Also, I want to add something about another part of your post, Jim.
Religion is not just a way to learn and worship. It is unity with God. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is in the heart. The kingdom of heaven is therefore engulfing us in this life, the unity with God stunningly available to us in this life. The Earth itself, is, actually, an outward part of God’s kingdom. Catholicism is not simply a tool we use. It is unity with God, God’s kingdom and the truth! It is all that you described heaven as being. Heaven is simply the completion of what we already have available to us here. We have the bed and blanket here on Earth, and dying and going to heaven simply provides the pillow to go with it.
In fact, I would dare to say that on Earth, we are capable of receiving just about everything God offers his children in heaven. It’s just that we don’t live long enough on Earth to get that intimate with God. Hence Purgatory.
Heaven is already inside of us. It is righteousness, peace, love and joy. It is the presence and holiness of God. Therefore heaven is not a different reality. It’s simply a completed reality. And we have it here on Earth, to immerse ourselves in.
