HI, JIm sent this to me in June of this year I hope it will be of help to those who seek answers about the Mormon faith:

Dear Friends of Through the Maze,

If for some reason you didn’t see my latest newsletter entitled "Come to

Jesus…Now!" you can do so at:

beyondmormonism.com/comeNow/comenowpage1.htm

Here are a few other things on the web you might find interesting:
  1. Mormon Temple tour. " It is amazing that the Great Temple of
Mormonism, the Salt Lake Temple, is festooned with every manner of
occult and pagan symbol yet it bears no Christian symbols at all. There
is no cross, no crown, no alpha or omega, no icthys, no lion, no lamb,
nor any other recognizable historical Christian symbol. And yet, we
find assorted astrological, occult, and even Satanic emblems."

  1. In search of Book of Mormon geography. " The Book of Mormon is
supposed to be a history of real people living in a real
place. However, one needs to look no further than New York,
Pennsylvania, and Ohio to find the setting
    of the Book of Mormon."

Most of these are NOT official teachings of the church and never have been to my knowledge. They are tales drawn loosely from comments made from church leaders in the 19th century.
**EVERYTHING **on that list is 110% true and taught to the brainwashed in the mormon cult. If any mormon has not yet yet been spoonfed such hogwash, it is only that the fake prophet elders do not think a person is brainwashed enough.
Reminds me of some of the things people say about the Catholic church such as worshiping Mary, selling of indulgences for money to build cathedrals, etc, etc.
–There is no correlation or comparison between the Church that Jesus founded; Jesus’s Holy Mother whose immaculate conception brought the Savior to the world or anything else to Joe’s myth of mormonism.

The false hopwash began by whoever is still going around.

I do not become a God as this false lie continues to say. My goal is become like God, or in other words live my life here on earth recognizing that I will never be perfect – I can hope for such, perfection, after I am gone.

Nothing in that said anything about becoming God. Whoever that began that lie does not know my church’s doctrine.

From the Gospel Principles manual:

"Those who receive exaltation in the celestial kingdom
through faith in Jesus Christ will receive special blessings. The
Lord has promised, “All things are theirs” (D&C 76:59). These
are some of the blessings given to exalted people:
  1. They will live eternally in the presence of Heavenly Father
and Jesus Christ (see D&C 76).
  2. They will become gods.
  3. They will have their righteous family members with them
and will be able to have spirit children also. These spirit
children will have the same relationship to them as we do
to our Heavenly Father. They will be an eternal family.
  4. They will receive a fulness of joy.
  5. **They will have everything that our Heavenly Father and
Jesus Christ have—all power, glory, dominion, and knowl-
edge. President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote: “The Father
has promised through the Son that all that he has shall be
given to those who are obedient to his commandments. **
    "
You become a god, just like the Father.

Here’s an interesting paper by a Mormon apologist entitled “The Doctrine of Exaltation, or, Becoming a God”.

You may also be interested in this article as well by a fellow Mormon:

“Joseph Smith also wrote, “Every man who reigns in celestial glory is a God to his dominions” (TPJS, p. 374)”

Seems as if Joseph Smith was lying about becoming a God, according to you…

also, it’s “hogwash”, not “hopwash”.

:p:pYou are to funny. you just got a thread closed at 1pm today and i had a feeling you would show up here:rotfl::bounce::extrahappy:
It is in your book and i have herd it from Mormons myself D&C 76:58 inhabitants of celestial glory become as gods, Shall be manifest:121:32 132:20, 37 Those who recieve exaltation are gods:and have no end:132:37 Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are gods not angels.

twopekinguys,
Here are things I would change on that chart:

“spirit children organized by God from their intelligence into a spirit being”

“born according to God’s foreknowledge and His perfect plan for this earth”

Paradise includes good people from all faiths, some of whom receive teaching from others. Spirit prison also receives teaching.

We don’t know enough about Celestial kingdom levels two and three to depict any specific idea about those levels. Level one would include those who receive all ordinances and covenants related to exaltation, including those performed in behalf of those who have died and who desire to receive those ordinances done in their name. Also, the house of Israel and the city of Enoch group and many others before Abraham are in the Celestial Kingdom, who may or may not have had temples for their ordinances.

Terrestrial Kingdom includes honorable men and women who do not desire to make covenants to become like Christ, but live good lives.

