Sorry but 24 is still pretty young in my book and to be an authority on all of this because in a limited amount of time in 24 years, I’m sorry but you have still a lot to learn. Liberal biases at the university level has been an ongoing complaint not just in 24 years but much long than that and has been well documented not just at the undergrad level but at the graduate level where promoting the liberal party line becomes even more critical and includes even what professors get tenure. Sigh, kids these days.
Personal relationship is critical to success in grad school. If there is any doubt that you are not on the same page as your professor in your grad work, the advise is to move on, lest a big black stain is left on your permanent record.

And in countering the points made by those of us who maintain there is a left/liberal bias in academia, you need to do more than repeat a mantra: “there is no media bias because I don’t think there is.”

The other thing to consider is PERSPECTIVE. Many people have no idea they are being indoctrinated (indoctrination at its best) because they never see an opposing view. They don’t even know that what is being said is liberal because they’ve never heard anything else. My sister (a raging liberal) loudly announced she was one of the most conservative member of her group of friends and couldn’t understand why people had an issue with what she was saying.

If you are a student that had liberal parents or nonpolitical parents after 13+ years of liberal indoctrination from NEA approved teachers then 4-5 years of liberal college instructors of course your perspective of normal or neutral will be skewed.

Reality: Those who can, do. Those who can’t , teach

This MSU Professor is a joke and should be fired. Tenure is a bad idea. Incidentally, Republican and Democrat is a bad idea. But the ideas this Professor has is contradictory. He lectured about American Indians this and that but if it wasn’t for the Republicans he condemns, he would likely not have the professor job. Had things gone on the American Indian way, we wouldn’t have most of the advances that we have today, so it benefitted Native Americans as well. What the Professor ignores is that Native Americans were primitive, killed and scalped eachother, many ran around naked. Native Americans have more suicides, drugs and not the life this professor thinks is good.
I think you may have watched too many John Wayne westerns. You’re right about the very high suicide rate among Native Americans and the proliferation of drugs and disease, however. But why do you suppose there is this problem?

You may as well finish the thought: And those who can’t teach, teach how to teach.
Thanks-I knew there was a third part. My brother (who has a PHD in English) told me that joke. My brother was the only classroom teacher in his district that had a PHD. Taught Engilsh for 30 years in a High School. Retired to the mountains and teaches on line for several universities. He is Liberal BUT he always refused to join the NEA-said he was a professional and wasn’t comfortable joining a union.

Interesting. However it doesn’t cover your post, or true reality at all. You seem to be saying that reality confines us to a few simple choices as far as political, and or financial systems go. Your definition seems to refer to recognizing consequences, and situations. When what history teaches us about reality is that it exist despite any stressors we impose on ourselves. As we have seen, we can make things pretty hard on our enemis, and ourselves. But, we can not match reality for cruelty, and limits of possibility. Speaking for myself, I could get along without a society of any sort. As long as God allows, that is. Just as I could survive in a Communist, Fascist, Capitalist, or Socialist society. All which are in the boundaries set by reality. Just because one system fell to another does not mean that it was not allowed by reality. It fell because of choices made by humans. Or perhaps God in a few instances. Your own definition should help you to form the obvious conclusion here.

In the end, we can treat each other as God wishes, or we can carry on with our self destruction. But either choice is within the boundaries of reality. Which as we know is actually Gods will.

I don’t think we helped the Indians any more than the Human society helps the pit bulls they “rescue”. As another thought, the Republican party the professor rails against did not exist during the conquest of the America’s. In true conservative fashion they show up after the danger has passed.😉

Not making any comment on most of your post, but you do realize that the high suicide rate, drug rate, etc. is because the vast majority of Native Americans were forced onto very small reservations and, as a result, are extremely poor to this day? The “rich casino” meme only applies to an extremely small percentage of Native Americans. Native Americans are, by a mile, the most vulnerable racial group in the United States.
American Indians do not have to live on reservations. They can live anywhere they want to in the USA. In fact, they have the best of both in the USA. American Indians can live on reservations, not pay property taxes and get free medical care from govt. They can work outside reservations and bring the money back to reservations. Or American Indians can live outside reservations, pay property taxes and so on. Non-Indians can not live on a reservation if a tribe doesn’t want them.

American Indians for a long time have = chance as all other citizens have. There are American Indian lawyers, engineers, athletes and they have the same chance to succeed. This MSU professor has = chance as all others do but he complains about what happened so long ago. Once a dispute is solved, then it’s over. People who commit suicide, do drugs or have alcoholism made the choice to do what they did.

Hmmm. Kendra was kind enough to share her personal experiences with us. Thanking her would be more appropriate. 😉

“Those who are not liberal when they are are young have no heart, those who remain liberal as they mature have no mind”

Usually attributed to Winston Churchill

Yes I remember being taught how liberal democrats killed millions of Native Americans to make the contry safe… 🤷

College Faculties A Most Liberal Lot, Study Finds

washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A8427-2005Mar28.html
I don’t think there can be any dispute that conservatives are vastly outnumbered on college campuses. One question is why is that? Is it because conservatives are being discriminated against? I have not seen evidence of any conspiracy to keep conservatives out of academia. It seems more likely that they seek different career paths, which is neither good nor bad. As a conservative myself, aside from living through a couple rants, I have not experienced anything negative from being a conservative on campus.

The second question is: are students being indoctrinated? All I can say is that in my field of economics the way we teach our courses does not vary based on whether the instructor is liberal or conservative. In some fields, such as social work, there may be a clear liberal bias, but as far as a pervasive level of indoctrination it is not clear that is what is going on.

So you’re arguing that someone who’s college-aged and who experiences a university environment on a daily basis is less knowledgable on what happens at a university than a 50+ year-old (not you) who hasn’t seen the campus of a university in 30 years, just because one is older? Because that makes sense .

Edit: also, if it’s “well-documented,” how come no one here has been able to show evidence of it being widespread? I have 3 newspaper articles (2 from the Pacific NW), a study of the 32 most-liberal private schools in New England and the Pacific NW, and a study that refuses to detail which schools they studied. Surely there could be better evidence gathered than this if it was, in any way, “well-documented.”

What’s more likely is that Kendra and I are right, as people who have experienced many different college campuses each in the last 5 years due to our age. We also have a wide plethora of friends at various colleges (including a HUGE quantity of Southern friends in my case), and I guarantee you that many of those Southern schools are extremely conservative, especially in their political science departments.
