One small tid-bit that I didn’t mention earlier is that my daughters boyfriend of 2 years is talking to her about becoming a minister. So I think it may have started there. When I asked her about it she got defensive and swears that he has nothing to do with it, so, for now, I let it go at that, but I thinks I’m learning that there’s a lot more here than just changing religions because she believes in the religion herself, which ,to me, is a very bad decision. Which is why we need to get the books and learn together, if she’ll let me.
Right time right place I guess! an a lot of patience.

Mickey my prayers are with both you and your daughter, you are doing all the right things. Pray to Our Blessed Mother for you daughter.🙂

Elizabeth Ann; I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but the Catholic Church isn’t the only one who celebrates “Communion” or Eucharist as it’s called…The Bible clearly states…Jesus Himself said…“As often as you do this, do this in rememberance of ME”…it doesn’t say only Catholics may partake of the Body and Blood…Communion is what it is…“COMMUNION with THE LORD JESUS IN rememberance of his Sacrifice”…

If someone is taking Communion at their church…that is seen by the Lord as doing what he asked us to do…

I wish someday all churches would take down their “signs/titles” over the doors and worship the one True Holy ONE…JESUS CHRIST

The Catholic Church is one of only a very few churches that believes that communion, the Eucharist, is actually the body, blood, soul and divinity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church also has apostolic succession. Other churches have differing beliefs about communion, which is why they cannot receive the Eucharist in the Catholic Church and Catholics cannot receive communion in other churches. A divide exists there.

We all hope and pray for unity of all Christian churches! It is what God wants for all of us. Jesus prayed for unity among His disciples. But it is a disservice to ignore the differences between Christian denominations. Whether we like it or not, unity does not exist.

Mickey ask her what she likes about her new church and seek catholic churches that meet those needs. Maybe, your church needs to put together “youth worship” in the gym of your church to jazz up the mass a bit for the younger crowd, use some comtemporary christian type music.

Being a 19 year old female who recently went through some of what your daughter is going through, perhaps I can help a bit…

I was raised in a strong, supportive Catholic family and attended Catholic schooling all my life. Until I went to college this past fall, my knowledge of other Christian religions was very limited. All the friends I’ve made in the past few months are of various “born-again” faiths (my boyfriend is part of an Evangelical church). For awhile I was attending services with them occasionally and seriously questioning my Catholic upbringing. It’s interesting you mention her boyfriend because that definitely could have something to do with it…even if she claims it doesn’t, it could be a subconscious thing. I know that in the back of my mind I thought it would be cool to be able to share a faith with my boyfriend. Of course, her situation could be completely different than mine! All that aside, I believe this whole process is essential for many young adults to go through… they have to go from having a faith because their “parents said so” to having a faith because they believe it. Otherwise, it can’t be a true faith. Eventually, I came back around to the Catholic church again just recently…and my faith is much stronger (though I still have a ways to go!) because of it.

During this time of questioning, my parents basically just let me know that they were there for me if I ever wanted to discuss spiritual issues. They also encouraged me (but didn’t push me) to consult a priest if I had any questions.

I think the main thing, like others have said, is just to tell your daughter you love her no matter what. Ask her if she knows the differences between the faiths. If she doesn’t, offer to help her learn, or if there are any classes she can take, let her know about them. You can’t force anything of course, but let her know that even if she does decide to leave the Catholic faith, it’s important for her to know exactly WHAT she’s leaving. If she already understands the differences, then let it be. Let her know you’d be happy to discuss faith with her at any time, but don’t bring it up constantly. Pushing her will probably just cause her to rebel. Let her come to you when she’s ready, and in the meantime pray for her!

Thank you so much for your response. That is the route I intend to take, but coming from someone who’s been there help that decision very much. It is appreciated.

BTW: I got the book “My Life On the Rock” and it is very good. I am going to use it as one of you recommended.
Thank You.

Again!! I am saying…It should not matter what the “sign” on the door of the building says…just like it doesn’t matter about the color of our skin and if we are vegetarian or meat eaters…Gosh people!!! Can’t you stop being so “dogmatic” and just stick up for JESUS!!!

I heard a speach the last Pope made and he made a comment about how he knows where he will be when he dies because he “Believes on the Lord Jesus Christ as his Personal Saviour”…That sums it up pretty good…

If it’s good enough for the Pope I guess it’s good enough for the Assembly of God; Baptists; Methodists…I’m going to another forum that is clearly open to ALL!!

I know why my search for that “missing” somthing ended…I found what was missing…the messge that Jesus Saves All!

If all the denominations and the Catholic Church distinctions don’t matter, then why are you not Catholic (if you’re not, which it sounds like)?..

Edit:
And, yes, it’s hard being “dogmatic,” but I’m pretty sure Jesus said that it’d be rough following him…

Hey Daniel… I thought I knew you a bit better than that…

Next, someone will say…
let’s change the season of Lent… from fasting to glutony, from sacrifice to hogging, from prayer to social parties…
that way the younger crowd will be more interested.:bigyikes:

The Mass should not ever be “jazzed up”… although many of the liberal mind-set in the Catholic Church have been trying for 40 years to go that route…

Prayer and worship should be less contemporary and more comtemplative.

I cannot believe you people!!! Did you not read what I said…and how dumb is that question? People who do not know what they are talking about always “answer a question with a question”…I’m not catholic because I choose NOT to be…duh!! Freedom of RELIGION and Freedom of Persecution because of my choice of religion…the last time I checked this WAS America…

I just made the statement why should we be “tagged” when all that really matters is that we (here I go again!) all are serving the SAME GOD, SAME LORD AND SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST…does that name offend you? Heaven is not divided up into “denominations” and if it is…was Jesus Catholic? Can’t find that in my Bible!! I’m out of here…need some meaningul conversation from those that believe like me…not in the ONE TRUE CHURCH, but in the ONE TRUE SAVIOUR, MY LORD JESUS!! AMEN ANYONE???

So, the basis of Truth is America? I always thought it was the teachings of Christ … 😃

Jesus was the founder of the Catholic Church.
Can’t find that in my Bible!!
I can - Matthew 16:18.

Doesn’t the bible say that Jesus was a Jew? Then if Heaven was divided up into denominations Jews would be on top not Catholics or Protestants. Personally, I’m glad it is not. Like you, I believe in the ONE TRUE SAVIOUR, MY LORD JESUS and not in the ONE TRUE CHURCH.
Again, I say AMEN!

No Catholic believes “in” the Church – at least, not if they follow the Catechism of the Catholic Church. “We believe the Church … and not in the Church …” CCC 169.

We believe the Church because we believe in Jesus. Two different things.

Where in my post did I say that Catholics believe in the Catholic Church? I just stated that I believe in Christ and not in the church. I did not say what anyone else believes. I only said what I believe. The only Catholic I will speak for is my husband, because he gave me the right to do so.

Well… You went ahead, and joined a CATHOLIC forum, sited at a web address catholic.com, and filled out a profile for the CATHOLIC Answers forum name you registered… Did you expect we were not Catholic?..

But, seriously, if it does not matter about what we “tag” ourselves, why care about it? <<Honest question.

No, He was a Jew. But He founded and is the current head of the Catholic Church.
Actually, He is the “forever” head of the Church.😃

He is now… as is everyone in heaven Catholic
