “powers” and “principalities” of this present darkness, where the Enemy seeks to exploit weakness and vulnerability to immobilize and lead souls to hell.Well, I find this comment, “I likewise find is totally amazing that any Catholic worth their sand would have a bone of contention with the manner of presentation of the faith made by Fr. Euteneuer to Sean Hannity.” To be somewhat of a implied insult. To say this and myself, I do have a bone in how Fr. Euteneuer spoke, I am not much of a Catholic with much substance. I may have erred in my interpretation but that is how I understood it.
Oh for crying out loud! that is not what I meant when I said DUH!To say it is obvious to you and for those that disagree, is just “duh” can also be seen as an insult to say that others are just plain dumb for not reaching your conclusion.
So what people are just disagreeing, don’t take things so personal. No one is attacking you. Also in the other thread, it was accused that there are people who are republican first and Catholic second. Again, a knock to those who have a bone to pick with Father Eueneuer’s methods. So I have seen this since I first entered this discussion and because of this I was prompted to say exactly what I said.
I am not but it merely as been, as it seems, uncharitable accusations across the board and implications of such things that I don’t feel should be a part of a discussion among Catholic peoples…don’t take things so personal
