The best I’ve found is this:

lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f318118dd536c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=c608144e3813a110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&hideNav=1

But, this doesn’t talk about how it all started, it only addresses the God of our world.

Again, in charity please point me or explain it to me.
You found a good site. The only problem is that you have misconstrued it as “only address[ing] the God of our world.” It addresses the God Who created the universe, not simply our world.

Warning, I’m about to quote from the Pearl of Great Price; not to prove a ‘truth,’ but to illustrate what we believe about things.

Moses 1:33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.

What does the above mean? Why, it means that we believe that God created the Universe, by His Son. All of it. That means that when we address God the Father, we are addressing the Deity Who created all things, by His Son.

@DianaIad

So which God do you worship? The God of this world (Universe) or the God he worshipped when he was a man?

Dianaiad likes to try and make you feel bad about asking here. Ask away. If I knew the answers, I would tell you.
I haven’t been around long enough for you to know what I ‘like’ to do, Diana. I’m simply pointing out that this might not be the best place to get the most accurate information, and I gave the reason why I think that.

I mean, is it really a good idea to go to a German dictionary to get the definition of a Spanish word?

Which is why I asked for a link that would explain these things, and I am still open to one.

If I am on a German Language forum and people are there talking Spanish, I shouldn’t ask them to point me to the Spanish Dictionary? Specifically, where in the Spanish dictionary I can find the definition I am looking for?

The sub-forum is entitled Non-Catholic religions. It made perfect sense to me.

The reason I answered as I did was due to your intial first response to me that was hardly warm and it basically set the tone for how I received your responses going forward. I asked an honest question from a genuinely curious place and was met by less than a receptive answer. My opinion/reply was accurate based on my experience.

I apologize, but I entered the conversation with a new idea, not a response to anybody. If I offended, forgive me it was not the intent.

Does that explanation of existence satisfy your need for the meaning of life, for the meaning of your existence, for your desire to know the meaning of everything?

I think this is why I can’t find an attraction, in my heart, to the LDS claim, the fact the LDS church doesn’t address the deepest desires of my heart: Why do I exist, what is the meaning of everything, what is my purpose?

I don’t want to be a God of another world, I want the satisfaction of being in the infinite presence of God who explains everything.

If after reflection, the LDS church does satisfy the deepest needs of a person’s heart, it would be wrong for me to ask them to leave, because they would have to betray their own heart.

Thank you for the insight and cordial conversation.
Tim: In fact, one of the very reasons I became an LDS Christian is that very thing - it has addressed my heart. Why do I exist? Because I am a Son of God and it is His will that I follow in His footsteps and become like Him. Because we, as sons and daughters of God, can become more than just “in the infinite presence of God”, but rather we fulfill an Eternal destiny of growth and creation.

With all due respect, I believe that if you were to look at the LDS position with a conversant LDS believer, you might find answers previously unattained. This forum is not a wonderful place for study, but a great place for comments. I’d love to have a private conversation with you - not with a mind to “convert” you, but rather to converse without interruption. ormsbyhome@gmail.com if you are so inclined.

Sounds good. timl@me.com on the journey together then.

tjlarsen, my response was to dianaiad, not to you my dear. I was the originating OP on this subject, so you and I are in the same boat!!! 🙂

Wow.

I just read 14 pages of this thread. It caught my interest because a good friend is leaving paganism and converting. His ex-GF (and mother of his 2 children) left paganism and became a Mormon (given some of the things I have learned here, it wasn’t too far a stretch from what she practiced before). She is trying to convince him to give up all parental rights so her fiance can adopt them. But that’s completely off track…

I am, after reading all this, convinced that Mormonism is a very dangerous cult. I came to that purely on the doublespeak and evasiveness of those claiming to be Mormon that posted here. Thanks for the heads up.

I’ll be signing an affadavit about the woman’s behavior with the children that I have witnessed.

Wow. Just Wow.
I think Joseph Smith was on some bad drugs. (And that Temple description sounds pretty darn tootin’ pagan to me.)

You guys are in the white shirts, right? I read that in here somewhere…

How is this helpful?

so this is the LDS doctrine of eternal progression. it encompasses that God was once a man like us, there are infinite Gods out there, We can become Gods ourselves. logical analysis shows us that this presents some thorny issues such as who was Gods (Elohim) savior that atoned for his sins? who will be the savior for our worlds that we create and populate?

this is probably the most dangerous aspect of mormonism. the perpetuation of Satan’s first/best temptation.

your missionary attempt is obvious. of course you have a mind to convert and wish to promote your beliefs without any counterpoints. don’t drink the koolaid and careful feeding the trolls…they bite

If Catholicism is the whole truth, which I think it is, then it will always have a stronger correspondence with my heart and I should have nothing to fear in a conversation about any other claims of religion.

No conflict. There is no “giving in marriage” in heaven. That is why it must be done as an earthly ordinance.
So this distinguishes this post from your others because the others were not serious?
BIG CONFLICT, mfbukowski.

Marriage is a sacrament on Earth. It is not for all time: “until death do you part.”

St Mark’s Gospel (12:18-27) is in DIRECT CONFLICT with mormon teaching on “celestial marriage.”

The Sadducees posit a question about multiple wives to Jesus: He answers that there is no marriage in Heaven.

Maybe that Seer Stone prevents you from reading Sacred Scripture (the Bible) in a straightforward manner.

People are never converted by a discussion of doctrine. They are always converted through a witness of a life lived.

Let us Catholics start to live life’s that are so attractive, that the attraction of our witness brings people to Christ.

The witness always starts with Charity which only comes from our Hope which only comes from the correspondence that Christ has to the needs of our heart. It is only in Christ that we find the answer to everything.

“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”.

“Master, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words that explain life.”

“Mormon 'gyms?”
We don’t have ‘gyms.’ These areas, which we call ‘cultural halls’ are not separate areas. We have them arranged so that they can be used for basket ball, and there is usually a stage at one end, while the other end is separated from the chapel by folding doors, so that they can be used for extra seating during conferences and performances.
“Mormon gyms” is a euphemism for your church buildings, or ‘stakes.’

As to the game: no mormon team wanted to play a non-mormon team in the city league, so we approached them (5 parishes in Riverside, Ca) with the idea of an ecumenical experiment. The Ward Bishop insisted all game were to be played in the stake’s ‘cultural hall’ with referees provided by each stake. We protested, but it was a “take it or leave it” situation. Father Leon (of St Francis de Sales) reminded us to be charitable and do so. After two games, Father Leon realized we were in an L-shaped ambush and we pulled out.

Clannish people do not a community make.
