Most of these are NOT official teachings of the church and never have been to my knowledge. They are tales drawn loosely from comments made from church leaders in the 19th century. Reminds me of some of the things people say about the Catholic church such as worshiping Mary, selling of indulgences for money to build cathedrals, etc, etc.
:DMormon Addict, my grandaughter is Mormon and they take 10% of her pay check every pay day. They realy believe in taking without asking. we give for the priest and Vocations Paul, did say you could, and have the right to ask for money for services or lodging ETC. I have never been told to give in the church and my church never asks me for so much ,or a percentage. Giving should come from the heart “The Lord loves a cheerful giver” If you miss work for a few days you still have to give 10% in your beliefs. Mary is the Mother of Jesus and had to be extremly good for God to live in her She was the temple of God on earth. She is my mother also if I am a Catholic and i can ask through her for things i request, because Jesus came through her to give us life and for the remission of sin. We dont worship her, but you cannot get much higher, she was the cradle of Gods love, she did what no other woman, ever did in this whole world, if you think about it. I love her and all she gave up for us, even her Son, could you give your son up for me?? you are Loved Nancy

I doubt it, since she said she was looking at LDS sources, and that is clearly (at least clear to me) not coming from an LDS source nor is it correctly depicting LDS beliefs.
So, where is it wrong?

And then your mocking of those mocking begins.

Absolutely amazing. But predictable.
Yes it is. But you can also admonish the catholics that mock since it is not the way to behave if one is a catholic. But…alas, you can not seem to do so. And where have I mocked? I consider it my duty to confront catholics who call themselves christian about such behavior. Not to mention the fact, that they seem to all say that mormons are not christian. Some however, do claim that they are good and decent people.

I would rather have a good and decent person as my neighbor than a mocking christian. But that is only my opinion, of course.

:DYou may not be so lucky but i hope you are still happy??😛 We are not the only people who think like this Go to the other churches and ask, and they will tell you the same. The ones who join your gruops are lonely house mouses, and are may be looking for someone to marry also. I know the men are very friendly there, did i say very friendly there? The men are very friendly there. Let me quote this “The men are very friendly there!”😉
Really? Thanks for the information. However, if you go to some protestant churches you may be surprised about what some sects say about the catholics and the catholic church.

Are you sure that you are catholic? To be honest, if catholics were like you and your mocking, I would say that Christ and the holy spirit have abandoned the catholic church. But, fortunately, the catholics who I worship with are nice, polite, and respectful.

😃 I guess i am more of an extrovert i say how i feel OUT LOUD! God is every where! It seems you are mocking me dosen’t it?? Don’t ever say i am not respectful, you don’t even know me and i rpay for the Mormons all the time. I cannot respect what i think is not of God can I? NO! But as a person i can respect you, and i do.🙂

twopekinguys,
Here are things I would change on that chart:

“spirit children organized by God from their intelligence into a spirit being”

“born according to God’s foreknowledge and His perfect plan for this earth”

Paradise includes good people from all faiths, some of whom receive teaching from others. Spirit prison also receives teaching.

We don’t know enough about Celestial kingdom levels two and three to depict any specific idea about those levels. Level one would include those who receive all ordinances and covenants related to exaltation, including those performed in behalf of those who have died and who desire to receive those ordinances done in their name. Also, the house of Israel and the city of Enoch group and many others before Abraham are in the Celestial Kingdom, who may or may not have had temples for their ordinances.

Terrestrial Kingdom includes honorable men and women who do not desire to make covenants to become like Christ, but live good lives.

Telestial Kingdom–wicked and unrepentant of the world who voluntarily repent and confess their belief in Christ during the Millenium as spirits in spirit prison after they have suffered the pains of Hell because of their unrepented sins.

