Radical Muslims were waiting for their excuse to attack the Catholic Church.

You can almost bet, there will be terrorist attacks in the Vatican or at other Catholic places of worship.

Although the Pope spoke the truth concerning Islam, I think this was not the time to fan the flames of hostility, knowing how upsetting this would be to Muslims.

John Paul II The Great, would not have used more wisdom than Pope Benedict.
In fact, Islamic terrorists had worked out a plan to attack the Vatican, I believe it was in the 90s, and later abandoned the idea. (This was during the time of Pope John II). We all need to pray for the Pope’s safety. He’s proven he’s a courageous leader as well as the right man at the right time.

I have known only five popes, Pius XII, John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II and now Benedict XVI. I don’t recall any being hated by the world. JPII was loved by the world. Stirring up hatred is not going to be productive of much positive.

I think Benedict XVI’s remarks were simply ill chosen and that the Vatican will be able to pour some oil on troubled waters here.

John XXIII was much admired too - partly, I think, because he was perceived as being different from Pius XII. His *manner *was certainly more expansive. Paul VI was criticised because he was not John XXIII - IMO Paul VI had an impossible task. Benedict XVI is luckier than Paul VI, because he was so well-hated before becoming Pope that any good he is perceived as doing can only help him seem more attractive than he was thought to be. JP2 got the credit for being JP2, and for being even more expansive than John XXIII - while Ratzinger took the flak for his employer’s more “backward” decisions. So I doubt anything he says can do him serious damage.

Some Fundamentalist sites treat being loved by the world as a sure sign of damnation. It doesn’t seem to occur to them that people can be loved, not because they are worldlings at heart, but because worldlings misread their activities by mistaking style for substance. ##

All of your insights are interesting on here. I wonder if the pope will still be visiting Turkey? If so…do you think he might find himself in danger? I pray for him, but although I have read a few of his books…he has not captivated me with his speech and message, as Pope JP2 did…I am not judging this pope, but he should be preaching a message of unity…not badmouthing another religion. We as faithful Catholics should be hearing a message of hope, not that his message wasn’t hopeful, but it also seemed to sway to condemning another faith. I ask this question sincerely…of you all here…is it right to condemn another faith, or should we just witness our loving ways and emulate Christ, in order to bring people to Christ? I have a difficult time pointing the finger at someone who is not Christian and saying…‘you’re wrong, and you’re going to Hell.’ Know what I mean? Can someone help me better understand that??
This issue is too serious for you to comment on without taking the time to clearly understand what the Pope actually said. Like CNN and the news who only gloss over the facts much damage is done by not seeking the Truth.

Remember to seek Jesus is also to seek the truth and that is hard work. Before fanning the flames with false accusations, seek the truth of what our Pope said and then please come back and object to what he said.

Thanks!

Peace

something about this whole situation smells fishy. not once in the speech did he directly accuse islam of violence. the worst that he said was his quoute of the byzantium emperor, but right after that he stressed those were not his own words. so then why are so many muslims thinking those were his words? how is this news being reported in muslim areas vs ours? what is the text of what they are hearing and reading regrading what the holy father said? is it possible those who seek war in Iran perhaps might have twisted the popes words to make muslims angy, hence justifying a “war of civilizations” which includes a nuclear attack on Iran? I believe that is a very justified question considering that during the mohammad cartoon episode that the owner of the danish newspaper was himself connected to several prominent neo-conservative groups in the US and pressured his editors to print those cartoons as a way of forcing a division between muslims and the rest of the world
The Pope is not a neo-conservative and neither are the main stream press agencies that first publicized his words. God bless your active imagination, but watch out you could become paranoid.

Hey Einstein, where did i say that the pope and all MSP were neocons? if your seeking an active imagination, go look in the mirror. i clearly stated that the newspaper publisher and owner was connected to neocons. I would never misquoute you or claim you said things which you didnt say so i’ll ask you not to do the same with me.

All the support to Pope that only read a text from 1391, nothing more.

