Non-religious arguments against Polyamory?

Another concern I have about these types of “poly” relationships (certainly polygamy) is the abuse of minors and/or prevalence of incest.
I would be very wary of introducing the abuse of minors into this, as it may do much more to undermine your credibility than empower your argument. After all, this is one of the reasons the courts in Europe and North America have found arguments against homosexuals adopting to be ridiculous; they may enjoy sexual acts with the same gender or several different people but there is nothing to prove they would want to do so with a minor any more than a monogamous heterosexual.

I assume if you are married you find your wife attractive in some regard? Does that automatically translate into you finding all women of every age attractive? That is what that accusation assumes, that because a person enjoys intimacy with however many adults they must automatically crave it with children too.

As for the incest…That may become a problem in several generations time if this every became a widely popular arrangement, or more specifically the arrangement of a single member of one sex with several partners of the opposite sex became widely practiced as it would limit reproduction. In the current stage though and as uncommon as it is at present? It would be negligible, and no more likely to occur than it is already for heterosexuals to take part in incest.
Them trying really hard to not be gay
Seconded. That’s why historically prior to LGBT acceptance heterosexual marriage and the priesthood were highly appealing covers so to speak for homosexual men.

If you had pledged your life to the service of God or fathered half a dozen children, how could anyone convincingly at the time insinuate you might not be heterosexual? I’m surprised this doesn’t occur to more people.

I haven’t read enough about this study yet to discover how effective or trustworthy the research methodology was but it is an interesting notion none the less; the idea that homophobic men are the ones more likely to be gay than anyone else. psychologytoday.com/blog/the-big-questions/201106/homophobic-men-most-aroused-gay-male-porn.

What’s more “masculine” in the traditional view than having as many children as possible?

No Catholic would ask why a Catholic priest is not attempting to find a woman to have a relationship, indeed the complete lack there would be taken as them following their vows.

Easy: Any human being with an ounce of dignity and respect, and who isn’t a sociopath, would be disgusted with polyamory.

My body isn’t a merry-go-round. Nor is it musical chairs. Or an amusement ride. Neither is it a blunt.

This and most of the other arguments against polyamory on this thread don’t really address the “poly” aspect. The concern noted above doesn’t work for me because the abuse of minors is already a problem. Most people I know of who are in or desire a poly relationship don’t want to have relationships with children but with like-minded adults. Do you know where I see the sexual abuse of minors most prevalent? In small communities, where there is a certain amount of isolation from outsiders, anyone who might upset the status quo. Many of the communities are religious, or have more churches than bars. But the abuse of women and children is deeply ingrained in the culture.

Also, most people are mentioning polygamy or polygyny, but no mention of polyandry.

Polyamory and polygamy are two different things.

Just thought I’d point that out, since there seems to be some confusion/conflating of the two on this thread.

Also I don’t understand these types of threads.

“Im against X, please give me reasons why I am against X so that I can debate people about it”.

Well, if you are already against something, shouldn’t you already have well thought out reasons for being against it?

It helps to have others’ (name removed by moderator)ut for arguments which support your position.

Some folks may know something is wrong, but not be able to articulate exactly why it’s wrong.