D&C 132 :61-66
And again, as pertaining to the lawm og ther priest hood-if any man expopse a virgin, and desire to expose another, and the first give her consent, and if he expose the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then he is justified: he cannot commit adultry for they are given unto him, for he cannot commit adultry with that which belong to him and to no one else.
And if he have 10 virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultry, for they belong to him; and they are given unto him: therefore he is justified.
But if one or either of the 10 virgins after she is exposed, shall be with another man, she is committed adultry, and shall be destroyed: for they are given unto him to replenish the earth,According to my commandment, to frofil the promise which was given by my father, before the foundations of the world, that they may bear the souls of men: for herein is the work of my father continued, that he may be glorified.
64.And again verily, verily, i say unto you,If any man have a wife, who holds holds the keys of this power, and he teaches unto her the law of my priest hood, as pertaining to these things, then shall she believe and administer unto him, or she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord your god: for i will destroy her: for i will magnify my name upon all those who recieve and abide in my law.
65. Therefore, it shall be lawful in me, if she recieve not this law, for him to recieve all things whatsoever i, the Lord his god will give unto him because she did not believe and administer unto him according to my word: and she then becomes the transgressor: and he is exempt from the law of Sarah, who administered unto Abraham to take Hagger to wife.
66 And now, as pertaining to the law, verily, verily, i say unto you i will reveil more later
therefore let this suffice for the present, behold, i am Alpha, and Omega.Amen.

You don’t see the brain dammage here?
No. I don’t see any brain damage, either. I see a very strong statement that, at the time, and when God has declared it, that polygamy is not adultery. I also see that it would be considered adultery if a polygamous wife left her marriage and fooled around with someone else, no matter how many wives her husband has.

But I’ve already said that you were correct; Joseph Smith and Brigham Young both were polygamists, and so were many, if not most, early Mormons. Three sets of my great grandparents were polygamists. I can’t say that I’m proud of them, because that would be impertinent. I am not responsible for their accomplishments. I CAN say, however, that I am very proud to be their granddaughter, and respect and honor their choices.

You go ahead and disagree with what we believe. I ask only that you disagree with what we actually do believe. So far you have built quite a straw religion to knock down; it bears little resemblance to our actual beliefs.

…and you really need to explain yourself about your accusation that Joseph Smith taught that it was acceptable to have “sex with children.”

Next I expect you to accuse us of having horns and eating babies.

I was tlod Jesus would rule his kingdom for you people from Utah that his new Jerusalem was going to be there??

No, Realy, calm down, there were alot of children envolved or is 12 years, and some younger old enough? I think not! My question is your religion started in the 18 hundreds 1864 or so, Catholics have been here for a longer time and stem back to the original church of Jesus Christ. I had Elders that were here tell me this, that they realy feel the Catholic church, is the real church of Christ. My right hand to God! Truly they said this to me.They are elderly and were on their last mission and live in Utah. They are still head of a Ward there. Polygamy is not in your church at the moment, but i did have conversations with elders that came to the door and when i mentioned it, they said" it might come back to." They were happy that it could come back. I don’t want to be a god that’s the lie satan told Adam and Eve in the garden" If you take and eat you will become like gods" No thank you! How that for being polite??

accomplishments.? How can what they did be considered as an accomplishment? What a strange way to view something as bad as taking advantage of woman and children? He was the highest level of a mason you could be , because of his brother Hiram he got him into it. And i herd he was not even a pastor he was appointed to be one. What’s up with that?
3 degrees but he was 33 degrees i herd?

A Master Mason is the absolute highest level one can achieve in Masonry. You may decide, however, to pursue degrees in the Scottish Rite (where you may have heard the term 33 degree Mason), York Rite, Shriners, Prince Hall, etc. all of which complement Masonry (or Blue Lodge Masonry).

Yep, just as I predicted. First, we have the mantra, the mormons are not christians.
FACT: mormons are not “Christians”. They are not even close.
They believe in a completely different Jesus from the Jesus of the Bible.
Then, the mocking begins …
–Since when is absolute truth considered “mocking” ?
Absolutely amazing.
–Yes. Anyone who believes in a con man false prophet has always amazed me.
But, hey, whatever floats the mormon boat is fine. We have freedom of religion in these United States.

