Jeff, you need to seek out the 3 CD set by Catholic Answers about the apologist Tim Staples. (I met Tim in 2004 and he appears on Catholic Answers Life (radio show). His 3 CD set is called “Jimmy Swaggert Made Me Catholic”. You should purchase this and listen to it. I have a copy and it’s wonderful and refreshing!

Since your mother has seen this BIG change in you, I’m sure that as you continue to live your lilfe, you may be able to share your faith, in actions than words. AND Mike wanting to be Catholic…this could ‘rub off’ onto your mom…you never know.

Tim Staples is from North Carolina and once you hear him speak, you’ll know what I mean. Since my meeting him in 2004, we’ve had some correspondence between each other. Tim sometimes appears on the Fourms and he knows the Lord and refuting those who challenge the Catholic Faith.
Jeff, you can’t go wrong with learning the apologetics of your faith!
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll look for this. By the way, my mother thinks it’s great that Mike has found such a deep spirituality too. She’s noticed a change in him as well. She thinks he should keep going to the Catholic church too, based on what she’s observed of him lately.

Jeff, I am sooo glad that you are back and things are settling down at your house now. I will continue to pray for Cliff because he is in dire need of prayers. I hope that he returns to the Lord before it is too late. Now you can concentrate on your faith and your relationship with God. Are you back in RCIA? How is that going?

Thank you for your continued prayers. I’m not back in RCIA. I guess I’ll have to wait until the fall to enter. Maybe my health will better by then anyway.

It is so great that you can talk with your mother about spiritual things now! What a joy it must be, that this is possible…

Yes, it’s been great to talk to her about God and spiritual matters. Even though she doesn’t agree with my particular branch of Christianity, she recognizes me as a Christian and she’s happy about that. I regard her in the same manner. What a refreshing change. Remember how everything in this house was a month ago?

By the way, if any of you can recommend some good Bible study books, apologetics books, and Church history books, please post your recommendations here. Catholicism and Fundamentalism has already been recommended to me, and I’ll be buying that before the end of the week. I love to read, and I want to start realle learning about the Catholic faith, especially if I’m not going to be able to enter RCIA until this fall.

H Jeff! I will think of some good recommendations and post them later. I wanted to tell you that tomorrow night on EWTN’s show “Life on the Rock” there is going to be a guy who had once lived the homosexual lifestyle and now is a spokesperson for a Christian organization that helps people who are trying to live to Christian standards.

You can listen to/watch them live from the website if you don’t have the radio/TV access to EWTN in your area.

Talk to you soon–Rebecca

the math. The time frame versus the change in lifestyle/faith is utterly amazing.

the thing that strikes me about this thread is the incredible amount of change that has happened since your join date of Dec. 18th. Thats a little more than 2 months. only 8 weeks.
Thats an amazing testament to the changes God can make in our lives.

I said a Divine Mercy chaplet for all the posters on this thread today, may Christ guide you this lent and always.

Here’s the site to Listen and View EWTN over the Internet.
The Navarre Study Bible is most recommended as a Catholic Study Bible. This is the one I hear recommended by people on Catholic Ansers Live.

Jeff, to know your Faith you need to get a Catechism of the Catholic Church. It’s a BIG read but a Must read. To learn about the CCC, you should find tapes and CD by Fr. John Corapi. His is an excellent speaker and relates how is former life in drugs was dissolved and he became a Catholic Priest.

Earlier I recommed that you get a hold of Apologicts matterial by Tim Staples, another person to consider is John Martingioni. His website www.biblechristiansociety.com has FREE Apologetic tapes and CD/s. You can’t beat Free and they are good too.

Thanks, Rebecca. If I had logged in earlier, I could have watched it already. It’s okay, though. I checked the onscreen menu on my satellite service and it’s being rerun at 1:00 am. I’ll set my VCR so I won’t miss it. I’ll let you know what I think of it.

By the way, something you may find interesting: The cable and satellite companies here provide EWTN because we have an enormous South American immigrant population here. most of the businesses here have bilingual signs, and the Catholic parishes here have Spanish and English Masses. We have a lot of Spanish langauge cable and satellite channels here too. I was surprised at his when I moved here a few years ago. I didn’t expect North Carolina to be so multicultural.

Thank you for saying the chaplet. God bless you.

That original post on December 18 seems so long ago. It’s hard to believe it’s only been just over two months.

Thank you, I’ll look him up.

I looked up the Navarre Study Bible on amazon.com. Why is it divided into multiple volumes? It looks really interesting.

I’ve been wanting to get a Catechism. As soon as I’m able, I’m going to buy one.

Everyone, please pray for me. I’m getting beat up a little by some Baptists. I’m reading Catholic Answers and doing some Internet research in order to learn. As soon as I feel able to go to the Catholic bookstore (which is a one hour drive away) I’m going to buy Catholicism and Fundamentalism .

The Study Bible is divided because there it is how it was developed. Each book took time to develop a study guide for. And since there is a vital need for a Catholic Study Bible (since there has never been one) the publishers wanted to get it out in segments.

I’m sure you know very well Jeff that with Baptists, you’re gonna need to use the Bible only. Baptists won’t consider any outside material than the Bible. And about the books that the Protestant Churches took out of their Bible, you won’t be able to use them, for they don’t recognize them as books in the Bible.
Pray about what you find and you’ll be fine!

I saw it was on (5pm my time, I live in California), but I couldn’t watch it because my kids are too young to hear a frank discussion about sex. My 2 year old probably wouldn’t get it, actually, but its TMI for my 9 year old. I don’t know if I have mentioned I am a mommy before, come to think of it! I am 5 months pregnant with #3.

That is very interesting. I expect it out here. We speak some Spanish around the house(not very well!) just to get our kids familiar with the sound of the language, and my 9 year old is in public school learning Spanish too!

That’s interesting. All Bibles, regardless of language, have to be approved by the Magesterium, correct? Also, what about the Catholic Study Bible, New American Bible? Is that a good one?
