List of Jobs that SDA can’t hold

Military
Police
Firefighters
Paramedics and other Ambulance types
Nurses
Doctors

I guess these are the essential ones.

If I left something out, please add!
You are the most ignorant one I have met on here and that is why I haven’t talked to you til now.

Is the pope just a really great guy, or is he God?

Is Mary holy?
The Pope is not God, nor does he claim to be, despite what the SDAs or other sects claim.

I would hardly expect God would choose an unholy woman to be the mother of His Son.

Do you worship her?
NO!

We give her honor due to her role in salvation history. We call her a queen since her Son is the ultimate King, and in Israel the mother of the king was given the title Queen Mother (like in Britain). However, we do not giver her the worship that belongs to God alone, despite what some sects claim. Years ago I was listening to a fundamentalist named Brother Stair on my shortwave that claimed the Pope was going to become vicar of Jerusalem and offer animal sacrifices to the Virgin Mary- VERY off the reservation! :whacky: :banghead:

BTW if you were to attend Mass, you would notice that Mary is rarely mentioned; perhaps once or twice, when we ask her and the saints to pray for us.

goitalone - you are correct in that many Catholics are ignorant of the SDA beliefs. Please forgive us our ignorances and correct us when we say something that is incorrect.

I learned that many SDA are also ignorant of Catholic beliefs when an SDA pastor told me that Catholics eliminated the second commandment and worshipped images, they were canibals, and that the Pope was the head of the Catholic Church instead of Christ, and that the Pope changed the Sabbath to Sunday, that Catholics thought the Pope could never make a mistake. All falsehoods that are still propagated by the SDA church.

So you see that it does go both ways. Were you taught incorrectly any of the above?

Eden: Jesus chose Sunday. The Resurrection took place on Sunday.

WHAT???

(I am going to act like you people now)

WHERE does it say anything about Sunday in the Bible??? 😛

Ok check this out, ALL of you say no one knows what day the Sabbath is etc etc etc., then half of you turn around and tell me stuff like this.

If you see that it was Sunday when He rose then how can you not see what I am talking about about Saturday? Niether are in the Bible you say.

Scripture talks about Sunday much in the Bible, just as it talks about Saturday. What scripture does not do is command any christian to observe the Jewish Sabbath.

GoItAlone, the difference between us and you is that you are claiming to base your beliefs soley on scripture, with which you cannot determine when the Sabbath day actually is due to the intereference of the man made date line. Nor can you follow scripture when living in area’s of the earth that do not allow for 24 hour sundown to sundown periods.

The people on this forum are trying to show you the impossible premise of your position of following the Sabbath. We do not believe in Sola Scripture, so it doesnt matter whether the Bible says anything about Sunday or not, it does tell us who has legitimate authority on Earth, and it is not the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and their Biblical interpretations.

K, well I turned on a online Cathoilic TV program and all I saw was a room full of sisters lol praying to Mary for about an hour…I got bored and left.

Is Mary holy?
The pope is the successor of Peter the Apostle. As to whether he is a “great guy”, I have never met him, but I like to think he is.

Yes Mary is holy. Scripture tells us that Mary was “full of grace”, if one is full of God’s grace, then there is no room for sin, as you cant add anything to a cup that is already full.

I am sorry if I sounded mean there…I don’t know a whole lot about Catholics either you correct about that.

How do you know it’s talking about Sunday? (again acting like a cathloic here lol) when there is no mention of Sunday?

(thats not a question, but sarcasim from all the stuff I went through about the Saturday thing)

Do you worship her?
Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 2133-2141:
2133 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deut 6:5).

2134 The first commandment summons man to believe in God, to hope in him, and to love him above all else.

2135 “You shall worship the Lord your God” (Mt 4:10). Adoring God, praying to him, offering him the worship that belongs to him, fulfilling the promises and vows made to him are acts of the virtue of religion which fall under obedience to the first commandment.

2136 The duty to offer God authentic worship concerns man both as an individual and as a social being.

2137 “Men of the present day want to profess their religion freely in private and in public” (DH 15).

2138 Superstition is a departure from the worship that we give to the true God. It is manifested in idolatry, as well as in various forms of divination and magic.

2139 Tempting God in words or deeds, sacrilege, and simony are sins of irreligion forbidden by the first commandment.

2140 Since it rejects or denies the existence of God, atheism is a sin against the first commandment.

2141 The veneration of sacred images is based on the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word of God. It is not contrary to the first commandment.

Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs 150 and 178 said:
150 Faith is first of all a personal adherence of man to God. At the same time, and inseparably, it is a free assent to the whole truth that God has revealed. As personal adherence to God and assent to his truth, Christian faith differs from our faith in any human person. It is right and just to entrust oneself wholly to God and to believe absolutely what he says. It would be futile and false to place such faith in a creature

178 We must believe in no one but God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Last I checked Mary is/was a creature. Catholic’s do not worship Mary.

You might want to READ THE WHOLE CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church) and Learn for yourself what the Catholic Church really teaches!

I can tell you when I want to learn about Adventist I go to adventist.org/ and read what THEY have to say.

Maybe you can go to usccb.org/catechism/text/ and read what the CCC has to say.

May God bless you!

Well I don’t see that being the case, but ok, you have at it. 😛

I thought I already answered that sorry… we know because we believe in both written and Oral tradition as passed on through the Church. Scripture tells us that 1) The church is the foundation of all truth. 2) That hell will never prevail against the Church. 3.) Whatever is bound on earth is bound in heaven.

Since heaven cannot bind something that is wrong, and the church cannot teach something wrong because if it did, Hell would have indeed prevailed… based on Christs promises to the Church, we can believe the teachings of the Church. That is how I know!

Um…what church?

Interesting, please tell me what you believe prayer is?
Being an ex SDA you should know without me having to tell you I would think.

I tell you one thing, it’s not about praying to Mary.

Well I don’t see that being the case, but ok, you have at it. 😛
What part dont you see as being the case… the Pope as the successor of Peter, or Mary being full of Grace?

The succession of the Papacy can easily be traced back through to the apostles, and Peter was the bishop of Rome, just as the Pope is the Bishop of Rome.

If you dont believe that Mary was full of Grace, then you reject scripture, and we must have a whole other conversation. 😉

(Luke 1:28 NASB) And coming in, he said to her, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

“favored one” = G5487. charitow, from G5485; to make graceful, endow with grace:-- favored(1), freely bestowed(1).

This is the same root used to describe Christ in John 1.

(John 1:14 NASB) And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, **full of grace **and truth.

In addition, scripture tells us that ALL GENERATIONS will called Mary blessed.

(Luke 1:48 NASB) "For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.