However, mormons have no right whatsoever to call themselves “Christian”.

:No, Realy, calm down, there were alot of children envolved or is 12 years, and some younger old enough?
No, actually, there weren’t, and I’m quite calm. Nancy, people here have seen me when I am not calm, and this?

Isn’t that.
:I think not! My question is your religion started in the 18 hundreds 1864 or so,
Actually, you are about three decades off. Not that it matters, but you are presenting yourself here as an expert on Mormonism, even claiming to know more about my beliefs and history than the Mormons here do. Since you are claiming to teach people about Mormons, it would be a good idea to know a few things about us that are actually, y’know, accurate. You aren’t doing too well so far.
:Catholics have been here for a longer time
Yes. And? The ancient Egyptians were around for twice as long as Catholicism has been, but that doesn’t mean that Ra is real, does it? Truth does not become true according to how long people believe it, Nancy.

As well, our claim isn’t that Catholics haven’t been around awhile. It is that the church went off the rails pretty early on, and that the priesthood authority was lost, also very early on.
: and stem back to the original church of Jesus Christ. I had Elders that were here tell me this, that they realy feel the Catholic church, is the real church of Christ. My right hand to God! Truly they said this to me.They are elderly and were on their last mission and live in Utah. They are still head of a Ward there. How that for being polite??
It’s an improvement, though I believe you may have misheard the “Elders.” For one thing, “Elderly” missionaries come in couples…man and wife. So only one of them would have been an Elder. They both can’t be ‘the head of a Ward there’ if they were missionaries. Unless you have kept in touch with them, you don’t know if he was called to be a Bishop after he got home or not. It is quite possible that he had been a Bishop once…becoming a Bishop is something that happens to a lot of our men; a Bishop generally only serves 5 to 8 years, sometimes less. Then he does something else and someone else gets a turn at it.

If you remember that visit so imperfectly as to forget that “Elderly” missionaries would have been a male/female couple (and probably not ‘tracting’ missionaries anyway) and have presented how things work as imperfectly as you have, then I have no reason to believe that you got what they actually SAID right.

Something tells me that what they said was something more like…“Ether the Catholics are the ‘true church of God’ or the Mormons are…nobody else can be.”
:accomplishments.? How can what they did be considered as an accomplishment? What a strange way to view something as bad as taking advantage of woman and children? He was the highest level of a mason you could be , because of his brother Hiram he got him into it. And i herd he was not even a pastor he was appointed to be one. What’s up with that?
3 degrees but he was 33 degrees i herd?
Oh, man. This paragraph is so full of inacuracies I haven’t got a clue where to begin to address them. As for accomplishments, let’s see…Nauvoo, gathering together a group of people and forming a church that has done nothing but grow from that day to this…

“Taking advantage of women and children?” (snort) Non-Mormon women of those times only WISH they had been ‘taken advantage of’ in that way. Mormon women could vote. Non-Mormon women could not. Mormon women became physicians, lawyers, authors–non-Mormon women weren’t, in many cases, allowed to go to school, or if they did, were not allowed to get the degrees they earned. The USA actually insisted that the vote be taken AWAY from Mormon women in order for Utah to become a state, and the Mormon women agreed to this, if the men promised to restore it at the state constitutional convention. That was the first thing they did. Did they practice polygamy? Yep. So did Abraham, Isaac and others. There was a time for it. We now longer practice it—but it is STILL a fact that Mormon women have had more civil and legal rights throughout the history of the church than any other women in American history, and we didn’t have to fight for them. They were simply assumed, as part of our beliefs.
:A Master Mason is the absolute highest level one can achieve in Masonry. You may decide, however, to pursue degrees in the Scottish Rite (where you may have heard the term 33 degree Mason), York Rite, Shriners, Prince Hall, etc. all of which complement Masonry (or Blue Lodge Masonry).
Ok, Joseph Smith was a Mason. So was my grandfather. My grandmother was the president of the local Eastern Star. What’s your point?