Telestial Kingdom–wicked and unrepentant of the world who voluntarily repent and confess their belief in Christ during the Millenium as spirits in spirit prison after they have suffered the pains of Hell because of their unrepented sins.
But would the changes you would make be in accordance with lds teachings?

I have noticed there are many varied opinions among lds.

I agree, in fact that is what I was getting at.

I see alot of “variance” in what lds believe.

Interpretation is one thing, but when everyone is doing their own interpreting, things get confused and messy.

This is so typical - mormons don’t yet know the additional hogwash that will bestowed upon them. Guess you have to reach a specific tithing level before they lay on the really wild stuff. That way, when a mormon finally wakes-up and heads for the door, at least they’ve made some seer cash from that person.

The mormons on ANY message board are so entirely predictable; either they claim that others have their cult all wrong, or they do not understand the fractured foundation of their own cult well enough to even support it.

It’s always that way.

Bottom line is that mormons have every right to their “religion”. However, they are wasting precious time if they do not educate themselves. Here is one great site to gather the truth.

They DO NOT have the right, however, to call themselves “Christians”.
By doing so gets true Christians all riled-up.
They can call themselves “Smithians” all they want and most Christians couldn’t give a hoot. But they don’t do that; they themselves are immersed in blasphemy.

Very sad…until they break free.

:)HI We had two young men come over and talk to us , one was not in agreement with the other he didn’t realy agree, he just loked and i said" what’s the matter" he said nothing we learned it differnt. One was in a family of Mason’s the other was not. I wont tell you the conversation but believe me they at least 3 times did not agree to know what the other was talking about. These two young men were 18 years young and from the same state, but one lived up north and the other was where it was hot, both from Arizona. Neither one seemed to like animals either. They shake hands alot when they caome in and before they leave. I had no idea they were probelry checking out my hand shake. They must have liked it they came back, for almost a year i had them come over my house and we all had supper etc. They ar very polite and gracious, but they do not read the bible much. They read their book of Joseph Smith. They could hardly answer me about the bible, but it is hooked to their book to.One book one seemed to love though was Issiah, he kept reading it and praying for me to join their church ETC.

Well, looks like I was banned, so here’s what I think before I get banned again :o 😃

These are the ones that I know are fully true or semi-true:

-“God (the Father) was once a man like us”. As ParkerD already explained, this does not necessarily mean that the Father was not divine when He was a man, just like how Jesus did not stop being divine when He incarnated. However, yes, it is taught that the Father is an exalted man, and that He could have lived on another earth prior to being our God.

-“God (the Father) has a tangible body of flesh and bones”. Yes, this is a standard belief.

-“God lives on a planet near the star Kolob”. Yes.

-“God (“Heavenly Father”) has at least one wife, our “Mother in Heaven,” but she is so holy that we are not to discuss her nor pray to her.”. Yes, this is standard Mormon belief, that the Heavenly Father has a wife, Heavenly Mother. The rest is speculation, some say that we don’t know anything about her because the Father doesn’t want her name to be blasphemed, and other speculations. Mormons do not pray to her.

-"We can become like God and rule over our own universe. ". Mormons believe in exaltation, that you can become gods. I’ve seen at least one Mormon church manual that teaches that you will be given worlds. Mormons believe that you will become like Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother, and will also have “eternal increase”, meaning, you will make spirit children as the Father did.

-"Jesus and Satan (“Lucifer”) are brothers, and they are our brothers - we are all spirit children of Heavenly Father ". Yes, we are all the spirit children of the Father, including Jesus Christ, the firstborn spirit child, and Satan (as well as all the demons). In Catholicism, we believe that the angels are a different order of beings than humans. In the LDS Church, angels are spirit children that either haven’t come to earth yet, resurrected personages, or humans that finished their life on earth and have some work to do before the resurrection. So, we are all the spirit children of God.

-“We should not pray to Jesus, nor try to feel a personal relationship with him.”. Well, I’m sure that Mormons “try to feel a personal relationship” with Jesus. They don’t pray to Him however, and only pray to the Father in the name of Jesus.

-"The “Lord” (“Jehovah”) in the Old Testament is the being named Jesus in the New Testament, but different from “God the Father” (“Elohim”)." Yes, Mormons believe that Jesus is the Jehovah of the Old Testament.

