'More than able to hold her own,' girl gets boot from Catholic football league

Heaven forbid we should make an distinctions based on gender. Oh the horror. It must mean females are inferior and males are superior. That is the only conclusion we can draw from this evil decision. It is about oppression. Men and women are exactly the same. Like cogs in a machine. Totally interchangeable. These gender constructs are made by men to enslave women. We all know there is no differences except what society makes up. Mean old Church. How dare they!
Gender equality will only be achieved when all leagues based on gender are abolished in favor of open tryouts.

Just take the best athletes in each sport.

Of course, I don’t that anyone who supports this girl’s right to play sports actually wants that…

This IS however the only chance at giving people the same chance. If we are going to have one coed football team, so be it, but the best thing to do would be to have one swim team, one field hockey team, one baseball team, one softbal team, and so forth.

Maybe you need to stop worrying about the world expects of you and start worrying about what God expects of you.

You know what? If some boy is emasculated because he gets beat by girl, then he’s got serious issues already. And it’s not that girl’s responsibility to make sure he grows up secure in his manhood.

Oh, and as for “womanhood” never being taken away, that is such bull it makes my ears burn. Women are judged CONSTANTLY and have to live up to unbelievably high standards to be seen as a “real” woman! You can’t be too fat, because no one like a fat girl. You can’t be too thin either because no man wants a girl with the body of a 12 year old boy. If you wear tight clothes, you’re a slut. Wearing makeup, then you’re just trying to impress someone. Don’t wear makeup, then you don’t care about yourself. If you wear frumpy clothes, you’re a prude. If you talk too much, you’re a flirt. Talk to little, and you’re stuck up. If you’re vocal about your opinions, you’re a b****. Keep your opinions to yourself, then you’re a dumb girl. Don’t have a boyfriend or a husband, then you’re a lesbian. Married? Then why don’t you have kids? Go look at all the threads in on the family and parenting boards and see all the women who don’t feel complete because they are infertile. How much of that is because they hear everyday how you HAVE have kids to be a “real” woman.
You chatise high school boys for being insecure about being judged, then proceed to rant about being judged and hard it is?

Regardless of the issues people in this thread have, rmember we are talking about children, even in high school. We should expect much and have high standards for them, but some of these posts reek of using angst from our own situations and holding it against children in schools.

They are not adults yet, and while it sounds great to just tell them “ignore the naysayers,” that simply will not work every time.

I think embracing the unqiue differences between men and women as God created them and teaching our youuth about how we each compliment one another is far more valuable than teaching a more ego-driven “I can do anything you can!” That is simply society talking. God doesn;t care about how much we accomplish. He cares about how much we try to serve Him to the best of our abilities and talents, and how we liveour roles our lives as He created us.

It’s got nothing to do with feminism.
It’s about being fair among students and athletes.
As far as I can tell, they don’t have a female football team. Are they not allowing this girl to play just because it’s a “contact” sport? But…why and who decided the girls are not allowed to play a contact sport? She’s obviously physically* able* to do it. I loved playing football when I was young and played it with my brothers and other girls all the time.

It’s got nothing to do with being the same or different in gender.
She’s good at a sport, she’s better than most of the boys on the team, therefore she should play.
It’s not as though she’s asking to have a sex-change operation for heaven’s sake.
It’s SPORTS!

These are old, antiquated rules that should have been updated decades ago!
Sure, maybe some girls are content to be cheerleaders, or play “softer” sports like…badminton. But GOD gave some girls fantastic athletic ability and strength and agility and this girl excels and loves this sport and it makes no sense whatsoever to not let her play.

Perhaps those in charge just don’t like to see a girl being better at something than a boy.
I think in some cases (like mine), it is an attempt to salvage female sports before you eliminate them completely. Speaking as a father of a baby girl, this sort of thing is only going to hurt women.

The WBNA is a joke. No one watches, no one cares. By all rights, they should have folded around 1999. They are propped up by revenue from the NBA, but cannot sustain themselves. Is that fair? Of course not, but the NBA does it to throw a bone to female basketball players and does os in an attempt tp popularize a flagging sport. The LPGA forbids men from competing with women, but the PGA does not forbid women from competing with men. So in essence, female golfers have tice the opportunity to play professionally as men do. Fair? Hardly. So is fairness is your goal, you are missing it.

The natural extension of these concepts is to simply coalesce the teams and let the best players compete, 95% of which will be males. And that does nothing to help women at any level.

If we want to agree that women should be able to compete with men, so be it - I can see the theory, but just be prepared that the theory then makes it impossible to segregate athletes in sports any longer, and in nearly every case at a professional level, women will not longer compete, since there will be only one coed, professional league. WTA tennis is gone. LPGA is gone. WNBA is gone. Olympic sports get cut in half.

NASCAR integrated, but didn’t have a mainstream female equivalent, so no one was really hurt.

