This is not my original intention.Nothing you have said can be verified.
This sounds like anti-SSPX propaganda piece.
The OP was confused and came here asking for advice.Nothing you have said can be verified.

She should talk to a Priest. Not cause scandal on a public forum. The OP was confused and came here asking for advice.
When someone talks about percieved abuses by priests in parishes that celebrate the Ordinary Form, do you jump in and say “this sounds like an anti-OF propaganda piece”? Do you have some specific reason to question the OP’s honesty?
Not all Catholic parishes are the same. A certain parish near me is very liberal and close thier eyes to any abuses. Nothing can be done but find another parish. I attend a parish that delivers a very reverant Novus Ordo Mass. They are very pro-life and conservative. There are a few “shadows” of the nonsense that started in the 70s, but I can live with that.Lately I am so confused about one question:
What’s the difference between traditional communities and Novus Ordo communities?
One SSPX priest told me that the problem with all Novus Ordo communities, is that they lost the spirit of sacrifice. Based on this comment, seems all Novus Ordo comunities are bad enough.
I do agree there is a crisis in current days regarding all the non-traditional communities in the world, like few religious wearing a habit, teaching new catechism, rare use of Latin. Etc…
But can we draw a conclusion that all Novus Ordo communities are bad enough today?
Sorry, but none of priests here have any idea about SSPX.She should talk to a Priest. Not cause scandal on a public forum.
Why was it so necessary to make it clear it was an SSPX?
Would you come on here airing your personal affairs with your Priest?
This thread smells fishy.
We very rarely can verify any claims made here. And we rarely know the full story. That has never stopped us from giving information or advice. She should talk to a Priest. Not cause scandal on a public forum.

We cannot verify any claims. We don’t know the whole story.
It lends to gossip and speculation.

Hard to tell on an internet forum. It’s best to assume the OP is genunine before jumping to conclusions. She should talk to a Priest. Not cause scandal on a public forum.

Perhaps you are right.Hard to tell on an internet forum. It’s best to assume the OP is genunine before jumping to conclusions.
Perhaps then you shouldn’t be sharing your whereabouts with a person who has confused you and led you into error.Dear Sally, I used to attend EFs in local parishes, and later I found SSPX here.
I never realized how dangerous the SSPX priest is until now. It’s like a nightmare for me. :bighanky:
I was once discouraged, frustrated and depressed. There was a time I no longer wanted to practice religion, I wanted to go apostacy. My soul was seriously wounded, and I didn’t know they could be so harmful.
I had a horrible experience when I stayed with SSPX. Luckily merciful God arranged the Novus Ordo community to save me, and I was healed there. But later SSPX priest condemned me of attending a “Novus Ordo” retreat.![]()
Thanks for your advice.Perhaps then you shouldn’t be sharing your whereabouts with a person who has confused you and led you into error.
This is a very good post. My experiences were almost identical except now I read the Baltimore Catechism most often.Well, speaking from someone who was an outsider looking in at the time, I never, ever knew the Mass was supposed to be participation in a sacrifice until after I went to my first TLM. I went to it and had a sense that it was vastly different from the OF masses I had attended up to that point. I did my homework and only then did I learn that the Mass was sacrificial, and it was this characteristic that had struck me so forcefully in the TLM which was seemingly absent in the OF. Beyond the veiled and token reference to “This our sacrifice and yours,” I would never have guessed, and it certainly wasn’t brought up in RCIA. Granted, this was early in my days as a Catholic, so…
In any event, I don’t think one needs to disparage the OF as a source of grace in order to think it’s not a very good source of enlightenment. So I guess I echo the sentiment of Leo13_Pius10 above.
Hm. I think it depends on what he means. If he means it’s not a very good catechism I’m inclined to believe him. The CCC is a long, ugly, tortured, ponderous and frankly unpleasant read. In places it is extraordinarily difficult to parse what the Church is actually trying to teach, in part because it has an annoying tendency to pluck whole paragraphs out of context from papal encyclicals and then scatter them around. I struggled for months trying to figure out what the Church’s teaching on the death penalty actually is. I’m not entirely confident I have it right now, but suffice to say the CCC was only a source of confusion and not at all of edification for me in this respect. I personally consult the Catechism of Pius X at least as often as I do the CCC.
If he means the contents of it are no good, well, that’s very questionable. The principles relayed in the Catechism are protected from error, even if its precise wording isn’t.
Then you’ll be chastising all those who talk about abuses at OF Masses, too., and “lliberal” priests. That can also cause scandal and speculation. She should talk to a Priest. Because in this particular situation, due to what the OP was told, it’s relevant. Why was it so necessary to make it clear it was an SSPX Priest?

A lot of traditionalist communities prefer the Roman Catechism or the Baltimore Cathechism to the CCC, second edition, and some use it exclusively. Now, there’s a huge problem right there. To say that it is “no good” to teach the Catechism that was given us by the Church itself – that’s a huge red flag.
I’d just like to point out that noone said there was anything wrong with using older versions instead of newer… rather it was the idea that the newest version of the catechism is “no good” which implies that it is either theologically or doctrinally unsound, which was being contended.A lot of traditionalist communities prefer the Roman Catechism or the Baltimore Cathechism to the CCC, second edition, and some use it exclusively.

Back off. I apologized on the thread and admitted my error to her in private. Then you’ll be chastising all those who talk about abuses at OF Masses, too., and “lliberal” priests. That can also cause scandal and speculation.

Thank you. Again, I have to stress I was pretty ignorant about the Mass (and most other things Catholic) at the time. But then, that probably doesn’t put me in a substantially different position than lots of Catholics, maybe even most of them. This is a very good post. My experiences were almost identical except now I read the Baltimore Catechism most often.
Yes, this is true. To put it the most charitable way I can manage, on those issues with respect to which the postconciliar Church is typically accused of error, I don’t think the present Catechism is coherent enough to be wrong about anything. If it is, in fact, in error, it is far from clear to me where or with respect to what.I’d just like to point out that noone said there was anything wrong with using older versions instead of newer… rather it was the idea that the newest version of the catechism is “no good” which implies that it is either theologically or doctrinally unsound, which was being contended.
I’m sorry. That you think that honesty = condescending.Back off. I apologized on the thread and admitted my error to her in private.
Go be condescending to someone else.
Puppy, please undersand that the phrase Novus Ordo refers to a form of the Mass. It is not a type of community or type of priest. The term “Novus Ordo” refers to the Mass, not to people. You are totally right, thanks.
The SSPX priest told me Novus Ordo community teaches modern catechism, so they are no good.
What? It was written at the command of the U.S. Bishops, expressed at the third council of Baltimore. That’s why it’s called the Baltimore Catechism.I have refrained from using the Baltimore Catechism as I have heard it has never been approved.