-“In the highest degree of the celestial kingdom some men will have more than one wife.” Certain leaders of the LDS church may have said statements as such, however today that isn’t the case. Interestingly, a man can be eternally married to one wife, and if she dies, he is allowed to be eternally sealed to another wife (without a sealing cancelation). A woman however cannot be eternally married to more than one man, whether or not the first one died. Of course, today a man cannot be sealed to more than one living wife.

-“Before coming to this earth we lived as spirits in a “pre-existence”, during which we were tested; our position in this life (whether born to Mormons or savages, or in America or Africa) is our reward or punishment for our obedience in that life.”. Yes, Mormons believe in something called the “pre-existence” or “pre-mortal existence”. Many believe that our position in this life, as well as our talents, are based on what happened in the pre-existence.

-“Dark skin is a curse from God, the result of our sin, or the sin of our ancestors. If sufficiently righteous, a dark-skinned person will become light-skinned.”-Dark skin isn’t the curse, but is the sign of the curse.

-“You can identify a false angel by the color of his hair, or by offering to shake his hand.”-I don’t know about the color of the hair part, but yes, Joseph Smith did receive a revelation on the handshake part. It is currently in the Doctrine and Covenants scripture:
scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/129

" 4 When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.
5 If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.
6 If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear—
7 Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to bdeceive; but he will still deliver his message.
8 If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.
9 These are three grand keys whereby you may know whether any administration is from God.
"
Ordinarily I don’t like people who quote very long passages only to say 'I agree with you!" at the end, but

good job, Thurifer.

I’m 60 years old…but y’all know that already…and I"ve been arguing with people about my beliefs for a very long time; nearly half a century. You are the FIRST person I’ve come across that not only makes some attempt to find out what our beliefs actually are, but who actually suceeds at it, and who presents them with some sort of objective balance. I know you don’t agree with our beliefs–but at least so far you are not agreeing with our beliefs as they actually ARE.

You have no clue how refreshing that is.

I have some mormon cousins, and they are are as divided as the union and confederacy on some things. Then I throw some of the conversations from here at them, and it gets even worse.

One of them has become so disillusioned she submitted her resignation letter to Salt Lake a couple of months ago. Nobody from her ward(if that’s the right word) is talking to her. I even saw a couple of them turn their back on her in the middle of the grocery store. after they made eye contact. It was really sad.

Well, the Book of Mormons is taken from the King James Bible, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Mormonism took many of its beliefs from misunderstandings of Christian doctrine.

By the way, Mormons aren’t Christian because they don’t believe in the Holy Trinity and Christ in the flesh and they aren’t baptized with the correct formula. If anyone tells you you have no right to say who is or isn’t Christian, just tell them that the the Church of Christ gets to say who is or isn’t a member of itself.
Mormon are NOT Christian they do not believe in the trinityThey do not have a baptism right baptist they do not bless in the name of the Father, the name of the Son and the name of the Holy ghost and they have a baptism for the DEAD and many other thing that are not Christian

Dianaiad, you did agree with him right? His list? At the bottom of his list it say’s dark colored skin, you are in a place where most people are dark colored skin,How can you live there? Catholic’s don’t care what color you are and if you wear a suit all the time.I like to wear makeup also, now and then and i never hear anyone say anything about that. I love jewlery also and fancy dresses, not down to my feet, and not above my knees.I have been in your churches and have gone to the womans class to see what it was like I even went to a baptismal and i was never so insulted one night when some old man said"They just don’t know, those from outside the church, they are all going to hell all those who don’t join our church" I saw my dad who is Cathoilc, I saw my friends who are Methodist, and Baptist, I saw myself, who was confussed and uncertain where i belonged, i went right out and left my book I just walked out and never came back. I cried all the way home, the tears never stopped not even when i got home. Then i got on the web last year, I forced myself to learn this machine and i searched with all my heart, and came accross this site, i didn’t know what a forum was, so i entered in, i used my name because i didn’t know differnt, and i have kept it all the while ive been here. I looked at a thread because i didn’t know what to do or how to run the machine, and i ended up on a thread where i never laughed so much in my life. Well i saw a button to reply and i thought it was play acting and i told this person i never laughed so much in my life and boy didn’t i hear it. I thought this person was a man and i began wondering why he would ever take me wrong?? I still have problems with putting my point accross because we do all talk differnt. that person hopped all over me, and so did 6-7 more and i fought back, somehow i stuck it out and i am glad i did. Catholic’s are differnt they defend their beliefs and if you come here to just knock theirs you will find alot of defence. I was not in the church at that time until i finally made friends with the person i thought i would never be friends with ever! I love her now BEN! my best friend! i think the world of her. If you are searching for real friends they are here and they care about you, i do, even if i tell you how i think I am telling you from what i have learned and what effect it had on me going to your church etc. I still have my Mormon friends and i love them and my granddaughter is Mormon also, and i love her but she wont speak to me until i gt baptized Mormon. Not even in another life! So there you have it, I wont lie to you, there is no reason to. Love of Christ Nancy