:DBoy! this is great, i like your site better then the book you have it all down pat. And you are right to:p:p:thumbsup: You are Loved Nancy:)

  • The Book of Abraham, from Egyptian papyrus scrolls which came into his (Joe’s) possession in 1835. He stated that the scrolls were written by the biblical Abraham “by his own hand.” Smith’s translation is now accepted as scripture by the LDS church, as part of its Pearl of Great Price. Smith also produced an “Egyptian Grammar” based on his translation. Modern scholars of ancient Egyptian agree that the scrolls are common Egyptian funeral scrolls, entirely pagan in nature, having nothing to do with Abraham, and from a period 2000 years later than Abraham. The “Grammar” has been said by Egyptologists to prove that Smith had no notion of the Egyptian language. It is pure fantasy: he made it up.

He never completed the translation, but he identified the plates as an “ancient record,” and translated enough to identify the author as a descendant of Pharaoh. Local farmers later confessed that they had manufactured, engraved and buried the plates themselves as a hoax. They had apparently copied the characters from a Chinese tea box.
:whistle::dancing: LOL!

Nancy,
Jesus will return to earth to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and I assume will begin to rule the earth from there. There will also be a New Jerusalem, but I think there are going to be governments still on earth with righteous people involved in governing.

As to your earlier comment about resting in heaven, I would not want to be in a place where I had to look forward only to resting, so I guess we desire different places. I love the idea of work and learning forever.

–So said Joe; but Joe didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. Joe was simply an uneducated con man, a sheister and was too busy stealing other men’s wives to obtain an actual education.

He knew nothing of Christianity or how alive and well it was. Jesus had founded the Catholic Church eighteen-hundred years before, but since Joe didn’t understand this fact, he desired to create his own church. He loved that green, know what I mean? He was about as much of a prophet as Cinderella or Shamoo the Whale.

Joe Smith was a third-rate snakeoil salesman and his bogus ‘seer stone’ activities bilked many out of their hard-earned money. Just like “tithing” does now to the brainwashed minions.

👍

Thanks, Nancy.

[edit] Revealed to Smith
The early years in Nauvoo had been a time of comparative peace and economic prosperity, but by mid-1842, Smith was entangled in the conflicts that ended with his death two years later.[93] A year previous, Missouri courts had once again tried to extradite him on old charges that stemmed from the Mormon War. Although Stephen Douglas, then a member of the Illinois State Supreme Court, declared the writ of extradition void on a technicality, Smith “realized that popular opinion was turning against the Saints after two years of sympathy.” Not surprisingly, Smith’s praise for the Democrat Douglas first provoked opposition to the Mormons in a Whig newspaper, the Warsaw Signal, whose young editor, Thomas C. Sharp, Joseph then arrogantly and unwisely offended.[94]

Emma Hale Smith. Although Joseph Smith probably married at least twenty-seven other women,[95] throughout her life, and even on her deathbed, Emma Smith denied that her husband had ever practiced polygamy.[96]Of all Smith’s innovations during the years immediately preceding his death, the one that received the most hostile reception was his institution of plural marriage. In April 1841, Smith secretly wed Louisa Beaman as a plural wife, and during the next two and a half years, he may have married about thirty additional women, ten of them already married to other men.[97] About a third of Smith’s plural wives were teenagers, including two fourteen-year-old girls.[98] Smith was “a charismatic, handsome man,” and in Remini’s words, he “seemed cheerful and gracious” to all.[99] Because many husbands and fathers knew about these plural marriages, Smith must have convinced them that “they and their families would benefit spiritually from a close tie to the Prophet.”[100] Smith told one prospective wife that submitting to plural marriage would “ensure your eternal salvation & exaltation and that of your father’s household”; a father who gave his daughter in plural marriage was assured that the marriage would ensure “honor and immortality and eternal life to all your house both old and young.”[101] Furthermore, once sealed for eternity by priesthood authority, Smith revealed that such couples would continue to procreate in the next life, becoming, in effect, gods.[102]