No apology, please Holy Father. To apologize is to jettison reason for temporary peace with the unreasonable.

I pray there will be no deaths, but if this flap follows the inevitable pattern there will be killing, and that will sit very heavily on our Holy Father’s soul. I pray even more for him.

He’s apologised  Are Muslims are ever not angry?

Really? I don’t read that as an apology, per se. He didn’t come out and say he’s sorry he said what he said, but that he’s sorry he offended. I think there’s a difference.

You do realize that the Pope’s remarks were not original to him, don’t you? The words he spoke were not ill-chosen by him. And if you don’t recall previous popes being hated by others you have either not lived long enough or you did not educate yourself at the time.

When is the time to speak the truth?
Always!! Homily of His Holiness, Sunday April 24,2005
And only when God is seen does life truly begin. Only when we meet the living God in Christ do we know what life is. We are not some casual and meaningless product of evolution. Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, Each of us is loved, and each of us in necessary. There is nothing more beautiful than to be surprised by the Gospel, by the encounter with Christ. There is nothing more beautiful than to know Him and to SPEAK TO OTHERS OF OUR FRIENDSHIP WITH HIM.

God Bless Benedict XVI, may his words be lead by the Holy Spirit. May He who is all good, all Holy, all forgiving, forgive us all. Even radicals for… Each of us is the result of a thought of God.

Mary
How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me?
the cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. Psalm 116: 12-13

I suppose… the people calling for an apology will think they’ve won though. 😦

He’s going to Turkey for a summit with the Eastern Orthodox leaders. I wonder if this will help or hinder reunification with them? They may see him as “stirring the pot” and making more trouble for them or they may see someone in the west who sees their day to day world.

Why is it that it’s okay for Muslims to call Christians and Jews “dogs”, “swine” and “infidels” (and, by the way, it is perfectly okay to kill infidels if they will not convert)? Not only aren’t we supposed to be offended by these words, we’re supposed to regard Islam as a “religion of peace”? I think it is telling that it took our Holy Father, a 79 year old man, to stand up and boldly take this issue on. It’s about time we had a true discussion of exactly what Islam does teach, instead of just gulping down without question what the mainstream media feeds us.

When is the time to speak the truth?
The Pope must speak the truth at all times, however, he must chose his words carefully.

Like I said, the radical Islamic world has been waiting for their excuse, and it has already begun. Two Churches in the west bank were firebombed Saturday, and the group claiming responsibility said it’s in response to the Pope’s speach.

Also, the news report this morning said that Pope Benedict is extremely upset over the reaction by the Muslims to his speach, and he said he intended no offense.

But so it begins. The Islamic radicals will accept no apology that doesn’t include the Pope’s death.

Radical Muslims were waiting for their excuse to attack the Catholic Church.
Right! They never attack with no excuse!
You can almost bet, there will be terrorist attacks in the Vatican or at other Catholic places of worship.
And there will even be priests shot in the back while at prayer in the churches!
Although the Pope spoke the truth concerning Islam, I think this was not the time to fan the flames of hostility, knowing how upsetting this would be to Muslims.
Right again! There must be some other time, some other place. Perhaps if he had just waited until jihadists learned about “reason” and its role v-a-v “faith.” I mean, surely there will be some time when this sort of rational discourse won’t be so “upsetting” to Muslims. Then, perhaps, the subject could have been gently broached.
John Paul II The Great, would not have used more wisdom than Pope Benedict.
Did you really mean to say, “not?” If so, I guess I can’t be sarcastic here!

Quickly! Contact him and let him know that you are available to edit his talks for proper content! The whole world recognizes his inability to communicate properly!
But so it begins. The Islamic radicals will accept no apology that doesn’t include the Pope’s death.
Well, and so it goes. We’ll just have to turn over Benedict so that the wonderful peace we have all been having will again be restored in the world. After all, it is better that one pope die than the whole world should be under jihad, no?

(and especially a pope that can’t choose the proper words!!!)