Mormons And The Trinity
By David E Lister and Jason Catizone

One of the most difficult mysteries and doctrines to explain within Christianity is the doctrine of the Trinity. But we do want to state that while difficult, it is not impossible to teach or defend.
Mormons have a “trinity” but that “trinity” is not the Trinity of The Scriptures. The “trinity” within Mormonism is the doctrine that proposes there are a Father, Son and Holy Ghost who exist as three separate persons, three separate gods, and three separate natures, yet united in one purpose. Unlike historic Christianity, which teaches that there is The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, Who is of one substance, and He is God. In other words The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit are one God by nature.

Often times when Mormons want to show positive proof that there are three separate gods, they turn to the Bible and point to the stoning of the first Christian martyr, Stephen. Picking up in the book of Acts 7:55-56, “But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, ‘Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.“

The Mormon will often say at this event, Stephen sees two distinct gods/persons and this proves that the “godhead” is made up of more than one god. It is at this point that we inform the Mormon that we will be glad to offer our defense of the Trinity and One true God by nature if he wants to continue with the subject. But we offer him a way out before we start as he will now have a hard time defending his own doctrine, the belief that we are to worship one God and pray only to the Father. If the offer is refused, we affirm with him the following:

We start by showing him that there is only one God in historic Christianity. Deuteronomy 6:4 states, “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!” We next take him to 1 Corinthians 8:4, “Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one.”

We then move to show the Mormon that the Father is God. Galatians 1:1, “Paul, an apostle (not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead.” Followed by 2 Thessalonians 2:16 & 17, “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.”

We next show the Mormon that the Son is God. Titus 1:3 & 4, “but at the proper time manifested, even His word, in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior, to Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.” At Titus 2:10 & 13, “…not pilfering, but showing all good faith that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect,” and “…looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.” Again, Titus 3: 4 & 7, “But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,” and “…whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Or 1 Timothy 1:15-17, “It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

It should be stated that there are many other verse that support or show that Jesus is God.

We next point out in Acts 5:3 & 4 that The Holy Spirit is God. “But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.’”

After showing the Mormon that all three within the Godhead are God, the Mormon will agree with you and the Bible. Next we will talk about how there is no perfect comparison to God. Isaiah states it this way, in Isaiah 46:5, “To whom would you liken Me, and make Me equal and compare Me, that we would be alike?” And in v.9,”Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me.”

We next show them this illustration:

We next show them this illustration:

After going over and explaining the illustration with the Mormon, we then ask the following questions and use these verses to support our answer.

How many Gods should we worship? The Mormon will answer, “One!” We will then show them the following verses: Exodus 20:1-5, “Then God spoke all these words, saying, ‘I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me.” Also, we show them Matthew 4:10, “Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.‘”

Now this is where the Mormon will start to become uncomfortable with his own teachings. We then turn to the Book of Mormon and show them 2 Nephi 25:16, where worship is to be given to the Father. “And after they have been scattered, and the Lord God hath scourged them by other nations for the space of many generations, yea, even down from generation to generation until they shall be persuaded to believe in Christ, the Son of God, and the atonement, which is infinite for all mankind – and when that day shall come that they shall believe in Christ, and worship the Father in his name, with pure hearts and clean hands, …“

After this we slip down to 2 Nephi 25:29, and show the Mormon that worship is also to be given to the Son. “And now behold, I say unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not; and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your whole soul…” This is also shown in 3 Nephi 11:17. “Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him.” Now the Mormon is in conflict, as he has to give worship to two gods according to his own book. He is no longer in agreement with historic Christianity and historic Judaism where there is to be worship of one God, and one God only. The Mormon will try and point out or misuse the word worship, and apply a different meaning to it when it applies to Jesus, saying that it only means obeisance or obedience. However, the context does not allow for that understanding. We point out to the Mormon that there’s no problem in our theology in worshiping one God and one God only, as The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit are – by nature – one God. The gods of Mormonism, however, are a godhead made up of three gods, with different natures. Scripture reminds us in 1 Corinthians 8:5 that “even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,” Galatians 4:8, “…when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.”

