The divorse rate for FIRST marriages is 20% the “ridiculously high” comes from people married 2, 3…8 times.

You people need to get your heads out of the 1950’s. It is not worse
Technologically, it’s better. But that’s true of most ages. Even the Dark Ages, while skimpy in written work, made tremendous advances in metalworking and horse gear.

Morally, it’s not better. Abortion is legal and we pay for it (that requires quite the acceptance on the part of us Christians). Human experimentation, known as embryonic stem cells, is embraced. Gay marriage is/will be legal (and the discrimination lawsuits have already started). We have cameras on street corners. We’re told what kind of light bulbs we can have. We are forced to buy insurance. Most people sleep around and literally laugh at all the “virgins” out there. The list is endless.

If you want to play the statistics game, we can. I can dig up dozens of statistics “proving” the state of marriage is a joke. You can then dig up dozens of statistics “proving” it’s not that bad at all. It’s a fun game. It’s like that kid game where kid A says to kid B “My pile of action figures is bigger” so I’m right. You can see it in action at the Presidential debates. Quite fun. It makes each person sound intelligent and researched, but there is no truth there.

But one of the reasons for your statistic of 1st marriages is that fewer people are getting married without living together or, lets call it what it is, shacking up. As more people cohabitate(whatever that is), I expect that the marriage survival rate will eventually skyrocket to around 95%. Why? Because the only people getting married will be those that actually value marriage as a sacred vow not only between a guy and gal, but more importantly with God.

As to your comment about the DC suburbs, I live outside of DC. Those aren’t real churches. There’s a massive one being built just down the road from me. They peddle the same feel good pollyanna, “don’t judge”, philosophy that has successfully twisted Christianity. Church has become a feel good square filler to a great many of these folks. That is not renewal. It’s the same bury your head in the sand mentality that the Catholic church has/had regarding the child abuse situation. Just once, I’d like to see the Pope get up there and give a clear brutally honest speech on the abuse issue broadcast on youtube and as many news networks as possible. Not a translated speech or written missal or some other lightweight message, but a real heartfelt message, the kind you find in the gospels and in Paul’s letters. And if he lacks the health or linguistic ability, I’m sure he can stand behind one of the cardinals who will give that speech. A united front for truth would be quite the rallying call.

It’s kind of sad. The only time people see the real ugly underneath is after some horrific catastrophe. But at that point it’s too late. Yes, the 1950s had significant problems (like any age because of our fallen nature), but the movement was in a positive direction. Today, it’s just the opposite.

And chevalier, if you’re using the Zerg, make sure you use Dark Swarm all the time for you melee units. The Terrans have heck with that combo.

Alas, Nec, I prefer to blueflame the Zergs as a Terran while thors are making for the SCV repair push. But we can still be buddies? I did get the Zerglot achievement.

Never married, and I knew early on in life that it was not the life for me. So I never had to give up hope. There is nothing wrong with being single.
Better to be alone, than to wish you were…I always say!!!

👍

Just turned 26 this week. Never married. Currently single and looking. Chad417642 on Catholic Match :D.

I’m married now but sympathize with the struggles of finding a spouse. I went through my fair share of dating challenges before finally finding my husband. I don’t disagree that the dating pool is somewhat poisoned, but let me give you a perspective as someone who spent her dating years in a city where there is a huge dating pool of single, devout Catholics.

I noticed that there are huge groups of Catholic singles here and it’s almost like there are too many and it leads to perpetual adolescence. Most of these people are still acting like they’re in college. They have five hundred friends and they go to Theology on Tap, and Bible studies, and daily mass and yet they still can’t manage to find a spouse  It’s like they enjoy the thrill of getting to know all these people from the opposite sex and yet they never want to make the sacrifices required to settle down and start a family.

I’ve heard every excuse in the book from my single friends/acquaintances/exes for their indecisiveness and inaction. They don’t usually admit it or look at it this way, but most of their excuses are all about why other people aren’t good enough. Well guess what? If you look for all the flaws in a person and refuse to keep an open mind, then yes, nobody will every be good enough. Not holy enough. Not smart enough. Not attractive enough. Not sociable enough. The list goes on and on. I can’t tell you how many devout, decent young Catholic men I knew and dated as a single woman and they just had no clue how to make a relationship work. If I sensed a good guy liked me I would do everything I could to encourage him without outright asking him out and yet he still seemed to quake in fear and indecisiveness and never really make any assertive moves. One guy I actually did get close to marrying until he freaked out that I was being too emotional and moody while my parent was dying from cancer. He said I was using it as an “excuse” to have a bad attitude. 🤷

Anyway, I’m so grateful God brought me my “revert” husband who doesn’t have half the baggage or cynicism I unfortunately see in many young single Catholics. They don’t even realize how jaded and insecure they have become. I’m not writing this to insult anybody. I’m just saying a positive attitude, humility, and open-mindedness go a VERY long way. I hope God will bless all of you with marriage if it’s best for you.

Well I won’t go into all the reasons I left the dating pool except too. Frustration with the lack of people willing to take a chance and lack of honesty out there. It’s a tough dating world these days and I frankly just don’t need all the drama people seem to want to go into. It of appears the days of getting to know someone are over. Everyone goes in head first and then wonders why they go through so many relationships.

Never married and happy with that. Considered a religious vocation and still haven’t ruled it out but I got the impression God was not calling me in that way.

Marriage is not something I want to rush into until the time comes.

I also would not insist on a Catholic spouse, as a mixed marriage child whose Catholic parent raised me just fine, but of course the spouse would have to be okay with my beliefs.

Yup, never married. Hope to be though in a few years, with God’s blessing 🙂

Wow, he sounds like a swell guy! Lol.
I’m happy that God led you to the right one though eventually 🙂 may God continue to bless your marriage!

And did I just read some StarCraft talk?
Protoss here! 😃

This is me! I’ve never been married, and I’ve never had a longing for marriage. 🙂

To Norseman82: I agree with you that the dating pool is poisoned.

I’ve never been married and am a recent convert in my late 20s. It’s all about God’s timing, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get antsy about it every now and then…

Like after watching tonight’s episode of Doctor Who. Sometimes I feel like I’m heading down the same road as that Amy (no spoilers here!) 😦

But, generally speaking, I’m praying for His grace and becoming more patient.

Never married, never even had a girlfriend.

And yes, I am very sad, and very, very lonely. TwT

So what’s your Starcraft account number, again?
I wouldn’t touch the sequel with all their absurd time limits for campaign stages. Yuck. And still only 3 races? Blah.

About the only thing I play anymore are Rome: Total War and Medieval 2. And getting married in both those games is easy: A wife is presented to one of your generals and you either say yes or no for each of your generals.😃

Of course, all your generals die around 60 years of age (if not in combat), so it’s a bummer. Also, why is Burger King putting guacamole on a hamburger? That has to be a venial or cardinal sin or something. Seriously.

Ouch. TwT

I don’t actually have one though. 😛

On the other hand, had you said something along the lines of: “So, who are you pairing yourself up with in your latest fan fic? Hinata from Naruto? Chi from Chobits?”

Yeah, now THAT would have been painful. TwT

Sounds better than the visual novels I’ve seen my fellow anime-nerds play. >_<;;
