How is the point relevant? The fact that this story about a kids football game has grown to a 10 page thread on a forum concerning our shared faith would seem to indicate that this is about more than the stated issue. I think it might be helpful to question the “equality/sameness” dualism which is being employed at various points in this thread. Perhaps people could reflect on how this dualism can be used with integrity and, on the other hand, how it can be used as a way to maintain a preferred status quo.

It’s actually a pretty good answer; I just see the questions in a broader context.

I think 10 pages is enough on this topic so I’m checking out. Best wishes to all and maybe we’ll meet again in another thread. 👋
 
I’d want to know why the girl wants to play football - and certainly if she is physically capable to hold her own.

If she meets that criteria and gives a sound answer, then obviously many logistics would have to be worked out.

Locker rooms? She’d need her own.

Coaches? She’d probably need female ones too.

Would it be better to have her organize a female football league?

Most importantly, it would also probably be prudent to have a spritual advisor working with her to make sure that she is not doing it to attack Femininity or Masculinity. Is she spiritually well developed? Would she be willing to discuss the Goods of the church in the context of her sport? She could be a powerful witness if so.

You gave no specific answer. The issue here is why does anyone of either gender need to challenge these gender specific sports team? So far I have seen people make this as some issue about equality and justice simply because this person wants what she wants.

Well, the articles that have been posted said she is capable of holding her own against boys. Why does she want to play? Probably because she has fun doing it, the same reason most kids play sports.

Co-ed teams in sports and other activities figured out how to make this work years ago. Co-ed cheerleading teams for example. Or travelling marching bands.

There are a lot of male coaches in women’s sports. Very few people seem to object to this.

How can an 11 year old girl organize a multi-team sports league?

Attacking Femininity or Masculinity? Discussing the goods of the church? I hate to keep harping on this, but SHE’S 11! She wants to play a game and have fun!

Ah - there seems to be a disconnect. I was under the impression that she was in high school and didn’t realize she is only 11. That obviously changes how the situation would be handled quite dramatically.

Then why doesn’t she play soccer? That can be a rough and tumble game and it has more action than football and she’d be able to go on and play in high school and college. My son played little league baseball with one girl on his team. The kids were right around this age, and the girl was a good player. But she got a lot of attention for playing on an all boys team. I have to wonder if that is what this girl is after.

If people (two, only two here who belong on huffington post rather than CF) are being (the typical 3 P’s) so petty, pedantic and pathetic … that they need a ridiculous amount of proof and evidence that boys and girls are different, good luck in life! Good luck with a spouse, with interpretations of sexuality, femininity, masculinity and much, MUCH more. 🙂 Maybe check out Theology of The Body. Good reading!! 😃

Go ahead, pick it all apart … but one day you will have to put it all back together again, and when you realize the disheveled puzzle pieces won’t force into a uniform picture… you will learn what is what. 👍

I don’t know why I have to keep bringing this up, but the girl in question is ELEVEN YEARS OLD! If the school hadn’t made a big stink about this, you would have never even heard of it. So don’t compare this girl to someone who just after attention.

Perhaps you should reread the article in order to get a more correct understanding of which party actually “made a big stink about this.” I don’t remember anything about the school starting an online petition at change.org, or sending a rep to appear on a TV talk show, or going to the media before contacting the archbishop.
