We’ve all heard the clique: "truth hurts.: and I’m glad that Benedict XVI is stating a historical premise that was made from the Byzantine Empire. I

I’m also interested on how the liberal media throughout the world is reacting to this since most of the media would consider our faith to be intolerant of others. Well, IMO Islam preaches violence and don’t see anything Tolerant about that.:tsktsk:

These same people went crazy over cartoons, not this… :banghead:

PRayers need to go up for our Holy Father!:gopray:
The truth hurts when you are in denial. I am so grateful that Benedict XVI is not trying to be politically correct in this matter. Prayers going up daily for our Pope in this home.

These Muslims get angry easily, don’t they? They had riots over cartoons remember? They are really violent. I don’t like them. Also, Muhamed did conquor by the sword and was a warlord, not exactly like our Jesus, who was so wonderful.

I think they are our enemy. I don’t like them at all.

Some people are going to choose to be offended no matter what. The world does not belong to such people alone.
How true. His Holiness knew exactly what he was doing by *quoting *that passage, i.e. continuing to point out the truth. Radical Islam has taken full advantage of the collective “sensitivity” of certain people in the West, notably the mass media/entertainment industry and very left-leaning political groups that themselves despise Christianity and especially the Catholic Church. They have cried “wolf” once too often.

As an American, I am sick of the Islamic world claiming that their horrific acts of terrrorism are the fault of my country. As a Catholic, I am even sicker of them blaming my church for things that happened centuries ago, especially when they were done in self-defense against their vicious attempt to dominate the world by bloodshed.

Who cares if they are happy with his comments or not! Personally I couldn’t give a sorry rats behind what they think.
Right on! They don’t consult us before making public statements, why should we? They were spoiled with JPII who looked for good in all. That was then this is now. Benedict is not wrong just different, and for good reason I am sure.
I stand by the Holy Father. Both of them.

The media is going to fuel the fire on this and I fear that things are going to turn as ugly as they did when those cartoons were released. I think we should all pray for the Pope’s safety and for the safety of our fellow Catholics in hardcore Islamist countries. I just heard of a small bombing at a Greek Orthodox school in Greece. The authorities are not sure there is a connection but the timing is suspicious.

I think the world has become so afraid to say anything critical of Islam yet there is always some kind of Christian bashing going on. Look at Madonna and her mock crucification. The backlash from Christians was protrayed as a silly thing in the media.

My question is, do Moslems generally believe that their religion was not spread by violence? Is it the same as Catholics who say there was a just reason for the Crusades? I’m not trying to be controversial, I’m looking for a bit of a history lesson here.

I think we should keep in mind that “scrambling” (with its air of panic and connotation of poor organization and/or preparedness) is one of those terms the media folks use to describe the actions of those of whom they don’t approve. If they like you they would say, for example, that you were “quick to defend. . .”
Regardless, now the Pope will have to grovel and appologize prior to his trip to Turkey much to the amuzement of the Muftis.

I’m pretty sure the PC machine will not cause this Pope to back down. I may be dreaming but maybe this will mark the beginning of the end of people having to back away from truthful statements because of the fear that someone, somewhere at some time might be offended.

This pope is great! As John the Baptist says, “Make the paths straight”.

Has anybody noticed how this is being reported on TV?

I just heard it brought up on two different stations and they BOTH butchered up what exactly he said.
“The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war,” the Pope said. “He said, I quote, ‘Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.”
They both left that last line out, completely butchering what the point the Holy Father was trying to make.

Here we go again…

Yea, where was the media’s outrage when Madonna refused to back down and respect the pleas of Christians to tone down her offensive display?

It’s OK for Madonna to offend Christians but God forbid Pope Benedict would offend those poor, precious muslims…

It’s interesting how no one has yet to actually engage the Pope’s comments; so far the response has been just to demand an apology or make a veiled threat. JP2 paved the avenues of conversation which B16 is now using. The thing is, meaningful dialogue cannot be one sided and its high time Muslim leaders accepted some criticism of their past. We’ve had an olive branch extended for some time…

The problem I see here is that radio stations and the media are going report on this story incorrectly and they will just end up stiring up the masses against each other.

Some of the radio stations are already attributing the quote the pope made as his own words.
I started a thread about the media pile-on over this, but it seems to me that “media experts” like Rosie O’Donnell are going to be speaking out the other side of their mouths now if they want to retain their “integrity” on violence-as-justified-by-Islam with their constituencies and fans.

Pope Benedict XVI is a GENIUS (actually the Holy Spirit, but you know what I mean).

If anybody – media or not – says anything about this, they diagram themselves; if silent, they diagram themselves.

Media response (including lack of it) is like they are posing for an X-Ray: We’re GOING to see what’s really inside. Turkish politicians and Indian Muslim extremists have already posed for their pictures. The media is in makeup now… Now that 72 hours or so has gone by since the speech…

I also read about Indian authorities seizing newspapers to prevent reprisals against Christians: an act of charity, no doubt.

Here is a quote from one of the Turkish foreign ministry spoksman which I find in direct agreement with the context of B16 comments:

“Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence” Tasmin Aslam

I truly hope that this is a sign that JP II’s naive one-way dialogue with Muslims is *over *and that Pope Benedict is going to show Western leaders by example that they won’t slow Islam’s assault on Western civilization with nervous smiles, submission, and PC-motivated hypocracy. By my reckoning of his statement, Benedict asked Muslims leaders to put their “religion of peace” money where their mouth is. He knew precisely what he was saying, that it would be easily misrepresented by those who chose to do so. That took great courage.

Today (Friday) was go-to-mosque day for muslims, and they’re fired up against the Pope by the imams and mullahs. I expect the Vatican just got added to many jihadi target lists. I think the Pope’s upcoming trip to Turkey just got cancelled too.

God help the Pope…and strengthen his Swiss Guards who may soon see how Islam responds to open debate.

Regardless, now the Pope will have to grovel and appologize prior to his trip to Turkey much to the amuzement of the Muftis.
Somehow, “grovelling” is not an activity I can associate with His Holiness.

The trouble with ‘dialogueing’ with the Muslims is that they don’t have one visable head, like we do. They have 1000’s a Mullahs, Imans, or whatever they call their pastors. Alot of them are irresponsble, and like to whip up their congregations into a fury. They are worse than some of these fundlementalist preachers, and they don’t allow women in the men’s side of the mosque to temper the atmosphere there, so it brews violence.

Please, lets not name call JPII for crying out loud.
Different time and situation- how can we judge? Maybe his approach was the best at that moment in time-
It’s easy to pick on someone who is no longer here to defend himself…

These Muslims remind me of my kids when they’re tired. You say to them, “you’re tired, you need to go to bed” and then they throw a tantrum and cry “I’M NOT TIRED!!!”

The Muslims are the same. You say "Islam is a religion that breeds violence and always had’, and the whole Islamic world has a major tantrum, threatens violence, makes death threats that someone dare say something so untrue against Islam.

FOX New’s John Gibson did a piece on this today… he was GREAT…

He defended what the Pope said, criticized what the media was leaving out… and said he agreed with what the pope said. He started his piece by saying “Well, the Muslims are mad again…”

John Gibson… you da man. God bless you.

.

Now is the time for us to support Pope Benedict XVI by praying the Rosary and calling on Mary especially under her title of Our Lady of Fatima.

It was no accident that Mary chose to appear in a place named after a favorite daughter of Mohammed.

🙂 👍
