The furore over comments made by Pope Benedict about the Islamic concept of Holy War continues to grow. Today British Muslims joined in, fiercely criticising his remarks.
The pontiff was accused of falling into “the trap of bigots and racists” with the comments he made on a visit to Germany.

Last night Vatican officials were scrambling to defend the comments, saying the Pope had never intended to offend Muslims.

Man o man… the ‘Religion of Peace’ is at it again.

He’s just following a tradition of amazing popes who were hated by the world for telling the truth.👍 Like Jesus said, they will revile and hate us for His name. He was delivered up to a shameful death for rebuking sin and preaching truth, His vicar is going to have to expect to not be liked. The servant is not greater than the master

I have known only five popes, Pius XII, John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II and now Benedict XVI. I don’t recall any being hated by the world. JPII was loved by the world. Stirring up hatred is not going to be productive of much positive.

I think Benedict XVI’s remarks were simply ill chosen and that the Vatican will be able to pour some oil on troubled waters here.

Some people are going to choose to be offended no matter what. The world does not belong to such people alone.

I don’t think they are in any mood to give him their oil.😉

They are proving his comments correct…

*** “The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war,” the Pope said. ***
*** “He said, I quote, ‘Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.”

****Praise God we have a leader who speaks the truth, and who will do all he can to SOLVE the problem, not just hide and ignore it.

Muslims must do more to integrate, says Archbishop

Who cares if they are happy with his comments or not! Personally I couldn’t give a sorry rats behind what they think.

HOW PATHETIC! Vatican scrambling to defend what the Pope said? Why? IT WAS THE TRUTH or are we to run with out tails tucked under our you-know-whats again? Why cant the Pope be candid with the Muslims?http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon13.gif

Im firmly convinced that there simply nothing, nothing in the west that will placate the Muslims short of surrender.

The fury only proves Islam is a religion that praises violence that gives them converts rather than peace.

He wouldnt have quoted it if he didnt agree with it.

The pope has MY support all the way, what good has islam brought to the world?

None.

It is a false religion.

Interesting article.
Typical reaction by the “peaceful” Islamic community. Outrage, destruction, etc.
As to Pope Benedict XVI, he hasn’t been called “God’s rottweiler” for nothing. I don’t know why the Vatican officials deem it necessary to qualify his remarks.
It’s about time folks stop pussy footing around these muslims so as not to anger them (like THAT’S difficult to do!), appear “inclusive”, “tolerant”, whatever…

:twocents: duly deposited.

The problem I see here is that radio stations and the media are going report on this story incorrectly and they will just end up stiring up the masses against each other.

Some of the radio stations are already attributing the quote the pope made as his own words.

I think the question he wants people to ask is this.

Is one of Mohammeds commandments to spread by the sword the faith he preached?

Anyway I hope the Pope continues to tell the truth like it is. The world needs to wake up. So far I am very happy with the disturbances the Pope has caused in the Media. 🙂

"The Pope’s speech quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and an educated Persian on the truths of Christianity and Islam.

“The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war,” the Pope said. “He said, I quote, ‘Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.”

7 centuries since the emperor made the statement. Is it any different now as it was then concerning the perception of Islamic religion?

I say that was a lot of time they had on their hand to change the world’s perception of their religion if it wasn’t so.

Seems time has run out that someone finally speak the truth !

For those living in denial, WAKE UP!

The Pope’s job description does not include a popularity contest.

I would imagine St. Peter wasn’t very well-loved by the world either.

We’ve all heard the clique: "truth hurts.: and I’m glad that Benedict XVI is stating a historical premise that was made from the Byzantine Empire. I

I’m also interested on how the liberal media throughout the world is reacting to this since most of the media would consider our faith to be intolerant of others. Well, IMO Islam preaches violence and don’t see anything Tolerant about that.:tsktsk:

These same people went crazy over cartoons, not this… :banghead:

PRayers need to go up for our Holy Father!:gopray:

Don’t forget the Religious Authorities hated Christ too, so it’s part of the job description to not to be worldly popular.

I’ll stand behind the Holy Father!:yup:

It sickens me that the “religion of peace” is so easily offended. Being a Catholic Christian, I’ve suffered my fair share of remarks that have cut me to the core, but NEVER have I wanted to resort to violence.

Why should we be forced to succumb to political correctness which defies and denies the TRUTH??

Kudos to our beloved Pope!!! 👍 👍 👍

Spreading the gospel does not mean making people feel good.
“For if a man resolve to submit himself to carrying this cross – that is to say, if he resolve to desire in truth to meet trails and to bear them in all things for God’s sake, he will find in them all great relief and sweetness wherewith he may travel upon this road, detached from all things and desiring nothing. Yet, if he desire to possess anything – whether it comes from God or from any other source – with any feeling of attachment, he has not stripped and denied himself in all things; and thus he will be unable to walk this narrow path or to climb upward by it” (St. John of the Cross, Ascent of Mount Carmel, book 2. 7, 7).

Thank God - our Holy Father has courage. Like others here I have had my Catholic Faith much maligned and never once even thought of getting a gang of Catholics together to take to the streets and violently protest. We are being held hostage, like an abused spouse, by the fear of what a group will do if they are offended.

Religion of Peace?

. . . Vatican scrambling to defend what the Pope said?
I think we should keep in mind that “scrambling” (with its air of panic and connotation of poor organization and/or preparedness) is one of those terms the media folks use to describe the actions of those of whom they don’t approve. If they like you they would say, for example, that you were “quick to defend. . .”
