Please do your research. It was the Trump administration who CHANGED the policy, from one of simple deportation(with the family intact) that it was under Mr Obama, to the current one of automatic prosecution, which technically necessitates the sundering of the family in question. The administration has brazenly admitted this change was made ‘in order to bring the Democrats to the bargaining table’. The misery and trauma of innocent children is the price Mr Trump is happy and willing to pay in order to score political points. There is nothing more diabolical than that.

If they are fleeing persecution, they can be granted asylum. Violence is not necessarily a valid reason. Depends on whether we are talking about crime, or war. Their own govt should be protecting them from crime. But if their govt is persecuting them or fleeing war, then they should be able to apply for asylum.

Anyone can ask for asylum, just check the right boxes on your application, no proof required. It’s a temp status while they are being reviewed whether they qualify for refugee status. Someone fleeing persecution, such as an LGBT from the middle east, would qualify for refugee status.

Are we talking about families with children who are:
  1. US Citizens
  2. DREAMERS (10 years old or older)
  3. families with young non-US citizens? (aka future DREAMERS)
  4. All of the above
  5. 2 and 3
?

Again, the whole thing is a mess… And I DO NOT agree with using kids as a bargaining chip. But I also know, this situation will not get better until we have immigration reform, which is something both parties can’t agree to.

Correct. But typically the people who are granted asylum are fleeing persecution, not crime or poverty.

Yes, only when ‘crime’ rises to the level of civil war. Or maybe if you are a targeted politician or reporter fleeing the cartels.

No fortification is 100% breach proof, but a high wall at the border will stop the vast majority of this problem
 
I think East Germany has some extra wall they don’t need anymore, maybe we can buy it at a discount?
 
The difference is that East Germany had a wall to keep people in, the proposed southern wall is to prevent people from SNEAKING in without proper vetting.

Already been sold,
and incidentally it was quite effective, but at keeping people inside.

Judging by the resell prices on ebay and amazon, it’s kinda expense too. Better we start fresh.
