Cancer is not some respiratory infection that can be caught like a cold or flu.

That is not a flaw. The analogy perfectly illustrates the flaw in calling any precaution ineffective just because it failed to protect a few people. It is a matter of probability. Your chance of getting lung cancer is greater if you smoke, and your chance of getting covid is greater if nobody wears masks.
