Dear Brother JR,
First of all I’m so sorry to hear about your sister who passed away last month. :hug1: :flowers:

I’m also sorry I didn’t comment earlier your story is somewhat similar to my grandmother (I’ll have to PM you about this) and I couldn’t comment at the time.

It’s very painful when someone you love dies.

Prayer for the Deceased Person and for Mourners

Lord Jesus, our Redeemer, You willingly gave Yourself up to death so that all people might be saved and pass from death into a new life. Listen to our prayers; look with love on Your people who mourn and pray for their dead brother/sister. Lord Jesus, You alone are holy and compassionate; forgive our brother/sister his/her sins.

By dying You opened the gates of life for those who believe in You; do not let Your brother/sister be parted from You, but by Your glorious power give him/her light, joy, and peace in heaven where You live for ever and ever. Amen.

I want to thank everyone who is praying for my sister and my biological family. I’m sure that she will be praying for all of you from heaven. I have certainly been praying for you, in thanksgiving for your charity.

I just returned from a two-day Respect Lfe Conference sponsored by the Florida Bishops. It was awesome. An entire afternoon was dedicated to euthanasia and the death penalty. It was sad to hear how many Catholics and Christians of other traditions either don’t see anything wrong with euthanasia or don’t understand the moral implications. There were many questions and answers too.

The conference was attended by 400 people from around the state. I was amazed that people did not know the answer to the most basic question. “What is an extraordinary measure?” We need to get the word out there.

It was also frightening to find out how the state is is giving more power to insurance companies and hospice workers to decide when it’s time to terminate a life. Some hospices have now instituted a practice of keeping three syringes at the bedside of the patient.
  1. for pain
  2. for anxiety
  3. lethal injection
All it takes is one word from the surrogate to use the third injection. What people don’t realize is that te pain killers being administered gradually kill the patient. After prolonged use, the heart is weakened until the patient dies of cardiac arrest. The doctors prescribing them know this is the final effect.

Another thing that I learned was the hospice can only keep a patient for six-months. The patient must die within that time or the state will come after them.

As one theologian said, “We were once a Christian nation. We are no more. We are now a nation with a few Christians.”

We are losing our humanity. I will begin a tour around different parts of the state speaking on this issue. I’m looking for men who want to be educated on end-of-life issues.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂
