I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. This is one of those types of movies where I have to remind myself to stop thinking and just enjoy a fun 2 hours (give or take). I love the music, the action sequences, the banter between characters, etc., but I cannot start thinking about whether any of it makes sense. Once I start doing that, I end up not enjoying myself. I knew going in that this is a summer blockbuster-turn-your-brain-off type movie, so I was not disappointed when it turned out to be just that.
We saw it on Sunday night.

SPOILER ALERT:

I thought it could have gone deeper - I thought there was a good story there, but only the surface of it was being skimmed over.

For example, we have no idea where this woman came from - she wasn’t in any of the previous movies; not even a mention of her - yet, she is the love of Jones’ life? The woman with whom no other woman can compete, try though they might? (re: “They all had the same problem, honey - they weren’t you.”)
Marion Ravenwood was Indy’s love interest in Raiders of the Lost Ark. In my opinion, she was the best of all the female leads in the Indiana Jones movies. When Karen Allen first appeared on screen, the whole audience (and the place was packed!) cheered.

Ummm… that’s Marion Ravenwood… the love interest from Raiders of the Lost Ark. I thought she looked great and their relationship was very funny and believable.
Also, the boy seems to come to terms with being Jones’ son a bit too quickly - there should have been some screaming arguments between them, instead of just, “I said that before I knew I was your father. Now I’m saying, go back to school and finish your education.” And the kid just gives a little token protest, and then accepts it? 🤷
First of all, Mutt is an adult, so suddenly finding out that Indy is his father doesn’t change his life very much. Second, they’ve all got more important things on their minds… like escaping and surviving. Third, he already likes Indy.

shes the same woman from raiders, she was the one that had the medallion that indy needed to find where the ark was. she was the same lady at the end that was tied up to the pole with him when all heaven broke loose on the nazis.

same actress, just 30 years older

edit: oops, verita answered already.

does anyone know how the skull was lost/stolen in the first place?

i still cant figure that one out.

AH, okay - that’s who she is.

All is now forgiven. 🙂

It’s hard to enjoy a movie for what it is when it insults my intelligence.

Crusade was awesome, it was actually thought provoking with a very well written script.

Spoiler alert

I found it hard to entertain the notion that aliens came down to Earth 5000 years ago and taught the Mayans how to farm an irrigate. Not to mention a UFO buried under rock for thousands of years. DUMB!

Oh, and that any human being could survive dropping off 3 water falls that are a billion feet tall. Did anyone see the jagged rocks below? They would have been fish bait. But of course, they escaped unscathed.

Lucas didn’t even try to make the story believable.
Well… the aliens thing is a proposed idea for where the actual crystal skulls came from.

Right, I understand that. But it was still completely ridiculous.
How is that ridiculous? Do you find any movie/story dealing with the possibility of aliens visiting Earth ridiculous? Like another poster said, the concept is no more far fetched than a Templar Knight who’s been living in a cave for 500 years or so.

LOL, if you can’t understand the ridiculous notion that aliens with crystal skulls, mind you, coming down on a space ship to teach Indians how to farm, then there’s no helping you! Oh, and their skulls are magnetic…but only *some *of the time. Wasn’t it amazing how the skull was highly magnetic with magic gun powder in the Area 51 building, but wasn’t magnetic AT ALL when Indy was fighting with the Soviets in the jungle? This is what someone else said, it had HOLES in the plot. It didn’t make any sense.

Believing that the Holy Grail will give a Templar Knight eternal life is way more believable. After all, isn’t that what we are promised if we partake in the Eucharist?

Did the “Last Crusade” have an Impramatur?🙂

I don’t know it had an ImprImatur. It doesn’t matter either, we’re not talking about whether something is official, we’re talking whether it’s believable.

Still, what of the Temple of Doom? Do you give a pass to the Mola Ram’s ablity to pull people’s still beating heart from their chest, without puncturing the skin?

I think that if the only way we will be okay with sci-fi or fantasy is if it is based in Catholic theology, we will find ourselves staying home a lot.Which is fine, but I bet most Catholic scholars would scoff at the ideas set forth in The Last Crusade.

Either way, I thought Indy 4 was decidedly “meh”, and I was very psyched going in.

Fun, but not as good as the others, and a bit too campy. The clever lines were either predictable, or simply, not that funny.

Personal i didn’t like the movie and will not own it or see it again. I didn’t buy kate’s Blanchet accent and were they trying to say she had psycho powers??? And i couldn’t buy the plot. The Skull was so powerful but it let itself get kidnapped and then couldn’t get it’s self back to the true alien body? Nope don’t buy it for one moment.

i liked the actors and appreciate the homage back to the previous movies and the special effects were good and i like the chase scenes since they were Indian Jones style but i couldn’t get post the plot. Too many holes. It was like watching Indian Jones/ National Treasure and Stargate all wrapped into one movie…

But what about the slipper…

HA! That was cool! I guess I’m just not interested in sci-fi themes. I like religious/cult themes that were in the first 3 films. The ripping out the beating heart was a human sacrifice which many cultures practiced…doesn’t have to be a Catholic theme for me to enjoy a movie.

Fair enough 🙂

I didn’t think it was that great a movie either way, and wished they had made the ending biblical in nature rather than alien in origin. Oh well.

This was the DUMBEST movie I have ever seen. Boring to tears.

Number 4 was a really fun movie. I very much enjoyed it. Mutt was great, there was some excellent humor and the magicallish stuff wasn’t very flashy. There were a lot of wild adventures. It felt very much like Indiana Jones.

I really liked how the kid Mutt got to respect Indy more and more as time went on, starting out calling him gramps and saying things like, “how old are you anyway, eighty?” 😃 To which Indy looked very annoyed :D. There was a lot of great humor, and Indy proved himself his powerful, grand old self more and more as time went on. He wasn’t being sidelined.

It was all-around a lot of fun.

No; they were saying that she was researching psychic power, to be used as a weapon of warfare. She thought that the crystal skull would give her telepathic powers. (I suppose she also thought she could use telepathy in that one scene, but as it turned out, she couldn’t.)

Another thing I thought was weird was how the Russians (who were supposed to be Socialist Communists) were portrayed as being individualistic, sort of “every man for himself,” and didn’t seem to care when members of their group were being harmed or killed.

Agree with it or not, but that’s not exactly the Socialist way - they didn’t react the way normal Socialists would react.
