And if children are part of the deal in a catholic marriage…then infertile couples would not be allowed to get married
and women who have gone through menopause would not be allowed to get married.
ever think of that ?

Oh and one more thing for y’all…
how is NFP open to God giving Life?

if a married couple never has intercourse, gee, guess what,no pregnancy!

so NFP prevents what God is “trying to send” too!

Fancy name for birth control.

Isnt the biggest problem with birth control pills that not only are most abortifacients but that they provide an excuse for abortion? What is someone to do when the pill fails and they really dont want a child? What is someone to do if they are on the pill and it fails and they end up pregnant with a child they cant afford? Do you tell them tough luck or do you say abortion is the answer? If you provide an excuse for risky behavior and give an out for the pill and abortion in one case than you have to do so for other cases. Otherwise you are not consistent with your viewpoint. You are on the pill because you dont want kids or cant afford them but suddenly if it fails then you are left with a huge problem, no? Many people decide to get abortions when their contraception fails. If you take away the contraception people would act more responsibly and have a greater respect for life. You cannot have abortion without contraception. Abortions have skyrocketed since the pill came out. I see it as just like the increased concussions in pro football. Despite better technology in football gear, concussions go up because players feel they can take more risks. Likewise, contraception encourages people to take risks.

In addition, it is environmentally irresponsible to use birth control since the hormones in birth control pills get into the water supply and this creates fish with both male and female body parts. The hormones also get into the human water supply. Latex condoms do not biodegrade so they are very environmentally unfriendly. If you use contraception, dont ever lecture others on environmental or animals rights because you are a contributor to environmental degradation.

Right. Thanks for the responses. Obviously you’re not interesting in any kind of discourse. We’ve heard this rhetoric before, over and over and over again. It’s old.

Right. It seems you’re not interested in any kind of discourse. We’ve heard this rhetoric before, over and over and over again. It’s old. If you truly want the answers to what you’ve asked, do a search on the forums or on www.catholic.com and you’ll at least find a starting place. PM me if you need help searching; the forums can be hard to navigate for a newbie.

Incorrect.
Sex within marriage is twofold… both for the good of the spouses AND for procreation (not either/or… BOTH). Procreation is NOT the same thing as fertility. Procreation means that the marital embrace must always be open to God’s creation, regardless of fertility.

You’re right… NFP CAN be abused… and when it is it falls into many of the same morality questions as artificial birth control.
NFP is supposed to be used prayerfully… and it’s certainly not easy to avoid relations…

Please read the teachings of the faith before forming your opinion…
Here are a couple to the Catechism on this subject…

usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt3art7.shtml
usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.shtml

Hope that helps clear up your confusion. 🙂

Yep. I’m infertile and still open to as many children as God will bless me with. It’s the openness to life that God asks of us. Infertility, like NFP, is still being open to life, even if you never have a single child from it.

Oh BTW…if you don’t quit making rude comments about my infertility…your time on CAF will be short lived. 👍

Then why not use NFP instead of the pill, which is harmful to the body and an abortificacient if its the same thing?

The church isn’t against spacing children.

But again, lots of emotional reactions with no real discussion.

who says I am married ? 😃
So are you or aren’t you married? Have you formed your views on birth control as a single person only? Or have you formed your opinion that people shouldn’t bring more children into the world if they don’t have the money with your husband and because you have personally struggled financially?

If you are single, and have never been married, I find it quite insensitive for you to come into this thread and say some of the things you have said to the mothers here that have been open to life, made the sacrifices they have made to have their children and/or have struggled with infertility.

At least the OP was open to hearing people’s opinions and experiences. You seem to be here to justify the conclusion you’ve already made that birth control is ok to use and are purposely debating people, and hurting people in the process.

Thank you for the kind comments, thoughts, and personal experiences that you shared.

I was able to read and absorb everything, but the only post that I slightly disagreed with said something along the lines of, “after studying family history why is it that a family from the 1930s could afford 6-8 children on a man’s salary alone, but a couple with a two income household today claim to barely afford 1 child.”

Paraphrasing errors aside, I think it’s a bit disingenuous to say a family today making that claim is lying when compared to a family from the 30s. Having studied history, you notice that many families were larger, but this was before the advent of birth control. Also, more significant, it doesn’t take into account issues of inflation and the fact that a lot of larger families barely made ends meet.

(This isn’t to say that every middle class family is on birth control or that every middle class family is using money as an excuse to avoid having children. If we did that would be an oversimplification of the low birth rate.)

However, it was thought provoking, because it does make you wonder what necessities are really necessities and what is just a simple desire.

Lastly, a poster made mention over my inquiry being that I was not yet married and this may not even be an issue for me considering I may or may not be fertile.

Granted, but like an earlier poster stated, to me it’s important to ask these questions, and fully comprehension the church’s teachings now that I’m back, than the follow them blindly.

Hence, why I asked. 🙂

Yep, and also there’s the issue of what constitutes “getting by”…Personally I think that if a two-income family can’t afford one child, their expenses are out of control.

Very true. One of both partners might even be in serious credit card debt/loan debt/etc.