Getting rid of the WTA, WNBA, and LPGA will hurt a lot of women and hopeful young girls.

I can’t seem to open this article. Anyone else having the same problem?
I can’t either, but that’s because I don’t bother clicking articles about gender integration any more. Tiresome, and fulled out one-sided platitudes from its proponents who do’t really want fairness.

It’s a bunch of kids playing a silly little game.
To you, sure.

I am sure some people think real estate staging to be a waste of time. So what? If I evaluated on children’s hobbies based on my interests, I’d eliminate the color pink, forbid all “kitties”, and ban all tears in the house.

It is apparently important to some children’s development, important enough for a father to whine about his daughter’s involvement.

If you break any activity down into its constituant parts, it becomes less than the sum of those parts. The gestaltism of sports, scouting, music, art, and the like is that there are valuable lessons we can teach our children beyond the simply steps that make up the act itself.

Amen. We ought to stop worshiping sameness.
Slave → master
Religious → atheist
Boss → employee
Politician → citizen
White → black (in the West)
Male → female

It’s always easier to accept that line of thinking when you get to be in the dominant group. When you’re the one who is dominated, it’s not as much fun!

So…you’re comparing women AND employees to slaves?

Kind of makes it difficult to take your position seriously. Like, at all.

Oh, and to jimcav, I work for a real estate agency. Most of my job involves staging houses to be shown to clients. That means moving around heavy furniture all day. None of the guys I work with would ever say that they have to pick up slack for me or that I get the “easy” jobs. And they wouldn’t dare say that I and crude, rude or coarse. They don’t treat me like “one of the guys,” they treat me like a co-worker. Oh, and to say I didn’t have to earn my position? That’s total bunk. I spent twice as long on a probation period as any of my co-workers did. (It wasn’t until I got a new supervisor, who is a man, btw, that I even learned about that.) Why did I take the job? Because they work with my school schedule. I’m not out to prove anything. I’m not out to compete with a man. It’s because it’s practical. And if a man feels “emasculated” because of that, well, too bad.
You are a woman, so you are inferior!!! Stop confusing me with the facts!!!😃

Any kind of dominant position, pick whichever ones you like.

If you prefer boss to employee or politician to citizen, then go with those.

For me, it’s kind of difficult to take the opposite position seriously just because this is the 21st century and we now know that women aren’t inferior beings. Anyone that wants to go ahead and join us in the 21st century is welcome!

So…priests are better than the laity? Teachers are better than their students?

What hooey.

If ANYONE on this thread was claiming that women are inferior to men, I could agree with you.

Difference does NOT equal inferiority. Men are not inferior to women just because we can’t have babies. Women are not inferior to men just because they’d be smashed all over a football field.

Not better so to speak, I never used the word better. (By the by, so it’s clear: you are saying that men are better than women?)

The words I actually used were dominant position/dominant group.

As to your teacher/student, priest/laity comment: there are positions of valid authority to be had. “I have a penis and you don’t!” isn’t one of them.

Not true of this girl. Why does that bother you?

So male >female?
1: Yes, males have traditionally been in a position of dominance vis-a-vis women.

2: That is an unjust position.

3: You wish to retain this position. Why? Probably because it is convenient for you, as you get to be the dominant, not the dominated.

A man cannot give birth. He is inferior. Stop confusing me with facts.
This is a biological fact, just like it is a biological fact that only men can impregnate women.

Here are a few things that are not biological facts:

1: That all men are stronger than all women.
2: That all men are more intelligent or capable than all women.
3: That all woman who have a job are not entitled to it, because a man can do it better.
4: That women should not be able to make the decisions about their own lives. (Invalid value statement, not biology.)

I do not see that is true. Male and female are different and not just physically. Are you a physicalist?

You want sameness because it makes you feel better? Are we mere cogs in a machine interchangeable at will?

What has this to do with children playing sports? Must male and female be raised unisex? Is that it? You are a physicalist?

No, I don’t think one gender is intrinsically better than the other, all around.
The words I actually used were dominant position/dominant group.
So? Explain the difference, please.
As to your teacher/student, priest/laity comment: there are positions of valid authority to be had. "I have a penis and you don’t!" isn’t one of them.
No-one ever said it was. Hyperbole is not your friend, and it’s just making your posts sound a little manic.
Not true of this girl. Why does that bother you?
Not true yet. Do you think she’ll grow up to have the same strength and muscle mass as a guy? Which one do you think is more likely? Further, do you think muscle mass and strength are the only factors to consider?

  1. But the vast majority are.
  2. No-one said anything about intelligence. Calm down.
  3. No-one said anything about job equality. Calm down.
  4. No-one said anything about women making decisions for their own lives (though if that’s a jab at abortion rights, there’s the life of the child to consider). Calm down.
Seriously. Calm down.