We now ask the Mormon, “Is it right to pray to anyone but God?” Their usual response will be to say that we should only pray to the Father. It is at this point that we show them from the Book of Mormon that prayer is offered to the Father, “And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth; and behold he prayed unto the Father” (3 Nephi 17: 15). We then take them to 3 Nephi 19:18, where prayer is directed to the Son – “And behold, they began to pray; and they did pray unto Jesus, calling him their Lord and their God.” Here again the Mormon is in conflict by praying to two gods.

But would the changes you would make be in accordance with lds teachings?

I have noticed there are many varied opinions among lds.
twopekinguys,
Those changes would be in accordance with the united teachings of the apostles and First Presidency as the united voice to provide doctrinal clarification if teachings are not specifically found in the scriptures. Most of what I included in those changes is specifically from the “standard works” therefore is doctrinal without need for clarificaton.

People can have varied opinions. It is their right to do so. They can think, they can change opinions about things, they can grow in understanding as they pray and ponder and read the scriptures. It is a good thing to think and ponder and pray, not a bad thing. That means people are growing all the time.

A couple of other things need to be pointed out to the Mormon. In Acts 7:59, Stephen is being stoned and he calls out to The Lord Jesus – the Greek case he uses is what is called the vocative case, which indicates that he is clearly speaking to Jesus Himself. Also, in Mormon theology, Jehovah is Jesus, and Elohim is God the Father. (’Jehovah’ is an {incorrect!} representation of God’s Personal Name in Hebrew, YHWH, and ‘Elohim’ is one of the Hebrew words for God.) Mormons believe that the Scriptures show two different gods. Yet there are some Scriptures that the Mormon will have a hard time applying to their theology. In Psalm 100: 3 the scripture reads, “Know that the LORD” (’YHWH,’ in Hebrew) “Himself is God” (’Elohim,’ in Hebrew). And in Deuteronomy 4: 24, the same type of problem exists for the Mormon. “For the LORD” (’YHWH,’ in Hebrew) “your God” (’Elohim,’ in Hebrew) “is a consuming fire, a jealous God” (’El’, in Hebrew). And in verse 31 it says, “For the LORD” (’YHWH’) “your God” (’Elohim’) “is a compassionate God” (’El’). As you can see, the Hebrew does not support their interpretation of two gods.

It is clear from historic Christianity that true Christians have worshipped one God, and one God alone. Mormonism is not in line with historic Christianity, and even it’s own doctrine is confusing and does not support that we are to worship the One True God. As such, the Mormon is worshiping a different Jesus, who brings a different gospel, and a different spirit… a spirit that brings confusion in order to blind the Mormon to The True Jesus and True God of Scripture… a deity that cannot give them eternal life.

Nancy Dalrymple,
I suppose you may realize that your Catholic friends on this website have consistently pointed out that they believe in a Trinity of three distinct Persons. In fact they seemed to be offended by Elder Holland’s description of “One God” believed in by those who describe their belief in the Trinity.

So perhaps a clarification needs to be made by Catholics that really explains what is meant by “Three Persons,” if it doesn’t really mean Three Persons.

Jehovah was Jesus Christ, the God who is appointed by God the Father to be His Representative on this earth and who participated in the Creation and was the Lord God of Israel, and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The “One God” verses are referring to Jehovah, Jesus Christ.

Christ taught us to pray to Heavenly Father. The Nephites prayed to Jesus when He was in their presence, because He had ascended to the Father and was fully Representative of the Father as He visited them, so their inclination to pray to Him was a logical inclination in His presence. Otherwise, we pray to Father in Heaven when we are not in the presence of Jesus Christ physically, meaning always on this present earth until He comes again.
