Music Leader Thread Part III - Song Lists, Suggestions, and Comments

We will be using MOC as well. The Holy Holy Holy won’t be a problem but I’m a bit worried about the Gloria. For one thing we have not done it much in our Parish. For another the words are a tad busier than they were. Trying to fit 4-6 words in a measure can get tiresome to a group. But we’ll make it work somehow.

30th Sunday in OT

I didn’t realize how well “One Love Released” fit for this weekend, yet I suggested it for next weekend. 😦

The real version, with “Our fathers, chained in prisons dark,” or the rewrite where the second and third verses start “Faith of our mothers, daring faith,” and “Faith of our brothers, sisters too”?

I just realized that all the suggestions for next weekend have a second coming connotation to them. Even though “Wake, O Wake, and Sleep No Longer” is traditionally an Advent hymn, it can be taken as a second coming hymn as well. I love this time of the liturgical year when we begin to wrap up; the readings speak of the end times.

Is anyone else having a hard time believing that it’s going to be November? I can’t believe it. The new Mass is coming!

Update from Diocese of Phoenix decision to suspend distribution of the Cup.

we were all told at Mass yesterday that Bishop Olmstead has decided to postpone the decision to stop distributing the Cup to the general congregation until next year.

Personally, I will continue to walk past the Cup and trust the judgment of our Bishop. My body will be fed by His Body and my soul will be cleansed.

Sad. Very Sad.

[Being suitable for the liturgy] means, in the first place, embodying the truth. Some of the songs that we sing at liturgy contain lyrics which clearly are not true — for example, the song “All Are Welcome.” As a matter of fact, the liturgy takes place mystically in the heavenly sanctuary. All are welcome at the liturgy who truly seek salvation in and through Jesus Christ, by following God’s Will, as spelled out through His Son’s very Body, the Church. People who have little interest in doing God’s Will don’t fit at the liturgy. And certainly, by their own choosing, the poor souls who suffer in Hell for all eternity are not welcome. Those are simple, but true facts. Thus the song, “All Are Welcome,” gives an impression that the choice for the Will of Jesus Christ, as it comes to us through the Church, makes no difference; and nothing could be further from the truth. It could therefore be concluded that the song, “All are Welcome,” is not beautiful so as to be appropriate-for-liturgical-use. Being true is necessary before anything can be beautiful.

Does anyone have any experience with a Lessons and Carols service? I have found this description, but I don’t want it to be too Anglican. Ideas or suggestions?

That service mostly used the same order I had linked to before. I’m currently basing my program off of it, except I’m exchanging the choral pieces with Christmas hymns.

This will probably take place on the evening of Saturday in the Third Week of Advent.

Any other ideas?