I’m curious - which of the items on the list are true? (I honestly don’t know much about Mormons so I would appreciate a serious response. 🙂 )
Well, looks like I was banned, so here’s what I think before I get banned again :o 😃

These are the ones that I know are fully true or semi-true:

-“God (the Father) was once a man like us”. As ParkerD already explained, this does not necessarily mean that the Father was not divine when He was a man, just like how Jesus did not stop being divine when He incarnated. However, yes, it is taught that the Father is an exalted man, and that He could have lived on another earth prior to being our God.

-“God (the Father) has a tangible body of flesh and bones”. Yes, this is a standard belief.

-“God lives on a planet near the star Kolob”. Yes.

-“God (“Heavenly Father”) has at least one wife, our “Mother in Heaven,” but she is so holy that we are not to discuss her nor pray to her.”. Yes, this is standard Mormon belief, that the Heavenly Father has a wife, Heavenly Mother. The rest is speculation, some say that we don’t know anything about her because the Father doesn’t want her name to be blasphemed, and other speculations. Mormons do not pray to her.

-"We can become like God and rule over our own universe. ". Mormons believe in exaltation, that you can become gods. I’ve seen at least one Mormon church manual that teaches that you will be given worlds. Mormons believe that you will become like Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother, and will also have “eternal increase”, meaning, you will make spirit children as the Father did.

-"Jesus and Satan (“Lucifer”) are brothers, and they are our brothers - we are all spirit children of Heavenly Father ". Yes, we are all the spirit children of the Father, including Jesus Christ, the firstborn spirit child, and Satan (as well as all the demons). In Catholicism, we believe that the angels are a different order of beings than humans. In the LDS Church, angels are spirit children that either haven’t come to earth yet, resurrected personages, or humans that finished their life on earth and have some work to do before the resurrection. So, we are all the spirit children of God.

-“We should not pray to Jesus, nor try to feel a personal relationship with him.”. Well, I’m sure that Mormons “try to feel a personal relationship” with Jesus. They don’t pray to Him however, and only pray to the Father in the name of Jesus.

-"The “Lord” (“Jehovah”) in the Old Testament is the being named Jesus in the New Testament, but different from “God the Father” (“Elohim”)." Yes, Mormons believe that Jesus is the Jehovah of the Old Testament.

-“In the highest degree of the celestial kingdom some men will have more than one wife.” Certain leaders of the LDS church may have said statements as such, however today that isn’t the case. Interestingly, a man can be eternally married to one wife, and if she dies, he is allowed to be eternally sealed to another wife (without a sealing cancelation). A woman however cannot be eternally married to more than one man, whether or not the first one died. Of course, today a man cannot be sealed to more than one living wife.

-“Before coming to this earth we lived as spirits in a “pre-existence”, during which we were tested; our position in this life (whether born to Mormons or savages, or in America or Africa) is our reward or punishment for our obedience in that life.”. Yes, Mormons believe in something called the “pre-existence” or “pre-mortal existence”. Many believe that our position in this life, as well as our talents, are based on what happened in the pre-existence.

-“Dark skin is a curse from God, the result of our sin, or the sin of our ancestors. If sufficiently righteous, a dark-skinned person will become light-skinned.”-Dark skin isn’t the curse, but is the sign of the curse.

-“You can identify a false angel by the color of his hair, or by offering to shake his hand.”-I don’t know about the color of the hair part, but yes, Joseph Smith did receive a revelation on the handshake part. It is currently in the Doctrine and Covenants scripture:
scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/129

" 4 When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.
5 If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.
6 If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear—
7 Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to bdeceive; but he will still deliver his message.
8 If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.
9 These are three grand keys whereby you may know whether any administration is from God.
"
