God certainly will judge those who desecrate His precious body and Blood. Also those who teach it’s no big deal for the Eucharist to be desecrated.

They are guilty of crucifying the Lord.
Truly, TRULY we are all guilty of crucifying the Lord.

And yet the church I so reluctant to tell people precisely when they are sinners

We should throw out bad people. Catholicism is a religion, not a community centre.
If by “bad” you mean “People who don’t keep the rules” or “people who don’t believe precisely the same things,” then that’s how Protestantism got to 44,000 different denominations, or whatever the number is. Then there’s the Great Schism, where East and West threw each other out, a scar that persists to this day. “Throwing out bad people” on the scale you’re proposing solves nothing.

True. That’s why we need to bring conversion to those who claim to be Catholic, but just pick and choose what they like. While technically Catholic by baptism and confirmation, cafeteria Catholics and the like are just Catholic in name only. They are often very stubborn too and refuse to conform to the Truth. Thats exactly why we NEED strong homilies and the like. If we don’t encourage these people to follow the Truth, then we are basically agreeing with their erroneous point of view.

So Christ made a point of picking out 12 people to intimately follow him. Were these the same people who would pass or fail a “goodness” test? Methinks the latter.

The Church is a hospital for sinners, not a club for saints. (Where did I hear that? Oh, yeah on Catholic Radio).

I’m surprised that no one has posted the Monty Python video on the Spanish Inquisition yet.

Back when 80% of Catholics attended church, I would strongly suspect most of them would have been “turned away at the door”. Remember that most of the attendees were reading holy cards and praying individually rather than collectively at Mass. A lot couldn’t quote a lot out of the Baltimore Catechism, even they knew it existed.

Blessings,
Stephie

Nowadays, its like 10% of all Catholics (in America) attend Mass regularly, yet of that 10% only 50% regularly Confess yet probably 90% receive Communion

I agree, the wanton attitude toward the Body of Our Lord and the widespread desecration of the Eucharist is a massive problem.
To get technical about it, if you are not in a state of mortal sin, you are only required to confess once a year. Unless you are following people around to see how many times they confess, you have no way of knowing.

Also, did you ever stop to think people receive Communion frequently because they love Our Lord and want to be with Him, not in a spirit of “wanton desecration” or just shuffling up there following the crowd? Unless you are a mind reader like Padre Pio, you have no idea what people are thinking when they receive. Furthermore, if the church attendance has drastically declined, it makes sense that the small percentage who are involved with their faith enough to keep attending are involved enough to appreciate receiving and want to receive Our Lord.

Before I returned to regular practice of my faith a few years ago, I had many years where I failed to go to confession including missing the once-a-year requirement because I was afraid of confession. My Mass attendance was also sporadic during this time, however when I attended I did receive because I still wanted to be with the Lord despite recognizing that I was a mess. I said many prayers along the lines of “Be merciful to me, a sinner,” and “Lord please help me and be with me because I don’t have a freaking clue spiritually right now.” When I returned to the Church and went back to confession, I confessed all this along with many other things i did. How do you or I know that the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist all those years, whom I had never had ANY intent to disrespect or defile by receiving Him, did not help bring about this change in my life?

You need to start looking at people through the eyes of compassion and mercy, as fallible humans, not as a bunch of wanton sleaze bags so much less holy than your sainted self and everybody who went to church in the 50s.

Indeed, how does Jesus look upon them, or, I should say, upon us?

With great love.

Those terms are all the truth. They are, at very best, nominally Catholic. If you claim to be Catholic, but act/say/believe stuff diametrically opposed to the Truth, then basically you are just a Catholic in name only. A true Catholic submits themselves totally to the Truth without question.

Yes, we all sin. However, the CINOs don’t care about sin at all. That’s why you never see anyone at confession or asking Father for confession after Mass. 🤷‍♂️

I get what you are saying. I suggest that you seek a second opinion, and ask a priest about this.

I’m sorry to tell you that that is not what the Eucharist is for. If you are in a state of mortal sin, for example by missing mass and confession, the body and blood of our Lord is spiritual poison.

When I went back to Confession after 18 years and lots of bad stuff to confess, I was fully prepared to be yelled at and lectured and told I had been very very bad.

Instead the priest sincerely expressed happiness about my being there and said it was God and the Holy Spirit working in me that had brought me there. I cried.

Saint John Vianney tells us that people who receive communion in a state of mortal sin are imitating and renewing the crime of Judas. He says it the gravest of all mortal sins. It is NOT something that people can just go and eat willy nilly.

The Lord and the One True Church. 🤷‍♂️
As I envy your faith (it is similar to the faith I enjoyed in my younger, Protestant days), I’ll cry off this line of discussion.

Glad to have you in the Church, Melodeonist, even as that comes from a vile, supposed “Cafeteria Catholic”.

Where is your evidence that people just go eat it willy nilly? You and the other person seem to be assuming that if most people go to communion rather than sit in the pew, “most people” must be both in a state of mortal sin and also not be thinking at all about the fact that they are receiving Jesus.

Unless you have personally interviewed everyone going up to Communion, you have no idea about either point, and unless you are a priest in the confessional, you have no idea if a person’s sins are mortal or not.

This whole argument of you and the other poster is coming from a viewpoint that the practicing Catholics at Mass going to Communion are mostly a bunch of terrible sinners who shouldn’t be allowed to be there. You apparently do not include yourself in this group. Can you not see the assumptions and judgments you are making?

Yet in the same breath you want more people to go to Mass. Why would you want that if people are as immoral as the pictures you paint? I should think you’d be clapping your hands that everybody is staying away so Jesus can just die for the dozen or so people who in your view are holy enough to merit Him.
