Brave director criticises Disney's 'sexualised' Princess Merida redesign | Movies | The Guardian This sort of thing is why I don’t buy into the House of Mouse
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)It’s because women generally aren’t naturally attracted to those subjects
I’ve mentioned their animated movies already, but I’m struggling to think of one of their recent animated movies where this holds.Female Disney characters used to be feminine and now they’re feminist …The second is forced, bitter, vengeful, and anti-family.
You know, feminist used to mean concerned with fair treatment of women and opposition to sex-based discrimination. Equal pay for equal work; don’t deny woman promotions they’re qualified for. That kind of thing.Female Disney characters used to be feminine and now they’re feminist. Big difference. The first is natural, strong, beautiful, and complements the family. The second is forced, bitter, vengeful, and anti-family.
Didn’t they use to say that there were so few black doctors, lawyers and such because not many black men were interested in being professionals?ZMystiCat:
It’s because women generally aren’t naturally attracted to those subjects, just like men aren’t generally excited about teaching 3rd graders or being NICU nurses. As someone who has worked at both Google and Microsoft, it’s not uncommon to have a team of 6 - 12 engineers who are all male or only have one female employee.
Well, those points I would agree with. But unfortunately, modern feminism has been infected by the left, which turns everything divisive and ugly. You know, feminist used to mean concerned with fair treatment of women and opposition to sex-based discrimination. Sometimes it still does. There are still feminists who just want fair treatment for women.
Modern feminism isn’t homogeneous. Some of us just read a few JP2 encyclicals, learned our worth and became feminists. But unfortunately, modern feminism has been infected by the left, which turns everything divisive and ugly.
I just saw it today and didn’t notice this.Of course the movie itself had to feature a lesbian couple with a child in school; not as main characters, but prominent enough to be noticed for what it was.
It was when they dropped off Bonnie for her first day of school.I just saw it today and didn’t notice this.
I think it might be more correct to say that it was enticing to women and that some women (e.g. Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper) had a major influence on the field. NPR has a pretty good article on the decline of women in computer science, and the graph at the beginning does paint the industry as not really ever being dominated by women. Granted, the noticeable decline in the 80s would indicate that the current “boy’s club” image is more cultural than biological, and the article also delves a bit into what caused that cultural shift. You know software is historically woman’s work, right?
