I don’t know who this law is supposed to protect. What’s to stop a cis man from barging into a women’s room and claiming they were born female? Or me from following a man into a bathroom and giving his wife a dirty look? If confronted, I could just say I was born a man. There’s no way to check this stuff.

Given that, let’s leave restrooms alone. This doesn’t protect anyone, it’s just a reactionary law written by people who resent losing the gay rights war.

Perhaps some woman’s husband, or a woman with martial arts training? Unwanted sexual advancements can easily lead to violence, which is why I think this is one issue that is best handled at the lowest level, the people involved. It is better to simply leave and wait, if you are uncomfortable. If you think you should say something, say something. If a business wants a policy, post it. If you do not like being confronted, then keep it low key and no one will bother you. This issue is only an issue when someone makes it so, like some transgender person making a big scene out of their “rights” or, as in this case, the Republican legislature making an issue out of forcing business to ignore these same rights. Ironic that it is Republicans meddling in the local affairs of business owners.

The idea that this law will make bathrooms safer is based on false security. A true predator might be just as willing to dress as a woman to follow a girl, or might not need to if he preys on boys, or might be a woman who preys on girls. It is better to assume almost everyone is good, while training a child how to react if a dangerous person does attack them.

Either you’re talking about something different than what I’m thinking of or we have very different ideas of what is appropriate public restroom etiquette.

That was kind of the point of the rest of my post. If trans people just go in the restroom and mind their own business, how’s any one going to know unless this “woman” is 6’5", 250lbs, shirtless and has a goatee? But apparently not allowing him to use the ladies room is discrimination. I would call it common sense.

Its really quite silly in the year 2016, this is even an issue that requires lawmakers to get involved in.

I think the old Plain quote works good here “if you put make up on a pig, its still a pig”, no matter how much plastic surgery one has, they are still the gender listed on their birth certificate…impossible to change that.

It will only be enforced if and when an incident occurs, and/ or someone complains.

Same kind of thing with our states smoking ban in all businesses, even bars and clubs, of course, its only really enforced if and when anyone makes a complaint, which in bars and clubs, I doubt anyone would make such a complaint, so it largely goes unenforced.

There was a man, (and it’s interesting that the reporting calls him a ‘man’ not transgender or a woman even), that went into a women’s locker room in Seattle and took his shirt off in there in front of a swimming team of girls, and when he was asked to leave, he used as a defense that in Washington, transgender people can use locker room etc. they indentify with their gender: komonews.com/news/local/man-found-in-womens-locker-room-cites-new-transgender-bathroom-rule

Was he really transgender? Or were other intentions at play? Who knows. But this case presents questions about women and young people feeling comfortable in such an environment and the possible potential for these transgender ordinances to be abused by people with possible perverted intentions, although I’m not saying that was for sure the case in this Seattle news report.

Fake worldviews are being promoted heavily now. “Sexual minorities” exist. So what?

You don’t like your gender? Not my problem. We have “cross dressers,” “drag queens,” and those who have had surgical alterations done.

I was into the music scene in Detroit in 1979. So, I’m in a bar to photograph some punk rock bands. Then someone with nice legs and otherwise female looking, walks in. The guy sitting next to me, who I didn’t even think noticed me, said, “Hey buddy, you’re barking up the wrong tree.” I was like, “What?” He noticed me noticing this person and suggested an offensive way to check their sexual identity. I didn’t follow his advice and just forgot about the person who was surrounded by his/her crowd anyway.

And by the way, a guy wearing a see-through blouse with a bra still looks like a guy - and terrible.

North Carolina is the only thing that makes sense - not being an enabler.

It is true that the mental illness of believing you are something you are not has been around for milleina-that does not mean such delusions have to be catered to.In fact catering to such delusions does the sufferers more harm than good. In this case mutilation and ingestion of harmful chemicals.
