Wow I really feel sorry for that Priest he only sought to tell people the truth. He was doing nothing morally wrong in the Catholic Church. In fact, that Bishop was encouraging sin by basically telling that Preist to lie? No?
I should have known this is what you would see. A priest is a spiritual father, he cannot be that as an open homosexual. It caused scandal and he was removed, rightfully so.

By the way, I have worked in youth mnistry in this area for twleve years or more, he did much damage to these kids. Some of which are still very confused because of him. It is praisworthy that he was removed.

He did not tell him to lie. He told him to not publically announce his sexual orientation. What was the point, other than to say “look at me.” I have yet yo hear a Priest announce from the pulpit that he likes brunettes. It has no place on his wisdom from the Gospel.

One of the keys to being a faithful Catholic is the notion of obedience. A Priest who willfully disobeys their Bishop can and should be reprimanded or removed.
Comparing sexuality and like for a hair color is not synonymous, but since we are on the subject I have known Preist to use their personal experience in relating the gospel during the homily. So is that not okay?

Oh so it’s the amount of injustice that determines its morality?
Not at all…it is Natural Law, Divine Revelation and Mother Church which determine morality. Notice I didn’t mention secular government or popular opinion.

As pointed out above, there are some circumstances when the death penalty may be acceptable.

Abortion, however, is ALWAYS wrong. There is a difference.

Catechism:
2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:
You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.75
God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.

You are moving the target in this conversation. Remember you originally commented that Catholics don’t remark as much about capital punishment as they do about abortion. Of course, the frequency of remarks will relate to the amount of injustice.

Catechism:
Actually I apologize I did say I would not reply to the subject of abortion and the death penalty and I did but I won’t break my word twice.

Not at all, but you didn’t ask me about the morality, you asked why the Church isn’t as vocal about the Dp relative to abortion. It is a simply matter of scale. In terms of sheer numbers, abortion is the greatest mortal threat to humanity by a large number.

The same reason the Church is so vocal about gay marriage is because it is at the forefront of challenging the Church.

Regarding the morality question, some posters have already addressed this by posting the relevant parts of the Catechsim.

Though, I am not sure why you ask anyway. You are picking and choosing your own beliefs, so why ask for justification from the Church? You don;t seem to care what the church says.

As someone asked, why do you need a Church when you have your own unique set of beliefs that you believe are correct?

If it is relevant, and does not cause scandal, sure.

No offense, but these are childish questions. You have been told what the Church teaches, and continue to say “but, but, but.”

I have no time to spend on “what-ifs” and random Priests who discuss hair color during homilies.

You are free to obey or disobey the Church;s teachings, and you alone are responsible for your sould after death. I personally wouldn’t waste time looking for loopholes and gotcha situations. In the end, you are going to have answer to God, and He is not some random internet poster you can trick with a logic-loop.

What damage did he do to kids?
Same thing many are damaged with, an ill-formed conscience which leads to erroneous judgment. I cannot go into ministry to guide people, especially young and open minds, with my opinions of truth. I must, and this priest did not, bring THE truth into the ministry; then a person can make a good judgment about it then decide, hopefully deciding the way of truth.

It is not easy to undo what a priest does. Even with proper documents and truth on my side, it always comes down to Fr. So & So said…and Deacon Gary is disregarded. You are the same way, you will take that idea you got from an errant priest over me and the proof which I show you from DR and NL and Magisterial teaching. Why is that you wonder? Because it validates the lifestyle that you want to live and to choose to live in truth is much harder. Here is the CCC about Erroneous Judgment. Go to the CCC and read the entire section on the conscience, it would be very beneficial.

IV. ERRONEOUS JUDGMENT

1790 A human being must always obey the certain judgment of his conscience. If he were deliberately to act against it, he would condemn himself. Yet it can happen that moral conscience remains in ignorance and makes erroneous judgments about acts to be performed or already committed.

1791 This ignorance can often be imputed to personal responsibility. This is the case when a man "takes little trouble to find out what is true and good, or when conscience is by degrees almost blinded through the habit of committing sin."59 In such cases, the person is culpable for the evil he commits.

1792 Ignorance of Christ and his Gospel, bad example given by others, enslavement to one’s passions, assertion of a mistaken notion of autonomy of conscience, rejection of the Church’s authority and her teaching, lack of conversion and of charity: these can be at the source of errors of judgment in moral conduct.

1793 If - on the contrary - the ignorance is invincible, or the moral subject is not responsible for his erroneous judgment, the evil committed by the person cannot be imputed to him. It remains no less an evil, a privation, a disorder. One must therefore work to correct the errors of moral conscience.

1794 A good and pure conscience is enlightened by true faith, for charity proceeds at the same time "from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith."60

Great still didn’t answer my question. What did this Priest do that damaged these kids?

Not at all, just a man of my word. Encouraging me to sin eh?
  1. She’s correct, and everyone can see that. You are clearly dodging because you are backed into a corner. So be it; there is no amount of logic you can think of to undo Christ’s teachings anyway.
  2. People have been encouraging you and all of us not to sin. You are the one glibly admitting you disagree. If you are content with that, there is no need to prove yourself to anyone.

No she is not correct. Yes everyone can “see” that because everyone here assumes they have the “truth” and I do not. I am a sinner in your eyes and not a true Catholic.

I am following my own word when I said I would not continue to discuss abortion and the death penalty on this thread anymore because it was dilatory to the topic at hand. By both of you egging me on is justifiably trying to break my word (ie. lie). Not a very Catholic thing to do.

I would be happy to discuss this issue further but just not in this thread and I would ask that you all respect that decision to remain on task and not make idled assumptions.

In absence of repentence and rejection of same sex sexual activity and same sex “marriage”, which seems to be the case, absolutely he is to be removed from parish leadership and catechetical positions.

The disturbing part is that the pastor has apparently been looking the other way indefinitely and is trying to blame the bishop. The pastor was clearly not doing his job.
Absolutely! He was causing scandal in the worst way. How can this priest justify having him in these ministries. I think he needs to be called on the carpet for his behavior.

No simply it is not the right decision. Although, I’m more disconcerned about all the hate that is thrown at our shared faith. Fighting intolerance with intolerance is simply not a good way to move forward.
What do you want the Church to do–affirm his sin? I am assuming by him getting married he is having a sexual relationship. By his being in a leadership position, he makes it look like the Church is giving approval to his lifestyle. That is not intolerance. Perhaps people should call his intolerant for not following the clearly laid out Church teachings.

Yes he is so clearly being intolerant. How dare he devote his time to God, the church, his parish, to its fellow parishioners! He clearly doesn’t see that he is suppose to live a celibate life if he has SSA. He can if he wishes be a member of the laity as long as he acknowledges his homosexuality is disordered and vows to remain celibate. If this causes him personal suffering… So what? Life is hard it wasn’t meant to be easy! He needs to suck it up after all that’s what he gets for being disordered.
